Knowing - new movie 2009

*SPOILERS ALERT*
and sorry for any mistakes

Hi all
K so today (that is after a great disapointment yesturday with the new Star Trek movie)
I watched the new "Knowing" movie, even though during the first about 40 minuts of the movie I though
its just yet enother horror movie that based on the idea of "white noice" and messeges from the after life,
later on I noticed that there is much more about it then some cheap philosophy.
The movie starts with a creepy looking girl that have a tendancy to act and do creepy things
with the plot following a sientist who found a wierd piece of paper full of numbers, which later on
I found out that those numbers were some sort of dates, predictions of distasters.
At first the main cheracter in the movie assumes his role is to stop the predictions from accuring
and by doing so, saving people, but later on we can see that it is in fact impossible as even though
we have a date and a place, we cant really know what will happen, and therfore to stop it from happaning.
this leads us to the last date on this piece of paper, which, all the way until almost the end is a mistery
but eventualy we find out that it is armageddon day, a day you cant do anything to avoid, this is
where the movie twists from horror like plot to si-fi where we find out that a sun flare is about hit earth
and turining earth into a flaming hell, burning everyone and everything.

Yet our main cherater dosnt loose hope  and he fights to save himself, his child, some freands, and fammily
but eventualy we as watchers know that there is no escape, while by that time I already accepted the
faith of everyone in this movie, a new twist comes and philosophy makes it way to the front page
as looks like our planet is beein watched and protected by some sort of an angelic like glowing creaturs,
by the end of the movie those creatures gather some selected people, among them is the child of
the main cheracter, and while I hoped for the best, looks like there is price for anything
and even though his child was selected, he himself was not, and was doomed to die.
Accepting this we move to the last 10 minuts of the movie, where we see how the world is in chaos
and then how everyone die, but here come another welcomed twist, by the time i was all sad
watching everyone die, and looking on a sad end, the movie spent 1 last minute to give me hope
and to fill my hear with a joy of a good end, when they show us how those alien creatures
drop the chosen people on an unknown planet, something that remind me the lost eden from the bible
with field of green grass and tress and amazingly beautiful sky, a new life, new hope for humanity.
Indeed it was an amazing end, the movie combined in itself a philosophy about the origins of religion
and mystesism, which I really liked, overall this is an amazing movie.

Ill rate it 5 out of 5, with great graphics, amazing twists in the plot, very good acting
well writen plot, feels like some very good minds were behind it. Ill recommend it for everyone.

I personally loved the new Star Trek Movie.

Seems like a strange movie here though, not my type, I don't know what makes it a ton better than Star Trek though.

I never said it is better, it is DIFFERENT that is all
while as someone who never was fammiliar with the Star Trek history I found the movie to be very confusing
While with "knowing" its a stand alone movie, its a whole different idea
and you dont have to know anything at all to undarstand this movie, and to follow its plot
while yet still it manages to bring out the best out of the simplest things.

I've only watch like 3 episodes of Star Trek and one other movie. I didn't find it hard to follow at all. Bad guys come from the future all pissed off thinking spock blew his planet up. So he blows up vulcan and yadda yadda.

I would like to say that Knowing is one of the worst movies I have seen ever. Also The Signal rocks and so does the new Star Trek.

They stole the major plot twist from some pidgeons in bolt, when the major plot twist happens it loses alll credulity and basically becomes a farce

It's easy to answer! Nick Cage isn't that great most of the time in his movies. Plays the same characters in almost all movies. The ending along with other parts mid to end make no sense and aren't even a twist. I wondered if writers must've given up after a bit since it seemed thrown together. The antagonists weren't fleshed out and the movie just dragged on and on. It might be better as a book imo.

Interesting points it did bring up were about fate being decided and you having no say in the matter. It's not a fresh idea just hasn't been widely used in quite awhile. The ending was only helpful in pointing out who is set in their ways. Many people of faith (Christians) will tend to think it has a biblical ending or the like. It's open to interpretation and it could be described as one of many things without having a religous connoatation.

Your statement of not following and understanding the new Star Trek movie surprises me. It's the easily the most open Star Trek to people of any background without prior knowledge of the timeline nor any background information or cult following. The movie proves itself in the box office alone. It was well made all around for the most part without falling into a hole bringing you up to date with background info or the like. People like it because they felt they got their money out of it no more or less (that's all we want in a movie).

If this was a Doom comparison or some of the others I could understand somewhat but cannot in this case.

