I saw the Pressurized DX Theme from Redneckdude/PDJ and wanted to make a blind from it. I just knew the graphics would make a great start menu. You can get it here.
The gauge and the knob on the start menu are animated, and at some point on this project, I'm going to try my hand at animated steam...wish me luck. 
You've definitely got an eye for detail. #3 is closest to the real thing. And I agree with Doc......

Any progress? I'm eager to try this one [and I want ALL the substyles more than the base skin ;)](and show it to everyone who say creative skinning is dead. :))
I have all the rusty Vista parts in, but I'm sure there are things that need tweaking. 
Work on this will be delayed for a week or two because I am moving to a new place on the 1st. It's amazing how much junk you accumulate in just a few years.
Zu, if you would like me to send you what I have so far, so you can test it, I'd be happy to. It's still just for Vista so far. After I move, I will start the XP substyles.

Just thought I'd update everyone....
We have moved in to our new place, and are unpacking everything. You never know how much stuff you have until you have to move it all. 
I'll get back to work on this soon, right now, there is just too much to do! I need to fix some errors that were found on it (thank you to the ones who tested it up to this point), then I can begin on the XP substyles. Hopefully that will not take too long.

One thing that came to mind after reviewing the last screenshot...
Why not make the startbutton an animated steam gauge that flickers on midlevel as you hover over it, and hit max when clicking?
