Air/Lightning-based assassin hero

One of my biggest beefs in games these days that involve magic is always one of the four prime elements, air.  Specifically, the method of attack associated best with air, lightning.  It always seems so underutilized in games these days to find any form of spell caster that uses electrical attacks (hell, air in general) to get the job done, and I believe an air elementalist style demigod assassin would be a great addition to the lineup (perhaps an air/earth elemental style to have opposing elements much like the Torchbearer's Fire/Ice).

I'm not really good at the whole art design aspect, so how the demigod looks is open to interpretation, but specific attacks could range from:

AoE knockbacks, potentially knocking minions off of cliffs (this would be fun).  targeted lightning strikes with perhaps a knockback or a stun, cyclonic roots that toss people.  I can't really come up with more balanced ideas due to the fact that I don't know what abilities currently exist to great detail, and don't know how to mix/match them properly, but those are some ideas.

Others would be chain lightnings and anything else cliche.  But, most importanly, lightning, it has to exist on a demigod!

If an earth/air elemental assassin were used for the opposing elements thing, then you can start to mix in a "quicksand" like ability for AoE snares, you can chuck giant rocks at the enemy pulled up out of the ground around the assassin, sink (minions) into the ground and a lot of other fun stuff.

But, the original point, essentially, is I'd like to see more underutilized elements as viabilities, since fire and ice seem all the rage these days, but lightning seems to be the red-headed stepchild and, let's face it, lightning is awesome.

Fire and Ice are all the rage because they are the ultimate opposites. Fire is to Ice as as Jedi is to sith, or Hippie to conservative, Or children vs blender! ok never midn that last one was mine.

People have a natural fascination with fire and always will. Sure lightning is cool but fire keeps burning even after lightning strikes.

Guild wars had a good system of spells, i really enjoyed my options in that game, and i would like to see some more elemental things as you say. Whose to say they don't already have a demigod that can command lightning or use lightning skills. The Queen of thorns uses plants and nature, the torch bearer uses fire ice, Maybe regelus gets Holy harpoon bolts that bring lightning strikes on enemies it hits?

And they've also said they'd like help creating items during the beta phases, so you could get your input in there

true enough, but let's assume they don't for the moment.

Just as fire and ice are primal opposites, so is the earth and air. What if there was an earth and air based elemental caster assassin in demigod? Imagine the potential!

Except that while they are in many ways opposite, they're also the *same* -- massive transfer of thermal energy in (fire) or out (ice) of a defined point. I've always associated the ability of fire magic with the ability of ice because of that.

..Ive always been more fascinated by lightning truthfully, its always so quick you never feel satisfied. And the destructive not to mention the destructive force. I would love an ice/lightning based hero, but seeing as torchbearer is fire/ice that's unlikely. but I would be just as satisfied by an air/lightning god

another cool one ive always wanted was a bone controller similar to a diablo 2 necro, bone prison, raise skelis.. all that fun stuff :P lol

I support a lightning demigod, provided he is named accordingly *points toward username*

ha ha, for shits and giggles, How about a Lightning/Musical Bard assassin, and we call him "The Conductor"

ahh i amuse myself so easily

A lightning demigod would certainly look impressive, and would definitely come off as original. Perhaps he could be a play on Thor, since GPG said modern religions should seem to derive glimpses from the "true" pantheon.

I fully support this idea! Don't ask why (since I don't know) but I always loved air magic in games. For example, I used Air Magic in Guild Wars even though it wasn't the best for PvE <_<. There are many ways to make unique skills for it to, from support (in the cases mentioned, wind knocking the enemies apart or even a buff that envelopes an ally with a gust of wind making ranged attacks less effective) to offensive (imagine a micro burst localized in the one spot an enemy is :P)

If something dies from Lightning they need to jitter and spasm in the cliche-electrocuted style.
Bonus points for the dead bodies having hair standing up. >_>

I should design a game. It'd never get finished because it'd have thousands of minor things like that for polish.

That's all I care about on the subject.

Should be a general -- a conductor does lead the band / orchestra, after all.

You raise a valid point. General it is. With a song so sad it will rend your soul with the melody.

But...but...I wanted it to be named Shokk, with two 'K's... :( ... (:( ... :SNIFF!: ... X-(

I'd actually rather he be an assassin of some kind, striking quickly, striking hard, like...well..lightning.

Earth, fire, wind, water.... one more needed.... hmmm..... Heart?

On a more serious note, you could do some interesting things outside the four main elements for demigods. Gravity, Temporal, Radioactive, Illusions Light and Darkness, Stars / Moon / Sun, Mechanical, etc.

Hell yeahhhh. I want a telekensis and gravity demigod. :D

Throw people up in the air, gravity vortex, etc. That'd be the awesomeest.

With cool distortion effects instead of diffuses.