Knowing was one of the worst movies I have watched too.

I hate movies that suddenly turn into religious christian preachings. The ending was totally random and a cheap way to end the movie. It was really just a "WTF is this?" ending. There was no mentions of *SPOILER* angels and stuff till the very end (if i remember correctly).

Maybe the writers ran out of time and decided, "well angels will just come down, take a few people and leave the rest to die" What a ending.

I must disagree, when I watch a movie I always loot ak it from the creativity prospective
and "Knowing" got a very uniq stile, while it combine mistery, horror, and sci-fi
it also manages to relate something as religion to scieance whcih I think is a very difficult thing to do
and by showing us an "angle like" alien creatures, makes one rethink about the origins of the bible

In fact now that I think about it, I think I just found yet another sub idea behind the main plot
which focuses on the idea the everything is pre writen and that there is no feauture and we just live
as we are programmed, so that if we are programmed to die tommorow, then we cant do anything about it.
The movie also shows that even the greatest fear of death may be infact wrong, and that death is not the end,
and not something people should be afraid of, yet the movie shows it in such a delicat way
that I cant say that this movie got anything to do with religion.

Overall this movie opens once mind for a greath brainstorming ideas, and I think it is really awesome
as most movies just focus on one plot with a start and an end, yet with this movie we not just watching
a movie, it also forces us to think about things beyounf the plot, and apply them to the movie
and then to see a whole different picture of what is happening in the plot.
In simple words, the movie forces you to apply different collors to differen pictures
so that you will see them in many diefferen prospectives, and all the twists in the plot
are just there to give you more prospectivs about more topics.

those kind of movies are very rear and I really recommend to watch it
maybe if you didnt like the movie it is mainly due the fact that you are used to
a single straight plot that follow a straight line from the beginning to the end.
and when you see something like the plot of this movie, you may find it very confusing
as it is like the plot is out of focus.

Firstly the combination of Horror and Sci-Fi or any derivitave of the two is not unique at all unless you have been sealed in an underground vault for the past 40 years. Also can you explain what you mean by mystery in this movie. There is no mystery in it; Within the first 10 minutes, the main character figures out that something really really bad is going to happen to the earth, a plot point that is divulged from its trailers. It then heads that down that root like a tank. It only major event in the plot is the whole alien suprise twist, which is basically a cope out by the writers and director because they have no ideas about where to go in the story from there. Any sugggestions about aliens being angels seems to be an afterthought and tacked on to try and give the movie credulence, which fails horribly.

This is actually one of many themes, In a parrallel universe this film actually concentrates on some of them removes the rest(therby actually having focus), avoids the aliens and becomes a good movie, loved by all. this is not that universe.

Short Rebuttal - NO. Long argument - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

main character and everything on the planet dies, it is definitely the end for them. Only reason the children and fluffy animals survive is a combination of the ridiculous alien subplot and the fact that killing children off in movies gives them a higher age rating, which means less profits.

I'm not even sure to begin with this, practically all movies and books have references/make you think 'bout things outside the plot, just a few of the top of my head. 1981, The Lord Of The Rings, Gattaca, Equilibrium, Matrix and Serenity. This movie does have a single straight plot, its just so absurd that it does not fit within it's serious setting at all. It tries to do to many things at once - You are right the plot has no focus.

Quick recap:

- Too many sub-plots and themes led the movie to have no real focus and direction

- Alien twist shows how shallow the movie is.

- Direction of the plot is pretty predictable (part from silly alien addition).

*sigh*
it is really sad that so many of you see this movie in such a negative way
but, i was a VIP member of a cinema club + reviwer, and there was a reason why i was accepted
i beliave it due to a talent i have to see more in a movie then just pictures, many told me before
that i see movies much deeper and that i have a talent to make the most boring film into top ranked film
only by using colorfull terms when reviewing it. there was a reason for that, and many people followed my advice
before choosing a movie to watch and about 90% of them came back to be with positive feedbacks.
maybe it was because i just pointed them towards what they should look at during the movie

Ok, maybe you right and i enjoyed this movie only due to my abstract view
and its really sad so many of you look at this movie from such a shallow prospective.

Are you honestly saying that you know better than anyone else here because your in some kind of club? You are the one that brought it up. Please speak to us about being open minded and creative when you can't look at the other side of the coin yourself. I'm sure you can tell us that Subway is better than Quizno's based on the fact that you have a Subway club card. We'll take your word for it.
