WindowBlinds 7 Beta Bug reports

WindowBlinds 7 Beta Bug reports

The new WindowBlinds beta has been released.  This build focuses on working with Windows 7 (and maintaining functionality in Vista and XP).

Known issues:

  • Compact start menus are right out.
  • Paint and Write titlebars are  . . not right.

Post anything that looks odd.  Make sure to give us your WB system information from the WB app, your OS (including 32 or 64 bit), and if it's hard to explain (or even if it isn't) a screenshot.

WindowBlinds v6.80.TBD (New BETA Build) 9/21/2009 - Coming MONDAY

  • Windows XP toolbar and animations settings are back under Settings.
  • Windows Vista sidebar skin settings are back under Settings.
  • Windows Explorer backgrounds tab has been added for Windows XP, Vista AND 7.
  • NEW! COOL! Textures tab added!
    • Allows users to apply a textured effect to your skins titlebar, taskbar and startmenu.
    • For skin authors, there are now three new sections in the skin to easily apply a texture to frames, taskbar or the startmenu without worrying about cutting it up and aligning it correctly.
    • Now skins can also include their own textured versions to show in the skin list.
  • Added support for enlarged menus on Windows Vista and Windows 7.
  • Some additional skin sections added for Vista / 7 including a new shadow section.
  • Fixed a bugs where the start button was clipping on multiple monitor Windows 7 boxes.
  • A feature that allows users to drag wallpapers to the large preview area and it will copy them into the wallpapers folder

Just a thought for the time being... if you use sks6 to edit the skin and remove the images by clicking the image name and scrolling all the way to the top and selecting no image defined... then the OS should default those images to original win 7 as with Vista. Found in Vista start menu buttons for the start menu.

Well I take that back - works ok here with no problems except for the background of one said image for when I click a taskbar program to change the properties or close/unpin such - got to still find out what default colors do as a new and almost final approach here to my skin

when i tried the wb7 on vista it seemed that new windows were not being skinned ie those that were opened for the first time, all that would be shown is a semi transparent border, with no close, minimise resize buttons etc.

I'm getting that too, but it's not every time. (I'm on Vista) When it does happen, I cant close the window unless I do it through task manager. Rightclicking on the taskbar button and trying to close it that way does not work.

it does close if you click where the close button should be, with me it seemed to to do it inly the first time i opened the window but its still a bug i think

My little bug report : Installed on Vista Prem 32bit every time I changed a skin it would go into the classic skin. If I reboot the skin would apply. When I opened a window there would be no title bar. Didn't know how to go back to WB6 because Impulse said WB6 was installed and WB7 was installed also so I did a system restore.

Well so far I've not noticed any issues with WB7 in Vista Home premium x64, all seems to be working as it should be with a variety of skins... even the wbconfig interface is complete, whereas in Win 7 the right side is cut off slightly.

What I have noticed with Butch123's Clear Black blind in Vista is that the shutdown.logoff/restart buttons are right at the bottom of the start panel next to the search bar: however, in Win 7, while the search bar appears normally, the button area to the right is blank/backed out. This occurs with most but not all WB's

Now while this may be the result of Vista having 3 buttons and Win 7 having just the shutdown button with a mouseover for other options, I'm not having the 'no buttons' issue with skins that place them slightly higher up the right-hand panel: eg, the button and mouseover appear as normal in Win 7 when using Vampothika's Mysteria Vista, which displays these buttons slightly higher up the panel in Vista.

To me, it's like the buttons in Win 7 are being relocated on the panel and cannot appear as normal, so I'm wondering if it's also a resolution thing, particularly if one is using a regular taskbar instead of the 'superbar', and have Workshelf docked above the regular taskbar.  Currently I'm running at 1680 x 1050 on a 22" monitor, if that makes any difference.

I will mess around with the stteings a bit to see if I can answer these questions myself, but hopefully my thoughts (being a non-skinner) are helpful in resolving the issue for all.

:)

Are there plans to make the tabs and toolbars skinnable for IE8?

FYI, I'm using the beta on Vista and have no issues at all.

Edit: I spoke too soon. The IE Tab Close Button is not skinning.

The default close button bug is there with IE7 too

It seems that the scrollbar arrow states are mixed up when viewed on the start panel (activated all programs list) the normal state is using the disabled state image. It's correct everywhere else.

Edit: Vista Home Premium OS

Is there any procedure to easily roll back to WB 6.4.x, or do I have to go the uninstall/reinstall route?

This.

IE 7 favorites menu background and items not being skinned

This may be covered already, but I have no titlebar.

It looks like a bad skin load. Did reapplying fix it?

Are other skins ok?

I have this issue too. It is a random thing with me, and seems to happen most with Firefox, and happens with every skin I try. I have tried reapplying the skins, but it's hard to tell if it helps or not, since this is such a random occurrance.

Usually, if the titlebar is gone, I just close whichever application is giving me the problem and re-open it, then it's fine. A bit annoying, though.

Exactly.

I get this with FF, skinstudio, Windowblinds config, and photoshop (randomly).

Oh, and I forgot to mention that this happens on two of my Vista machines. One is 32-bit, one is 64-bit.

The no titlebar issue at random on some apps is known (incorrect files installed), and will be resolved with a new beta build that I suspect will show up early next week.

It seems as though WB7 does not want to fully apply a skin at times.

I was trying to apply a new skin, but it would skin one window, and not another; it forgot to skin the taskbar; then after trying to apply it about 5 or 6 times, it finally took.

Yeah several apps had to be closed and opened to become skinned.

On several occasions today while testing some skins Windows explorer crashes when double sizing the taskbar. Not when making it double sized but when reducing it back to normal size. This only happens when Internet Explorer 8 is running. If no windows are open this does not happen.

Skip that, it was just a coincidence that it happened 3 times in a row. It crashes for any old reason I suppose. Loading Aero and then reloading a skin corrects any unskinned parts that go classic upon explorer crashing.

What are the changes in the newer version that I spotted on Impulse today?

FYI.. Skinstudio 6 works like a charm on Win 7. Actually, I think it runs smoother than on Vista.

No noticable differences with the latest update either. It's running smoooooth.

FYI- I just installed W7 on a newly built computer. I began with an ATI Radeon graphics card. With that card, the start button worked perfectly.

Then once I was all set up, I put my NVidia (MSI) graphics card in. Now I have problems with the start button being cut off on the right side, as has been mentioned.

Just thought I'd point out that this could possibly be an incompatibility with different types of video cards.

Also, it seems like the explorer background bitmaps aren't applying in W7. This means that the "glassiness" of some skins isn't so glassy. :(

Oh, and I do have "enable transparency" checked in my Windows display settings. ;)

Yeah, I figure it'll be fixed. Just thought I'd mention it, though. :)
