Which is The Best race?

Which is The Best race?

OK, i expect to pick up a LOT of flak for this, BUT i will freely admit that i prefer the TEC to the other races (I rarely play as Vasaari and i have never even finished a game as Advent)

I favour the TEC because i like the look and feel of their ships, i think their capital ships are the best and i really love the strong economy you can build up quite easily (especially with the Trade Facilities on the Argonev, 6.5 credits per second each, great!), the strong economy and the reduce ship build time reseach allows you to rapidly and cheaply replace losses, and the ships themselves are great.

also...there is just something...satisfying...about winning games as TEC. as if you'd saved the human race from annihilation.

BUT, what race is your favourite, and most importantly, WHY???

To clear up the advent research speed, a 25% reduction is a 33% speed increase. Say all research is 100 seconds for simplicity. For advent, it is 75 seconds.

When the TECH finishes a research, advent has finished 1+1/3 research. They've both elapsed 100 seconds. For the advent, that is 1+1/3, or 75+25 (25 is 1/3 of 75, 1/3rd into their next research). While the TECh only have 1.00 in research.

going by reduction amount is a bit misleading, because the advent are indeed 33% into finishing the next research precisely when the other two races have finished their first one, when you exclude the time it takes to research that research.

When I play, I usually randomize my faction selection as each race has its own unique perks, pros, and cons. As a result, the game is always fresh and the challenges are always interesting. However, admittedly, I usually find myself enjoying the game more with the Vasari (you can tell by the avatar, lol): their frigates are generally strong and durable (plus sleek), their cruisers enter the fray with a diverse set of useful abilities. And their capital ships? I mean, come on: if any faction's ships are designed to win battles, the Vasari cap ships - with their nanotech abilities that support their own forces and debilitate enemy forces - are king in this field, in my opinion. And an upgrade Orkulus can take down an equally upgraded Argonev or Transcencia.

Either way, the developers did a good job with the races and balancing them out. Kudos to them for that.

best race-

the ones in my mod, these being the 'Legion of Vraxedes' and the 'Empire of Taun'Shas'

Legion's Mars Legacy Titan- consumes 500 fleet supply but can destroy 10 fully upgraded starbases, 30 capital ships, 400 frigates/cruisers, and bomb a planet to boot all without losing its shields; anyone who says that's overpowered is probably right, except for the fact that at full fleet research capacity this ship will take up an entire 4th of your fleet supply, plus it costs more than 2 Novalith/Kostura Cannons/Deliverance Engines, adding to that is the fact that it's a tier 8 research subject that costs the same as the other races superweapons.

Check my post on the mod (The Legions Mod) (it will not be ready for some time yet), it offers some backstory, and I will be updating it to feature the new stuff for the existing races and the new races' gear.

I love playing as the Vasari. I find it so fun to be able to manipulate entire enemy fleets in order to have my fleet come out on top.

You get Subverters to freeze any non-cap ship in it's tracks; Overseers to prevent the enemy from reinforcing the fleet you're crushing; Assailants to snipe cap ships (or anything else, for that matter); Devastators and Desolators for a fun chain-reaction (Volatile nanites+Phase Missle Swarm = POPCORN FLEET!!)...

And if things get too dicey, you can always melt back into the network of Phase Nodes to strike from a different angle...

For me it's Random, I don't mind playing with any race.

Although the Advent fits my playstyle the most -> Turtling :D (I'm playing at this moment only offline though)

At the start of the game I just try to get some 6-8 planets, and then build the best defence I can.

At this moment playing against 9 Hard AI's. So far, best fight was, when 3 AI's attacked me at once. ("Meteor strike is made of pure win").

Hmm....the best race? My gut says Advent, only because of the ungodly combo of Illums + Repulse.

The vasari and advent are definatly the best races... due to the vasari's ablity to easily pwn the neutrals, their uber starbase, and space egg... and the advent have their illums... and -60% devlopment cost from their capital ship...

But the TEC have my heart, in a long game even game... if you can survive the illum rush and can keep your fair share of neutrals... ho, man, their end game is just... beautiful.

Definately Advent as favourite

Very nice cap ships and fleet synergies (bubbleball ftw) as well as mostly nicely looking ships (TEC vessels are flying bricks -_-)

And besides looking at the lore they seem to be the only race that is in a win situation... TEC is in a 2-front war getting killed Vasari are stalled by the TEC and a unknown menace is hunting them.

Wouldn't that menace that's hunting the Vasari be a danger to all the races? Hence the suspicion that the 4th race added to the game will be what's chasing the Vasari?

true but what the two other races don't know doesn't bother them

Quite frankly, I see the situation where the Vasari Nemesis arrives in 1 out of 2 scenarios.

1. Like the Allies of WWII, the three overcome their differences to unite, temporarily, against a common foe.

OR

2. The Nemisis will arrive and slaughter the nearest race (probably Vasari), and engage the remaining two.  The weakest of the two (or the smallest) will die off first, and the last surviving race would flee, or MAYBE defeat the foe once and for all.

