My First Computer Game

My First Computer Game

This can be a fun post.  To the best of your memory, list the first or first few computer games you can remember playing.  They can be PC, Mac, Commodore, w/e.  Try to stay away from coin-ops and consols like Atari and Nintendos.  True computer games.

For me...
TI-99 Parsec

My first game was on an Acorn Atom, think it was called Dog Fight or something. It was a 2-player game and you both controlled separate airplanes and flew about trying to shoot each other down.

Technically, my first games were Ernie's Big Splash and Loderunner on DOS. I don't really remember them much though. The first ones I remember were Warcraft II, Duke Nukem, Fleet Defender, and Earthsiege 2.

My first online game was Airwarrior when AOL offered it for free. Ahh, me ol' "You have been shot down by a(n) x year old," starting with 7. Can't remember if it was still free when I got around to 9 (stopped playing when they started charging for each hour played).

I started out with the Mac version of SimCity 2000. I logged more hours with that game than maybe any other since (though I'm sure Civ 2 comes in a close second).

Well I'll add my 2 cents.

PONG was the first console game I played.

After that for the Computer it would have to be Civilizations on my old Amiga 2500, funny thing I sold that Amiga 15 years ago and believe this the guy still has it and it still works!

I was very happy, that Civilisation I was released last year once more and it works on WinXP (it was the package with all Civilisation games till Civ IV). I liked to nuke barbarians.

Total Annihilation. PC. It's awesome.

Falcon 3.0.

I'd have to assume I wasn't playing on especially high realism, given that the game was released when I was two, and I don't think I was playing it much later than '95 or '96.

Anyone know of this game where a boy gets his dog stolen by aliens or somesuch thing and he goes on a mission to get his dog back. It was a sidescrolling platformer.

Commander Keen, maybe?

My first computer gaming experience was on the Commodore 64. We had a lot of games for it, but the most memorable for me was the port of Mr Do's Castle.

I used to play games on my granddad's first PC, too ... usually played Dune II, which I think was the first RTS game ever, published by Westwood (the same guys who eventually went on to make Command&Conquer and Red Alert).

When our family got our own PC, my first game ever was Mechwarrior II. Probably the best in the franchise.

I think you might count this as cheating but ...

On a Sinclair programmable calculator, with red 10 or 12 digit LED display and 79 program steps if I remember correctly, a game called "MoonLander". You had to type the program in before playing every time (no permanent storage) and the "game" consisted of typing in thrusts and it would calculate a new height - if you got down to zero without going negative (splat) you won.

I got really annoyed cos' I converted it to the schools BBC Micro for my 6th year maths computing course - the external examiner moaned that there were no graphics - IT WAS A MATHS COURSE - the teacher & I spent months working out all this complex math with imaginary numbers and all sort of shit - and he moaned cos there were no graphics.

Oooh - that was a deep seated one - I feel better for letting that out - only about 25/30 years ago.

My first gaming experience was with a VIC-20, which for those of you who don't know, is a sister-computer to the Commodore-64. I played such games as Jupiter Lander, Pacman, the text-based adventures like Voodoo Castle and Adventure Island as well as games like Serpentine Radar Rat Race.
