Help me PLEASE!Impulse Won't even let me log in to update SINS to 1.1! [banned pirate]

I'm just not getting the help I need right now.

I can't even connect to impulse to get the 1.1 patch.

I am running Vista

I am behind a lynksis Router

I am on comcast internet provider

I rebooted/reinstalled impulse full version many times

I ran Impulse with Admin Privliedges (And now it's currently not doing anything, it's stuck on veryifying).

Generally, I'm not a happy camper. I love Sins of a Solar Empire, but not enough to have to put up with a lesser version of STEAM. Please, help me solve this problem.

The following error is what I get.

(Server not responding, please check your internet connections)

I haven't tried altering my proxies on impulse yet, what should I do? I'm not even behind a proxy, I don't know what to do. I've tried everything I've seen on these forums for the last 3 hours. This is insanity. I need help, if you're reading this, help me. I'll do anything.

Yeah. I'm trying to get some help, do you have any idea what to do? I like this game a lot, but by the end of today, if my problem is not resolved, I'm just not going to play this game, and I'm going to try and get my money refunded for this game.

Common man, you can't just post 2 words that don't even help, then not even revist and post in the thread again when I need help. :|

That sort of makes me mad.

Go to the Impulse menu (blue orb) and hit check for updates. It's possible there was just a server burp.

There's no record of your purchsae in your account (I just personally looked). So you'll need to make sure you add a registration with your CD key once you get Impulse up.

That's because I can't even log in. I can't really do much of anything.

I litterally installed this program today. And I'm not able to do anything because it won't let me connect. I had to go to the website to even register. It wouldnt let me register by just doing it off the impulse login page.

And there is no Blue Orb. Anywhere.

Are you sure you downloaded Impulse then?

Even if you couldn't connect, you would still be in a screen that looks like this.

Ugh, Nevermind. I've had enough of this. I'm just going to wait for this patch to be available by any other way BUT Impulse. To many problems with Impulse for me to use. It should be like how STEAM is. I can install it. Purchase games. Download Patches. No problems what-so-ever.

You guys should of tested impulse out what more before commiting to it. Even though Sins of a Solar Empire is a great game, the distribution of patches is beyond terrible, and because of that, it has made me come to the decision to NOT play sins of a solar empire so long as patches are only done through Impulse. I will not be purchasing anymore games that require Impulse to patch.

Goodbye.

Warez user caught.

I like how he compares it to Steam which works basically the same way as Impulse.  And if you remove this one user's comments from the forum, all the "Impulse don't work" threads disappear.

Banned.

I figure I would chime in but I've nothing but met expectations with impulse.  It has worked reliably and has patched all my stardock games with no problems.

I've been working tech support for nearly 15 years and I always hear about the things that go wrong but you guys at Stardock should know that i've had zero issues with impulse so kudos to you all.

I was a bit, diswayed from having to use Impulse to update.  I already use Steam quite a bit, which keeps all my games update and gives a easy place to purchase games, download to any machine I have (X-Com on the laptop is nice at work :P).

Impulse loads Fastttt.

Not having to wait for Steam to attempt a reconnect and for me to confirm offline mode.  Impulse has no requirement to be loaded to play your game.

Integrity of patch and patching process, so users dont have to load mega version patches so they are sure they have all the required files.  Nice how Impulse does this with checking first and updating only what you need.  Sure Steam does this also, which makes any online distribution very nice vs standalone megapatches.

I guess I am never at a point like others who wish to update but lack an internet connection and only able to access updates by temporary means and need a standalone patch.  I wonder how much of a percentage of gamers is that in this day and age?

I guess if there are people who will host the mega patches, why not give them the file?

Frogboy, maybe you need to check over at https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/forum/457 Plenty of ""Impulse don't work" threads" over there.

Forcing something like impulse on your customers you better be sure that it works well, impulse doesn't. The name of the product is ironic, because it feels like you did it on an "impulse".

