If he goes AFK, wouldn't that make it easy as hell to take him out?

He doesn't have an AI taking over like quitting does, so his units are just going to be sitting there. If you have AI enemies to worry about, just focus on him. If you REALLY don't care abouit stats and simply want to keep him from getting a win screen, you could have all of your teammates rush in and mess up his base and then quit.

I agree with what you're saying though, that's just douchebaggery.

On another note, if you want to keep this thread from getting locked like How's did, you might want to post some replays as "proof."

Usually when they go afk they have stupid things like SBs with full defences at almost all of their worlds making it take a longgggg time to kill them. Once i played a 1v1 where i got RA and had 2000 fleet supply and my enemy wouldnt quit. I left for supper which was about 40 mins and my fleet was still untouched. eventually I had to leave because i had to go. I really didnt want to leave because like P5 said it encourages them.

I was recently in a game where I destroyed kkrazys entire fleet with a suicde SB then his allies quit and he refused to so I had to destory all of his planets.

I think a three strikes rule is enough. If there are three reports of a player , then thats enough evidence. As it is KKrazy has had two reports of him going AFK when losing. So if he gets another report , he should be blacklisted.

Ummm.....there's something worth mentioning. If someone actually surrenders instead of quitting, his ships will do nothing. They won't move. He's just there to be killed. Could that be what you're seeing?

nope they even say on the chat. they dont want to quit because they lost, so they just go afk without quitting or surrendering.

It is really annoying and seriously what is the point of doing that?

I check the Diplomacy Screen. If its a cracked portrait , then its surrender. Also f5 brings up connection status to see if they are Disconnected from game.

All of blacklist thingy fails since this game allows smurf.

Indeed. Perhaps a form of punishment/rewards should be added to ICO

Not completely.

In a PUG Game , smurfs get BOOTED unless they reveal who they are.

If he changes his identity he has a long way to go to building a reputation with his new account. Truth be told , KKrazy had a "decent" reputation for being skilled enough. Skilled hosts would accept him into their games , but with a new 0 wins 0 loss account and the inability to reveal that he is Kkrazy , hes gonna get the boot from Skilled games and most PUG games.

All skilled games played nowadays on Sins , is with Recognised players who have built reputations over months. Its Reputation thats the only thing keeping good players honest and fair in the game , and is the only leverage for blacklisting dishonarable players

Ronin 56 wasted like 2 hour sof our time, and apparently he has done this in the past too.

Seriously first time i have to play sins in a month and the experience gets ruined by this. Fucking BS

The other time was the game immediately before that, and he didn't do it quite as badly. Just wouldn't answer when me (his only remaining teamate) and the entire other team were calling on him to toss it in. Once I finally got sick of it and quit, the game ended soon after.

It seemed like the two of you <Quit> the game at almost the exact same time.

Yeah, pretty much. Like I said, wasn't as bad. Was still kind of annoying, but not enough to warrent a post here. The second time was flat out deliberate, as I remember.

This *used to be the case.  But it has become very relaxed recently.  Now, some of the more accomplished players, and you know who I'm talking about, will form a Smurf-of-the-Day, or week as it were.  Not the alternate that we all know, but a reinvented one that they use as a clandestine surrogate.  I say surrogate because they inveitably whisper to one or the other Captains of a PUG in order to announce themselves.

This in effect allows them to "load" or "stack" the team they like by virtue of the fact they can at times avoid getting on a team they would otherwise get picked at the top of the drafting order, or at the very least get on a team that they prefer.  It has almost become a joke during pugs when you see records like 16-15-0 and such, on a previously "unkown" name, that they must be "so-and-so" <insert accomplished player name>.  When asked, a Captain that is drafting his first picks that instantly picks one of these "new smurfs" as to why or who he really is, they will usually say something like, "I don't have any idea, he just looks like a smurf".  So they either did know, or they are rolling the dice; either way it could screw up the balance of the teams.

I appreciate the sentiment that some accomplished skilled players may want to try a strat, or mess around during a game without bringing undue circumspection upon themselves by using a smurf.  But what is becoming an extrememley irritating habit is to see them log in via the friends prompt, and log right out, immediately followed by some virtually new "unkown" joining a PUG that has been waiting to form for lack of enough players, and then when asked who they are, they deny who they are, only later to find out they were who you thought they were because one of the Captains drafts them and brags later about who they are!  They obviously disclosed themselves to the Captain of their choice, but if you happen to be one of the opposing Captains trying to draft the best players for your team, it's not fair to the team or yourself when you can't clarify their identity.

