New Game Idea

Similar to Freelancer

If you all remember Freelancer from Mircoshaft and Digital Anvil that was IMO a great game don’t know where to categorize it but if Stardock could make a game similar to that with the nice UI and mouse controls to the exact way or close to the way Freelancer handles but with more in it.

Like a Space Sim RPG combo where you are always leveling up and looking for that better gun, ship, or equipment. Also have co-op MP as well as allowing the players to make there own servers. Anyway I think it would be a good game to make, and I know if it is similar to Freelancer but with much more content and done the Stardock way a lot of Freelancer players would buy it as we are still looking for the next game along those lines. Several companies have tried but fail because mostly of the UI and awful mouse controls, then lack of content.

Anyway your opinions plz.

Well, FlyByU, programming teams always have a huge amount of ideas on what they might code. The big question is, which of these many ideas *should* they code?

And I believe they're doing the right thing: looking at old games who have such good gameplay that they're still being played today despite 320x200x256 graphics and other limitations. For example, Master of Orion -> GalCiv (and they were the first to actuall ymanage that, although very many others tried).

So what you're talking about is, in effect, an Elite extension. And yup, I believe they'd be the right ones to do so. And who knows, in a couple of years (after they do the non-MoM!), they might just do that...

If you like games of this sort then you might want to check out the X franchise. The current iteration is X3-Terran Conflict. However the developers do warn people that its not for everyone. The only way I can describe the gameplay is singleplayer EVE online.

I played X2. Bought it at game traders without a manual. My first ten minutes into the game resulted in me ejecting from my ship, and drifting into space. Freelancer, though, I have played through to the end. Three times. Went online, made a clan, and cried (inside, outside crying is unmanly :-" ) when I found out MS was shutting down the main server controlling the multi. The reason Freelancer is univerally loved, and the X series has a much more particular appeal is that Freelancer doesn't take much time to pick up. Sure there are a few keys which are good to know, but you can get by with just the wasd keys and the mouse. Also, to avoid slagging the X series, I simply wasn't smart enough to keep up with all the keys. I know the fans would be up in arms if they "dumbed it down", but that's the appeal for a game like that. It talks to the sort of person who wants to use their whole keyboard to play a game.

Anyway, I think some developer is trying to make a Freelancer-a-like. Have a look at this http://www.precursors-game.com/eng/
