Does anyone use Win7RC 64bit as their primary OS?

I used it for the beta but went back to Vista64 last month. I got the RC but have not had time to reinstall it all again. For what it is worth, I did not have many big issues during the beta trials. I can only assume it got better.

I am using the 64-bit version here as a primary OS right now Mistralok, and am not having any real issues at all, works great!

I use it as my primary OS but that is only because I really have nothing to lose if my computer crashes.......I have factory restored my computer so many times.....I learn about computers by screwing around with things I don't know about and that usually leads to a crash. But hey, I have learned a lot.

Anyway, Win7 64 bit is very stable and I haven't encountered many problems at all. I would say only use a RC as your primary OS if you honestly don't have anything to lose.

I use it.   I needed a 64-bit OS so I can play Elemental: War of Magic on max settings, and I didn't want vista.  So I installed the beta as my 2nd OS.   Since then, I've decided 7 is an upgrade, and sometime in the upcoming month I'm going to be removing my XP partitition so I can install the win 7 RC over it

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I had pretty much made up my mind before I started this thread, but getting the thumbs up from other members of the Stardock family is comforting. I tend to put more weight behind your opinions than those of the general public.

@LightStar: I visited your website for the first time; very nice. I'll check back from time to time to see what you do with Win7.

Well I bought my computer and came with Vista, after 2 weeks I "upgraded" to XP.. it stayed that way until the first beta of Windows 7, I downloaded the 64 bit version and installed in a small partition.

Boy!, I must say I'm impressed its as fast as XP (if not faster) and slick looking.. I have Demigod Installed and UT III, both work like a charm..

I'll buy it the minute it goes for sale.. (ok I've got Ubuntu9.04  too and would use it for DG instead of W7 if the game worked on linux).. Yeah I know... No one asked about the linux thing.. ha ha

I do on both my laptop and my main box.  I have no idea if I really feel like paying for it, but I do love it!

I have W7 RC x86 on my lapto and W7 RC x64 on my main computer and everything is working very well.

I can't upgrade my main system until DeskScapes, WindowBlinds, and IconPackager are released for Windows 7. 

ObjectDock, Fences, and LogonVista work, so that's a start. 

Only using Win 7 x64 as a secondary OS at present, due to WB, IP and Descapes not working in there yet... but Winstep Xtreme works well, as does CursopFX, Fences, ObejectDock and Logonstudio Vista.

Another reason it's not my primary OS is that my AverMedia TV and SoundBlaster X-Fi apps aren't yet compatible in Win 7, when they are, however, I will switch to Win 7 x64 permanently.

Other than that, Win 7 x64 is stable, reliable and faster than Vista x64, so for me it's a definite when it goes gold.... cos by then I'm sure these apps will be working by then.  It's only early days yet, and the 3rd party devs will catch up to make this the best edition of Windows ever.

I  am running Windows 7 as my main OS. On my partition I am running vista, but actually I needed to run Windows 7 with Virtual Machines so that I can now emulate Winsows XP which gives me the chance of updating and repairing all the windowblinds I have made for winsdows XP which is what I am doing at this time at my Deviant Art site. windows 7 is a fantastic new OS. Looking forward to the RTM....

I use W7RC x64 as only O/S on both my laptop and desktop now. My laptop only has 3 GB RAM useable because of an older Intel chipset but even with that W7 runs great. I have had no problems with it what so ever except having to disable or uninstall several Stardock programs that aren't Win7 friendly yet. Unfortunately because of how the Stardock stuff plugs into the O/S it has been the only software I have had to stop using. 

In addition I am a desktop O/S architect for a corporation of 65,000 desktops and we are now officially beginning our deployment planning and testing of Windows 7. Our current target is to replace 30,000 desktops with new hardware running Windows 7 64-bit and we intend to start before the end of the year.

To give it an historical perspective, I feel that Windows 7 is faster than Vista by a small but noticeable amount and that it is more noticeable the closer to minimum requirements you get. In addition the version in and of itself is as stable or more so than XP SP-2. Which was the best Microsoft O/S version and subversion over all until Win7.

today install this OS, with hope make it primary OS. but, drivers for ati video and system doesnt work(but when i downloaded updates for this driver, in specification was windows 7 too), don't work drivers for my samsung printer (that works good with vista64 bit) even don't start installation program of this driver. ehhh, now i've got again reinstall my OS. to vista 64 bit.

I am using Win 7 RC as my primary OS and love it.

I have found it to be fast on boot up & shut down compared to Vista.

WB, Ip & deskscape has issues but I am willing to sacriface those apps.

ObjectDock & Fences works nicley, miss WB tho!

Winstep xtreme works great so I am using it for now.  

I'm using Win 7 RC1 64bit as my main O/S on my laptop. Very stable. No compatibility issues except for King's Bounty - The Legend T_T

Quick question:  I'm running W7 RC 32bit.  Tried installing the 64bit but program sez I cant.  Do I have to format drive before installing the 64 bit?  I know all my hardware is 64 bit compatiable.

You can't upgrade an existing 32-bit install to 64-bit. You have to do a fresh install to get 64-bit. I would recommend a reformat because not only are there major file differences in the Windows folders, but Program Files is for 64-bit programs and Program Files (x86) is for 32-bit. So these changes will really confuse thing even if you try to leave 32-bit on and install 64-bit into new folders.

Which one(s)? Does the card not work at all? I have a Soundblaster card also, and no sound is a dealbreaker.

I have sound as Creative have done beta driivers for Win 7 RC... the recording, editing and conversions apps are not compatible as yet. At this time only the drivers are available, with no ETA  posted regarding the associated Creative apps.  However, the sound is great, and through my X-Fi Fatality Xtreme Pro, Win 7's WMP edition sounds considerably better than all its predecessors.