I have no interest of alfa/beta testing your content distribution system and I don't want a major hassle every time I want to update one of your games.
I'll jump through hops to get a game to work, but this delivery system isn't something that I need nor want and it's up to you to make it work if you want to force it on us.

I will be sure to think twice (and check the impulse support forums) before buying something (ie Elemental) from you again.

People obviously have settings or routers that Stardock didn't or can't test (they can't test every router and every computer and EVERYTHING with Impulse). I'm running on a 5 year old computer and I have 0 problems with it. Stop blaming Impulse. It's also very new (where as steam has been around since the HL2 beta I believe)

Frogboy, maybe you need to check over at https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/forum/457 Plenty of ""Impulse don't work" threads" over there.

The issue that some people have run into has already been resolved. It wasn't Impulse, it was the Install Aware web downloader that they were having issues with.

We've replaced all the Impulse downloads with the full download so that there is no web downloader to install Impulse.

Blaming Impulse for something like that would be like blaming Impulse because the website the link is on doesn't work with Opera web browser or something.  The users in those threads aren't running Impulse, they're running into problems downloading Impulse - which like I said has been resolved.

Thrawn2787: Why shouldn't I blame impulse? It is impulse that doesn't work and a program that I as a customer doesn't want. I'm not saying the environment that impulse has to work in isn't complex and that there are several factors that can impact it, but then why force it on your customers? And yes, its new, another reason NOT to FORCE it on your customers.

Frogboy: Yeah, I'm sure you have solved _some_ problems. Many seem to still have problems though. In my
case for example. Redownloaded the whole Sins via impulse some time ago. Impulse managed to update
itself one or two days ago, but getting the patch after that has been an exercise in frustration.

I seem to be getting the patch right now as I'm writing this(knock on wood), but this has been a hassle, and a hassle just to get the thing downloaded is something that I don't need and one that I don't like having forced on me.

I seem to be getting the patch right now as I'm writing this(knock on wood), but this has been a hassle, and a hassle just to get the thing downloaded is something that I don't need and one that I don't like having forced on me.

And when we had the stand alone patch, we had a whole different set of "hassles" to deal with such as...

People screaming how large the file was, how long it was taking to download it (another nice thing about Impulse is that it automatically distributes the load amongst servers all around the world -- if you're in Europe, Impulse will grab the files from local European servers).

People who downloaded a 600 megabyte patch from some third party site only to discover that we did another update a few days later that they then had to download another 600 megabyte patch.

The things we make that have been using Impulse (or SDC before it) often get multiple updates PER MONTH.

We released GalCiv 2.0 last week for instance and we have 2.01 ready to go which is just  new features and improvements to the game.

If it were a stand alone patch, we'd have to give everyone a 500+ megabyte patch.  The 2.01 update will likely be less than 2 megs because of Impulse.

So yea, there are a handful - and I mean that literally - a handful of people who have had trouble getting Impulse going.

Most of those people ran into problems because of the web installer we used which we replaced yesterday - hours after discovery.

There's a second group of people running into problems logging on which we should have corrected shortly.

But I would say that Impulse works perfectly for 99.9% of users right now and within the next few days, it'll work on 99.99% of users.

Obviously your users on their own would chose to have the patch delivered by carrier pigeon, one bit at the time, if they were left to their own devices.
If I can't get the standalone patch from server one, I can try server two. If I can't get it from Impulse via the superfast local server, I'm SOL.

Yes, you update a lot, for those that want to live on the beta-edge that probably is great.
Me, I make do with the major updates when it comes to Sins. And it's not like this is a new problem for game companies, most seem to do fine with stand alone patching. With some planing it is not that hard to do incremental patching with stand alone patches.

I doubt your percentages, if I'm having problems, I'm pretty sure a couple of % of your other customers will too. And "works perfectly" implies just that, but at the very least there seems that you need to kill software firewalls/antivirus and such. Nothing "perfect" about that.

Ahhh!  The everyone else is doing it and it's good enough reasoning.

Meh.

I'm glad that Stardock is trying to improve their service, provide more vallue, and differentiate themselves.
