Greetings From Singapore

I've just purchased Demigod from the Demigod website, and I'm obviously new.

Any asian players out there please give me a shout. :)

I've tried to connect online a few times (both for online skirmish and pantheon), but was not successful - at best I get a "trying to connect" screen and end up being kicked off. Do I need to disable my firewall to play online ?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I managed to download the new patch 1.1 just before going to work - haven't tried it out though.

Apparently the favor was reset with the new patch - I have to admit I didn't quite see that one coming. :P

ADDED : It's good to see Frogboy's confirmation that the favor reset is a one-off - http://forums.demigodthegame.com/357324

Patch 1.1 seems to be working quite smoothly, from the 2 games I tried yesterday evening -sorry for the disconnect for the second game though :(

The in-game chat box seems overly large though.

New patch seems pretty ok but it seems that random dc from games seems to have increased.  But then it is seldom that we have 4v4 games and the concede behavior is wierd.

I have to confess that I was quite frustrated after being disconnected. I thought we had a good game going :) I relogged, sent Sy a message to tell him that I got disconnected, and then took a break.

Yeah the random crashes have spoilt games for everyone. For me, it was a clean CTD, without so much as an error message.

I tried a couple more games last evening, and fortunately, there were no disconnects. I think the game is starting to reach to point where it should have been on release. :P It's quite playable now. :)

By the way, does anyone know of a link to describe in detail how the "option" works ?

Yeah it's certainly a lot better than before. What do you mean by how the "option" works?

EDIT: Just tried a 5v5 today. It works! It was a mixture of Singaporean and Australian players. I have to say, this is a significant milestone in our Demigod gaming experience. Pity two guys dropped half way (I suspect CTDs) and the victim team soon conceded. It was epic good fun while it lasted though.

If we can have more 5v5s I'd die with no regrets (and respawn for seconds). B)

I guess the main question I have about concede is whether you still get the 40 favor points as participant, if you concede.

ADDED : Wow. I would love a 5v5 :) Incidentally, I do think that the AI has improved. I tried a single game on nightmare mode (nightmare AI opponents and nightmare AI allies) - and the AI opponents actually started using flag locks. Quite impressive. :)

Let's all try to make our games 5v5 from now on. It's time to open all slots! Let the games finally begin!

Well, we'll see how it goes.

One issue I can foresee is that some players don't like to play with what they perceive to be a "slow" ping. I personally just make the best of the situation in any case, but I have been (quite rudely) told to quit Panthenon games because someone didn't like my ping rate.

Told to quit Pantheon games? Custom games I can understand, but for that to happen on Pantheon games is over the edge. One thing's for sure, players didn't like "slow" pings since the dawn of high speed internet gaming. It's nothing new, and so isn't rude players. We can just organise our own games and play with people we know online.

EDIT: Just had 2 more games yesterday, first one 5v5, next one 4v4. Both had players dropping out. It's definitely an issue. The first one even ended with everyone crashing out. I forgot to submit the log though. Here's waiting for 1.2

Missed you guys yesterday evening. Arrgh. (I was in the middle of a panthenon game by the time you started, I think).

I think more than one of us spammed you with messages using the UDP-ish in-game chat. :P

We needed one more guy for a 5v5 and with you in it I think it would have worked.

Yeah I agree with Evil_Gia. I was skeptical at first about XFire but after using it, I'm sold. Get on XFire and we'll be able to talk to you in and out of game.

Hi all,

Just dropping a note that I will be taking an extended break from Demigod (trying out another game now). I might pop back in when the new demigods are in. :)

That sounds like a long break indeed. What happened yesterday anyway? We organised a chat on XFire and were all ready, then you failed to show up in the game. We kicked players repeatedly to save a slot for you until we couldn't wait anymore... :(

Couldn't resist checking back (so quickly) for any news of the new Demigods. :P

Oh, I was in a panthenon game yesterday - although my ally was quite rude, I didn't think it was polite to just abandon him/her midway and run off to join you guys (tempted as I was to do so). And I couldn't figure out how to get the Xfire chat box on screen and play DG at the same time - so it was difficult for me to reply midway through the game. :P

Personally, I think I just need a break from Demigod - it was getting a bit of too much of the same thing (challenging as it is).

All the best till our paths cross again :)

It's Scroll Lock + X to enable XFire mode from in-game.

Alright then, be sure to pop in again after 1.2! That's when replays will be in. :)

I, myself don't feel like I'm getting the same thing at all. There're still lots of things to experiment with, and playing with and against good players, every game is different. I think you've spent too much time playing with strangers and should continue to play 5v5 with us some time. It's definitely a different game altogether.

I just want to apologise to phreakstorm and Namieamuro777 yesterday if my attitude seemed brash and domineering. I was literally in the zone yesterday (playing against Evil_Gia, I had to be). It was in the heat of things and being polite seemed so far away at that time.

It was a great game nevertheless. One of the few to be completed from start to finish without anyone dropping. My thanks to the other team for sticking it out.

Nice to see another player from our side of the globe :P

If you're so inclined, you can join us in using XFire.

its really too bad, i really love demigod more than dota and newerth

the downfall is that its p2p, having high upload speed is very expensive, asians cant play with anyone

in newerth/battlenet/garena you can get around 200-300ms even if the players are mixed asia and eu/us players but with p2p 500-700ms

wish you could develop a client server connectivity for demigod, do not forget 70% of the community in dota are asians

I think we can get by playing with JP/KR/NZ/HK and sometimes the odd US East. The problem is that lots of players do not know that <350ms ping is fine in Demigod due to their engine. Can't blame them really, this wasn't a publicised feature at all.

We simply need more asians who can see past the initial need to only play with fellow countrymen. Once we have that critical mass, it'll be happy times for all. :)
