TEC Carriers FTW!!

TEC Carriers FTW!!

So I'm trying to figure out how TEC fits in the 1.1 game.  Yes their capships have useful abilities (please don't marzabait on me) but where do TEC fit into a carrier race?

Can we come up with a scenario where TEC wins a carrier battle against matched Advent or Vasari without Cap abilities?

I'm thinking a 30 minute fleet with legs would be 15 carriers (all fighters), 15-20 LRM (reserved for cap killing), 40 Cobalts (carrier-killers), and 20 or more Hoshinkos.  From here keep pumping out 2 or 3 Cobalts and Hoshinkos for every 1 carrier and LRM.  Once you have 40 or more fighter squadrons you can start to think about bombers.

I haven't played much TEC in 1.1 though, so what do you think?

TEC are just too weak and again weak. The end Vasari rule. Kostura Cannon KABBOOOMMM I win the game.

Not True!  Exhaustive Combat Tests have shown that 10 out of 10 TEC Fleets using the HOSHIKO(TM) absolutely wtfpwn enemy fleets and have a HUGE reduction in combat losses, crew injuries, and property insurance claims!  HOSHIKO(TM) isn't just great in your fleet, it is CHEAP too!  We can send you your first HOSHIKO(TM) today for the low cost of 19.95 Trillion Credits!   But WAIT!  We are so CONFIDENT about the HOSHIKO(TM), we'll let you build your own HOSHIKO(TM) at any participating Level 3 Military Lab.    So what are you WAITING for?  Try HOSHIKO(TM) -- don't wait, call TODAY!

                                                Product Disclaimer

  • Level 3 Military Lab must conduct appropriate research to build Hoshiko(TM).
  • Hoshiko(TM) occasionally chase things around the gravwell while your ships are destroyed.
  • All Combat Tests were conducted by people named "Cykur" against people not named "Cykur".
  • Hoshiko(TM) may not help you wtfpwn anything.

Oh noes!  The race with the most expensive ships is going to spam the race with the cheapest ships to death!  The horror!

I thought that the Advent had the cheapest ships, but I could be wrong. Your point still stands though. Besides, it's not really that hard to get the tech needed for Hosikos, is it?

Disciples are indeed pretty cheap, but other stuff isn't.  Of course, you are paying for quality when you buy an Illuminator.

played a game last night where one opponent spammed cobalts - really effective against carriers, as noted, but pretty useless when I brought heavy cruisers in....

From that I'd say 20-30 cobalts max, if you see your opponent going carriers, then start pulling out some other ship types.

That said, I'm really liking the utility of light frigates in this build.  Their speed makes tactical manuever possible against more powerful ships.  Sometime soon I'll have to try trade ports + cobalt spamming, maybe bring in some hoshi+kodiaks but just enough to take down a Cap or two...

If your fleet has carriers with fighters and LFs (e.g., cobalts), and your opponent keeps bringing in carriers, then keep pumping out LFs.  The carriers you have will keep his SC busy and your LFs will roast the carriers; why build anything else (except

the HOSHIKO(TM)
)?

PS. Cykur, you're my hero.  Because ICO was sucking so bad yesterday, I actually played a SP game...as TEC (the irony)!  Anyway, TEC still has a really slow start, but man...vasari repair bays look like infants compared to upgraded TEC repair bays (15/sec vs 40/sec).  Their anti-SC cap abilities also rock.  The thing that I still love the vasari for, and always will is their economy requires NO imperial labs and those phase missles can pwn siddy's progen battle ball.

Hey Cykur What race do you play as anyway?

  • When all my allies want to play Vasari, I play TEC.
  • When all my allies want to play Advent, I play Vasari.
  • When I want to kill Vasari, I play TEC.
  • When I want to kill Advent or TEC, I play Vasari.
  • When I want a challenge, I fight Advent with TEC.
  • When I am concerned my allies are noobs and I might have to solo 4 people, I play Vasari.
  • When I am feeling bored and/or lazy, I play Advent.

Hooray!

TEC still has a really slow start

Everyone has a slow start compared to a Vasari with accessible neutrals.

The thing that I still love the vasari for, and always will is their economy requires NO imperial labs

Try playing a map where you don't get any neutrals.  Can be challenging.

those phase missles can pwn siddy's progen battle ball.

Somebody kicked Siddy in the battle ball?
