Something about Scifi channel i don't get.

Something i don't get about Sci-fi channel is that they have never shown any of the Star Wars movies. How come they don't?

PS:I hope that the upcoming Star Wars miniseries will be shown on Sci-fi.

Well, since everyone knows that Star Wars happened "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away", the movies are not really Science Fiction as much as they are Historical Documents. Sci-Fi channel, IIRC, doesnt focus much on biographies or re-creations of historical happenings, so it probably doesn't like airing the movies.

All kidding aside, it probably doesn't want to pay the licensing rights to show the movie.

Especially since they'll undoubtedly try and slap a "Sci-fi original!" sticker on it if they ever did air the movies... Anyone else noticed that about them?

I remember SciFi before they started making their own movies that make me want to puke. Admittedly, a few are decent enough, but those are the ones lightest on either the sci of the fi :P

Sci-Fi is too busy pumping out crappy movies and figuring out how to squeeze more commercials into Ghost Hunters to really care about Star Wars and other sci-fi things. I can't recall a single original movie or series they've made that I like (that includes that abomination of Battlestar Galatica--it was bad decades ago and it's still bad today).

Star Wars mini-series? When did this happen? Who created this? "I have a bad feeling about this..." If it's NBC or CBS it'll bomb. Hopefully Fox or ABC made it.

Lucas made it. :P If they're talking about the 3d animated cartoon.

Actually, Sci-Fi went ahead and started slapping that logo / commercial thingey on a lot of shows, too. For example, Stargate SG-1 is a "sci fi original"... never mind that for the first few seasons it belonged to another broadcast company (I can't remember their name for some reason...)! They also did that to Jake 2.0 -- it was originally produced years ago by one company, but when Sci-fi got their hands on it and re-aired it, it was labeled a "Sci-Fi Original".

I suppose this would be a bad time to say i liked SS Doomtrooper....

But SS Doomtrooper was fairly comical :P Stuff like "Mansquito", though..

Ron, if Sci Fi is the only network airing a show, there's nothing wrong with calling it a Sci Fi original. It doesn't necessarily mean they produce it, but they're the ones airing it and probably funding it, so essentially it does become their show. :P

Much like Futurama doesn't belong to FOX anymore, but Comedy Central.

Stargate SG-1 is a Sci-Fi original. The first five years were produced by Showtime, no broadcast involved. UPN was showing reruns for a while, but when Showtime dropped it, Sci-Fi bought the rights for it and started extending the series. The original 5 seasons are definitely unfair to call Sci-Fi originals, but the rest of it, they own from the bottom up.

Jake 2.0 I don't get though, it's a viacom production, originally aired on UPN(odd how many things aired on UPN...), never even finished the season out, and hasn't been continued by Sci-Fi.

I watch Sci-Fi, since they have Atlantis and BSG, but I really wish I didn't because they don't deserve the viewership. When you have a station that routinely wastes money on the crap they make for every Saturday night, none of which are watchable in the least, and yet cancel brilliant shows like The Dresdin Files, or not keeping the "should-be-in-the-top-5-of-all-time-shows" Firefly going... well, no more need be said about the incompetence of those in charge.

Once BSG and Atlantis are off the air, I'm off the channel and happier for it.

Wrestling? On Sci-Fi? Extra credit in proving my argument.

Yeah, Mansquito was junk. Still, the transformation scene was pretty feaky, and the monster looked appropiatly disgusting.

P.S.: I wish they aired The Outer Limits more often. Oh, well, guess I'l just save up and buy a DVD set.

As much as I loved the show, to be fair it was its time. I mean, what else could they have done? The G'ould were defeated, the Replicators were defeated (in their galaxy anyway), hell they managed to wipe out an entire race of ancients :P What else could they have done with the show that wouldn't have been stupid? ;)

Dude, you do not have any idea how bad those movies are. A new one that is coming called Aztec Rex. If you dont get the title, it is about Herman Cortez and his men going to a Aztec village and fighting a giant terex. When I heard about that movie, I avoided the SciFi channel for weeks. Honestly I only watch the channel when it is playing zombie movies. It it usally pretty hard to screw it up, but trust me some try their. They do play the Redident Evil 1 and 2 and hopefully 3. Also If you see a movie with the words 'from rave to grave' avoid it like the plague.

Given that there are several local channels with the habit of playing Stargate and Stargate Atlantis episodes... I'm not buying it, still.

Both the sci-fi channel and the channel that first aried Stargate and Jake 2.0 are owned by the same company..

same reason that star wars will not be on the sci-fi channel another company that owns competing channels owns the rights to star war..

It's a stretch to just to call that "original", SciFi or not...

It's one of my top 10 movies to avoid at all costs...

While the weekend movies may not be exactly award winners, it doesn't really matter if anyone likes them or not. Scifi makes millions on them. They are cheep and easy to mass produce, so it takes a rather small audience to make a profit on them. Hence the reason they make them.

nope the live action series.
