What Did You Play This Weekend?

It’s been a while since I last asked this, so I thought it was a good time to see what games people are either still playing, or if they have moved onto something new.

On the PC, I squeezed in a few hours with the Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment beta.  I really had to limit myself, because I could have easily spent the whole weekend playing this, which is a good thing, but Saturday was Valentine’s Day and that could have led to future problems playing games.

On Friday, I hopped on Xbox.com and downloaded the Halo Wars trial.  I was really impressed it with it, and it was just a fun game to play.  The demo really left me wanting more, and it’s something that I will keep on my radar for next month.  I also downloaded the H.A.W.X. demo, but haven’t had a chance yet to play it.

So what did you play?

Friday was my only real gaming day of the weekend (took it off for a 3-day weekend).  Played through F.E.A.R 2... yeah.  I liked the first one a lot more.  Alma wasn't nearly as scary this time around.  No lurking in the shadows watching, no sitting at the top of a ladder I'm climbing.  It's like she just doesn't care enough to be scary anymore.

I really wanted to play Sins this weekend but my partner is now addicted to 'Agricola' so whilst I'm having a ball with it; the PC games are still gathering dust for the third week in a row. ;)

My current gamepicks... I don't restrict this to what I played this weekend, because I play these pretty much every day. :D

(list is alphabetically ordered)

  • Bullet Candy (Entertaining shoot'em'up, and it I got it cheap)
  • Everyday Shooter (It's a 360 degree shoot'em'up... but it truly ROCKS (literally!))
  • Geometry Wars (Fast paced classic 360 degree shoot'em'up)
  • Gunroar (Brilliant FREE 360 degree shoot'em'up... Get it HERE
  • Spore (Because I enjoy designing critters, DRM doesn't bother me. :P)
  • World of Goo (Awesome building/puzzle game)

There it is... Can you tell I enjoy a basic shooter? :)

Waiting for Stardock's beta of Elemental (June 2009?) my daughter ("Sorceresss") and I ("CyberMage") are still regularly playing at Heroes of Might and Magic V : Tribes of the East (released in October 2007).

It's our favourite genre : turn-based, sword-and-sorcery, Grand Strategy.

Friday I went to a friend's house. Saturday and Sunday I was at another friends house all day and we played all 3 Halos, GoW (first time for me), Smash Bros Melee, RB2, GH:WT, and other games I can't remember. Monday I just vegged out on facebook, I tried to play an unreal tournament 3 demo, but it said it couldn't run a modified program or something.

FEAR 2 - love it, maybe because it is much like FEAR 1.

SINS Entrenchment - Still fun, but cant wait to play multi again. Getting desync atm.

Defense Grid - Fun, fun, fun. And cheap!

City of Heroes - Cant get away from it.

I played one or two hours of "Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None" which I just bought a few days ago. It's a nice game although I think I am missing cutscenes in VMware (and I have no idea why playing video of all things wouldn't work in a VM).

My flatmate and I played a few games of StarCraft, as we often do.

And I think I played an hour of Alpha Centauri, my all-time favourite since apparently the gaming industry have decided not to make non-fantasy non-hero-based turn-based strategy games that run in a window any more.

Yesterday the Simpsons game for the Nintendo portable timewaster arrived. I might play that soon, if I find the time.

And I played lots of games of Chess against my iPhone (Deep Green).

I tried to get into the following games this weekend...

Oblivion: Didn't work, my mod installs aren't organized properly...
Fallout 3: Not that excited about it, I've already put dozens of hours into it...
Sins of a Solar Empire: Yeah, I just couldn't get into the mode for it.  Not enough time or... I dunno.

What I did play this weekend?

Evochron Legends:  I've been having a blast with the multiplayer, doing co-operative contracts with a couple of other players, getting into dogfights.  Even exploring the game world... well it makes me feel like someone discovering a planet... being the first person on the surface... Good god, I'm going back to playing it :D
