By the way, what I am wondering. Does the distance within the USA effect speed as much as it would from my country to another europese country at the same distance?

When I connect to a server in Russia I only get about 25% of my normal speed. That is roughly the distance from New York to Los Angeles. If you'd do the test from NY to LA would you also only get 25% of your speed?

That's about bottom end for my download speeds (I've run the test maybe 20 times since this thread started), but the upload is about 'normal' for my connection and the ping is a bit better than the server Speedtest recommends that I test.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if crossing national boundaries took a good chunk out of a connection and I'd be very surprised if state boundaries inside the U.S. had any effect at all. The net lobby here has been very good so far at keeping state regulators 'in their place' (although we do have steadily more collection of local sales taxes for Internet sales).

I seem to get preety consistent results with my speedtest.

Seeing all this sure gives me second thoughts on wanting to pay my next internet cable bill lol

Just got a free download speed increase from Rogers.  

No increase in upload though. >:(

there is about 4 people here with worse speeds.

and when I am actually downloading something I rarely get over 42 kb/s!!!

would like a better ping but i can live with the upload and download speed, but not economically viable for me to get a better connection without moving my current isp is very price worthy.

this is my third isp ive tried while living in present location in göteborg in sweden, its pretty decent but my second was about as good cant get their best services becuse i live wrong place, maybe when they extend their network i can get the really nice stuff.

In the local hospital Straight into a 10 Gigabit backbone, hence the awesome ping!!

But it's a guest account so they limited the speeds to 22ish mbit apparantly.

The funny thing about this speed is that Verizon doesn't even offer FiOS this slow anymore.  The slowest I believe is 10.0 Mbps download, instead of 5.0 Mbps like mine.

I thought my connection was good.  I can't believe the speeds some of you are showing.  I drool with envy!

It's all relative. Not long ago I was downloading with cable at a whopping 120 kb/s, and before that ISDN blew my mind, and I'm sure we'll get lots of posts after this one by someone that had even slower internet. My internet is almost 100x faster now, yet my life isn't 100x better, so it's all good

I hear you. my first "high speed" experience was a DSL connection, almost 10 years ago now.  I think it was 512Kb down and 128 Kb up and it was blazing!