I think #1 is MUCH more likely, though.

would be fun if there were some maps, if that nemesis is ever introduced in an expasion where you have to play cooperatively in a scenario such as defend certain sectors or capture a specific system. because frankly i miss a campaign.

I've never played a game before where I enjoyed playing each faction as much as I do in SOASE. I like each one equally. But if forced to decide, I might say TEC only because their audio messages are a bit more fun to hear.

dude, Asgard ftw. Ragnorak Colosus pwns the fuck out of the Wraith and Ancients. Combine it with Freyjas, Thors, Odins, and Gungirs and you have a fleet that can't be stopped. Only problem is the ungodly cost of the Rangorak. Getting 2 costs 50000 credits, 5000 metal, and 4200 credits, as well as 800 fleet supply. Who needs a network of Ancient space gates when you can demolish an netire empire with a single fleet?

This is using Dolnyck's SG Races mod by the way.

i prefer the TEC. while i will admit, i havent played vasari and advent all that much, especially in entrenchment ( i just started my first vasari match in entrenchment), just by reading the forums and and the strategies it seems to me that the TEC strategy dovetails the best with my own (turtling). they have the best defense structures, and need to build up eco in order to win

actually advent is known for having the best defense structures, epecially in entrenchment

well that just goes to show you what 6 months away from the game, and the forums, will do. i will have to play as them next, especially since they are reputed to be the best in late game scenarios

it seems that advent are better, due to OP units, but their crappy eco and my lack of playtime make me dislake them, i dont have enough micro skill to fully use them with their full battle potential and so their eco don't allow me to compensate casualties with production as easely s with other races.

so actually i found vasari more powerful just because their eco being better than advent i can spend more time microing battles than my empire and with their ships necessiting the biggest amount of micro of the 3 races i have more results with vasari than advent

BUT , as i said my average playtime isn't really high so i favour TEC, their  eco can compensate most of my micro lackness ( who said noob friendly race? ) and i thnik they are the weakest SO i favour them :)

since starcraft i favour the "weakest" race in any startegy game i play, just because... they are weaker :D

winning with the weakest means you are just better not you are using the winning stuff :p ( and sometimes that you are harder, mentally stronger and officially the most bad ass player to play against ===> don't know how to translate my own language here to illustrate what i think, " le plus fourbe" )

but to join the game background/ scenarii , TEC will win the 3 races struggle, in any case. Just because their core worlds are still untouched and start full warfare industry mobilization ( soz dont sure about this word)

What can do a one world start galactic empire like advent against  thousand worlds like TEC dominion ? what can do billions of psy enhaced workers against billions of billions  of workers ?

watch WW2, for every tank or plane germans produced (strongest or not) allies produced 10, you can be better one time or another you start running out of ammo or luck ...

and vasari you will say ? a fleeing race ? peoples with just their shoes, a bag and a gun ? peoples mostly relying on slave labour ?

slaves don't make great workers... a big pile of stones ( pyramid's ;) and yes i know it wasn't only slaves ) is one thing a nano-technology madnes like a starship ? wow would you really put your life in the hands of an angry bunch of surrended ennemies ? O___O

no really TEC just should have win. But as some peoles said the biggest change will be the 4th race, vasari nemesis ...

we gonna see :)

I cut-my-teeth on TEC.  Love my Marza and Dunnov.  It started to get old though, I mean, rushing Marza's to lvl 6 just seemed to be the entire point of TEC.  If I was gonna take any race online TEC would be it.

Now I'm learning Advent.  Played em on easy to work the kinks out, raped a few comp's and then tried on normal, and got my tush handed to me because I'm used to being strong early, but I think Advent are more mid-late game race.  So you gotta setup defenses and economy to survive til then.

I'm playing a random huge multi-star FFA now.  And I'm realy impressed.  I'm holding off fleets 2 to 3 times my size.  I'm sure there's more to learn.

My fav. is Tec i think. I like the econ boom and cheap ships.

The vasaari are nice too cuz of the space eggs and early tech, but something weird with my version of the game or something, cuz i researched returning armada and i had to pay 2500 creds plus metal and crystal to activate it, and it only gave me a Hc, 2 lf, and a lrm

advent are cool but i don't play them much cuz of they're bad econ imo and their early civil tech

in the end, the TEC will win. it is inevitable. war supply, as dOOmy88 pointed out, is 95% of the battle. as the saying goes, amateurs discuss tactics, generals discuss logistics.

in the game, TEC is still my favorite. but, i'm currently playing hyperion's gate as advent, with 3 unfair and 4 hard ai's, and the advent ships are ridiculously good. i'm defending 2 worlds from simlutaneous attacks with a starbase and a small fleet against huge fleets with 15 hc, 30 lrf and 10 anti-structure cruisers, along with carriers, caps, and assorted support frigates. when i played as TEC, i never micro'd, but now i see how powerful it can be if you do it properly