It's litterally an imposition to get a whisper from <insert goofy ass smurf name> telling you, "Hey, I'm <insert accomplished skilled player> get me on your team (or in your game)".  It's also a pain in the ass if you already have teams selected and they get in the Game Chat Channel and say, "Boot that <insert derogatory elitist remark about [Player already on your team or in your game]>" and expect you to accomodate them just because "they are who they are"!

I have 3 alternates, they all have over approx 300 games with 200 wins.  I glady disclose to anyone who asks who I am, but usually, most people already know.  However, this sophmoric game of "Hide the Smurf" has become so obnoxious, I refuse to Captain a game anymore precisely because of this.

This is why, now, I say YOU MIGHT NEED TO FIND A NEW GAME IF:

  1. ALL SMURFS NEED TO GO BACK TO REVEALING WHO THEY ARE OR THE HOST SHOULD INSTANTLY BOOT THEM, OR THEY MIGHT NEED TO FIND A NEW GAME.
  2. ANY CAPTAIN THAT PICKS A "COVERT" SMURF SHOULD HAVE THEIR ASS HANDED TO THEM (either that or everyone on the opposing team go afk after SB'ing everything in sight) AND THEN THEY MIGHT NEED TO FIND A NEW GAME.
  3. IF YOU ARE SO SKILLED THAT YOU CAN WATCH RERUNS OF SG-1 ON HULU WHILE YOU PLAY SoSE YOU MIGHT NEED TO FIND A NEW GAME.
  4. IF YOU ARE SO BORED WITH SoSE THAT YOU TAKE PLEASURE FROM SMURFING AGAINST AN UNSUSPECTING TEAM OF PLAYERS OF LESSER SKILLS THAN YOURSELF, YOU PROBABLY NEED TO FIND A NEW GAME.
  5. IF YOU THINK YOU ARE SUCH A TREMENDOUS GAMING TALENT THAT YOU CAN SUSPEND ETHICAL CONSIDRATIONS OF FAIR PLAY AND GAMESMANSHIP, YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THAN AN ARROGANT FUCKWAD ELITIST SMURF, AND YOU CAN GO FIND A GAME TO PLAY....WITH YOURSELF!

Peace,

Proto

as much as I agree with you Proto right now there are so few players on ever that if hosts get enough for a 5v5 they are not gonna start kicking people if they are smurfs. Really its linked to a bigger problem that Sins MP has a small community.

I find smurfs just as annying as you do but there is no way to stop them currently unless IC gets rid of the smurfing option.

One of my pugs was smurfed last night, where I would have drafted a guy before he was picked for the other team if I had known who he was. This resulted in borked teams, though it wasn't a particularly bad game.

I partially agree with Top Vasari, part of the problem is that we just have a small community, so it's harder to kick smurfs out of the pug knowing that few folks are around.

One solution to this might be to set them up on Internet Relay Chat where people would have to register accounts with the IRC server (which also reveals people's account names via the /whois command) and login in order to join the pug channel, which is how it works for Unreal Tournament (1999) capture-the-flag pugs. The other form of enforcement is that if someone is caught smurfing, they can just get their IP banned from the pug channel (in various time increments). (I know, it's not going to happen for Sins, I'm just saying that a determined community can fix this problem.)

Problem with anything, is you cant get the community (MP that is) to commit to anything that would require them to grow up and accept responsibility. Those who smurf wrongly and often, do it to be a pain in the ass. They are not gonna want to change their ways, they will lose their ego trip.

Honestly the only way I can see this problem fixed is if IC add a feature under the players info that showed the the master account name.

I'm determined not to Captain anymore games.  Either that or start an Al-Queda of Sins clan that performs random acts of Star-Base -O-Rama afk terrorism om games with undeclared smrufs.

Do you have an IRC that we could use in mind Whip?

We could create a channel at irc.GameRadius.net and get a pugbot added to it.  Thing is, I tried to get this going a year ago and only a few people were interested in moving it to IRC.  I doubt such an attempt would be any more successful now.
