new achievements

it's a minor point, really, but some players might enjoy a few new achievements themed around the expansion content. examples like:

starbase killer: destroy at least 20 enemy starbases

mining: deploy at least 2000 mines

paranoiac: destroy at least 1000 mines/ build 100 scouts

planet bound: win a game without constructing a single starbase

starbase entrepreneur: earn at least 10.000 credits from starbase income.

maybe there's more, but a handful of new ones wouldn't hurt and would hopefully not be too much trouble.

I like the harder ones. Win a game without building a starbase is a good one. Win a game without building any scouts (no mine clearing) is a good complement to the mine clearing one. ;) 10k credits from starbase income isn't too bad, but the rest are a bit simplish!

keep in mind, those were just examples. I didn't spend too much time thinking of them. but nice that you like the idea in principle. should have thought of the 'no scouts' idea myself.

maybe something like 'win without starbase busters' could be in too, but since a) you don't need them if your fleet is big enough and b) vasari don't really have one anyway, that's probably a stupid one.

throw in your ideas everyone, let's see what we can come up with.

"Deal more than 40,000 damage total with a single use of the Argonev's Final Protocol". Name it something like "What's this button do?"

40k might be too little, though.

How about:

Win a game without build starbase killers

Win a game with ONLY starbases and frigates

Win a game without doing ANY research!!

ROFL, but it was sooooo red and was flashing. I just had to push it!!!

"Is that all you got??" - Have a starbase survive over 15k worth of damage.

Now there's a challenge. :) You may want to make it without any civilian/military/defense research.. chances are you'll still need fleet point research :P

That's quite good - you could have a faction-specific one for each side, e.g. Advent: "Throwing Rocks: deal X damage[/kill Y ships] with the Ascencia's[sp?] meteor control ability."

That also results in a neat side effect in that it might encourage some people to play different factions.

good idea and lol @ the name. honey, I nuked the starbase.

maybe for advent an equivalent achievment for dealing meteroid dmg. call it 'dark rain'.

edit: @ MN_One, lol, same thought. good call btw with the different factions incentive.

But Not Quite: Have a starbase get down to 10% health but survive. (edit: Carbon's "survive 15k damage" is better)

Offensive Miner: deploy 1000 mines in an enemy gravity well.

Great Structural Integrity: Don't lose a single starbase. Must have built at least one.

Death Star: Accumulate 700 enemy vessels destroyed by a single starbase.

Rain of Destruction: Have an instance of 100 planet bombing dps. (Not so much for entrenchment, just thought it'd be cool)

Something like these? The numbers, of course, are variable, as I don't know what would be reasonable.

I actually had this once. My Vasari starbase survived an attack with ~250 hp left. All my repair bays got blown up and the construction frigates didn't respawn (was a pirate base), so I was babysitting the base's shield cooldown while the remaining bombers and fighters died off. It was fun!

I like those ideas, though.

These are great ideas. And a good thread too, thanks Shadowhal.

I will just throw a few into the ring:

Deep Space 9: Destroy 300+ enemy vessels with a starbase only upgraded with economic/srikecraft upgrades.

One with the Force: Destroy 300+ enemy vessels using the Advent SB's meteor ability.

Mine Runner: Have one capital ship endure 10000+ dmg from mines.

Haha! This one would be awesome.

Yes it would.

great ideas everyone, thanks for your input so far.

I really like these ideas. I hope IronClad is having a look!

How about this one: Destroy 20 enemy Starbases only with your own Starbases

and: Build a fully-upgraded Starbase at all of your planets.

How about that : have something when you finish the achievements at 100% :P

actualy there is nothing for now and its a bit disapointing since it takes some time to finish all.

I agree.. anyone have any ideas?

something recognisable in the ICO lobby? maybe a little crown or sth next to the name? or a different colour for the name? hope that won't lead to bragging and stuff, but gameplay changes are pretty much out of the question and the name can be changed anyway. ...

unless, you could of course do sth like in diablo II where you got titles for your char when you finish the game on skill levels. sort of like getting a 'General' or 'Fleet Admiral' in your title. hm, well I heard that the next stage of impulse does add a few online options. if the way profiles are shown changes, maybe there they could integrate something. as I said, an honorary title for fun.

:( I had 90 percent of achievements lost all of it when I reinstalled since after first beta (didn't make a copy) :annoyed:  Now i don't bother with doing them again.

actually, there could be a set of online achievements too, but I guess that would be problematic, because it's no fun, if your enemy plays with you or you could just get them by defeating a weaker opponent. nevtheless, some online achievements could be cool. maybe 'win a 2 vs. 2 mp game against two human players' or 'manipulator: win a ffa game by making alliances with players at war.' or 'isolationist: win a ffa without any alliances or diplomatic treaties.'.

Even though I have never played an online matchup with Sins (I like the ability to vary speeds in SP and hate having to rely on other people to stick around/needing myself to stick around), I like the ideas for MP proposed by Shadowhal. I can't think of anything for SP though, which is a shame...

Well, SP could have some gameplay bonuses for achievements. For example, there's a set of achievements for giving stuff to other players. Completing all of them can unlock "diplomat" status/title, which then gives you a 10%/20% longer mission duration in game. Completing the Go Big Or Go Home + other capitals related achievements can reduce the cost of capitals by 5%, or increase their hit points by 5%. Stuff like that. Every time you start a new SP game, you select one "title" to take, so you don't get all the bonuses stacked on.

Of course it's not going to happen, but if it were.. ;)

Unstoppable: Destroy a fully upgraded starbase, including all health and no economic upgrades, in under 30 seconds.

That one's confuzzling! You can have all weapons and all health upgrades and still an economic or two :P
