Hyperdesk

Hyperdesk

by The Skins Factory

http://www.hyperdesk.com/

So with Hyperdesk just around the corner, is this finally some competition for WindowBlinds?  How well will TSF and Stardock play together?  I know TSF used to contribute here, but they don't show up much anymore, at least with content.  I'm anxiously awaiting the release and can't wait to see DarkMatter.  Hurry up Jeff. ;)

What are your thoughts?

*UPDATE:  Hyperdesk is live.  Go check it out and leave your constructive  comments about it here.  (Notice I didn't say "only leave your good comments or bash it".  Constructive comments can be positive or negative but should be supported with facts.)

Oh and I changed the threads image. :-)

I saw the debate about that. It was no longer "coming soon" and i figured since you guys liked talking about us so much I'd give you a nicer image to look at hehe... you have to admit that "desktop" icon is cool looking ;-) I want a Microsoft Surface table like that in my office. So i can flame you guys in style haha just kidding.

...As good ( subjectively ) as anything TSF has come up with stylisticly , yet supporting more features ( wb vs msstyles )It didn't make sense to us or to our clients to expect the user to pony-up for both a WB license and a theme package. That isn't to say that we won't or haven't considered simultaneous releases in WB format. Hyperdesk is what it is, it was never meant to compete feature-by-feature with Windowblinds, nor was the intention to alienate our fellow WB users. Feature comparisons at this stage are both unproductive and irrelevant.

wasn't *exactly* my point.

OK, lets do something more apples for apples, what about the Thememanager suites , I'd like to see anything you release that can do what ToonXP did , what 3 years ago ( BeOS styled titlebars ) , etc. I don't recall needing a OD sub for that bad boy ( although I have one )

Learn how to take criticism.

There's constructive criticism (which I welcome), and then there's you. There is no constructivism in your tone, just negativity. I wonder if the great and powerful vStyler can learn the difference.

The offer stands, put up or shut up.. kiddo.

Ooo - nice one with the kiddo rebound - you're not used to being owned, are you? Like I said, I have no time for pissing contests with lesser artists. This is fun though.

This is verson 1.0. Do you really expect us to be at the level of Stardock's software? If we were, I'd be even more smug then i am now.

We were going to do titlebars for the release but i pulled it because of costs. I've spent a huge amount of money on this project (think 6 figures) and we were over budget.

If BeOS-style titlebars are that important to you, don't buy our stuff. It's that simple. Like I said, it's a 1.0 release. And again - it is what it is. I use it, I like it. Your mileage may vary. But what you or I think won't make a lick of difference to 99.99% of the people out there.

Owned? heh.. No I'm certainly not used to that, and I have to say, it won't be happening anytime soon..

I must have touched a nerve for you both to show up together in a tour de force. If you don't have time for pissing contests.. run along wont u. :CONGRAT:

As far as criticism goes, everyone and their brother knows you guys censor and take offense and get defensive with anyone who takes issue with anything you do.. blocking and hiding posts is a good indicator of that.. which again.. everyone knows.. your guilty of.

Did you think everyone was going to like it? Tell you your the most bestest ever? You didn't really think that did you?

News flash..3d on 2d looks bad...looks lazy.. theres the critique.. maybe you don't like that, thats just too bad for you.. I would expect TSF to have realized it before throwing it out as an example of their work. When I applied it, I thought it had only half applied the theme.  :NOTSURE:

Lastly.. if your that confident in your VS\WB capabilities.. which was all I ever doubted... come show everyone....you personally..run circles around me in your sleep.. show me its all gone to my head..not a pissing contest.. a design contest.. I'll show up.. my gut tells me..you won't.

Money before mouth eh?

and yeah.. this is fun.. Kiddo. ;)

Z71: You're violating our EULA by altering our work. I can't stop you from doing stuff for your personal use but i can stop you from showing it publicly. You don't have the right to post our work in a different format. You gave up that right when you clicked okay when you installed it. You act like you're doing something we couldn't have done. Give me a break. You want some attention, work on your own themes not ours.

Wait...what? Are you trying to say people aren't allowed to post screenshots of their desktop using your themes? Or, if they do modify it for personal use and decide to post a screenshot (s.c.r.e.e.n.s.h.o.t., not making the mod available), you're gonna chase them down with your legal team like the RIAA chasing down some 94 year old granny? Get over it.
Screenshots: love this one. You need to see a shot of a window? Most of them have at least a titlebar shot or the branded ones show a whole window. I choose how i want to show our work. You know what a window consists of? A lot of white space. Considering you have limited space to show all of the elements of a theme i choose to leave the big white square off. If we were asked nicely, I would be happy to send a customer a shot of a window before they bought one of our products. When i have some time i will probably do some screenshots of just the windows so people can see them on our site. Maybe you're right, they should see it all.

It wasn't that...it's just that the carefully executed screenshots left out a lot, which happened to be the not-so-prettily skinned (or non-skinned) menus/toolbars/icons. No one likes a bait and switch. You see this awesomely demonstrated skin in a slick looking screenshot, load it up...and are left with "uh...where's the rest?" I'd like to see *everything* I'll be getting instead of being disappointed when I see all of it in action. Kinda like buying a shiny car and finding out the interior is stained, ripped, and mismatched to the rest of it.

^ Man.. and I thought it was just me thinking that.. rolls eyes*

Not showing the whites of the windows and not showing the meat and potatoes of the theme are two different things Jeff and you know damn well what we meant...then again, like you said.. you can chose to show what you like.. but what you can't expect is to not get called out for it. Not in the western hemisphere anyway

Claiming that 99.9 % wont even notice things or it wont make a difference to them speaks volumes about how you go about things.

Myself.. I cant sleep at night if I think ive forgot one of the 65 toolbar icons I make for every single theme...If one person buys and is disappointed, thats one too many ..but hey.. thats just me.

How to show theme elements without taking up much space... :SURPRISED:

I figured being the professionals you are, you could have figured that out instead of playing the "only have so much space" card.

Amazing the coincidence that you have dots just like we do when our promos have been our for like forever? Guess you got that idea for that on your own recently right? And please do not talk about our colors being hideous when you produce a color like that for a theme. I mean that's just weird.

We also show the 2D tabs and scrollbars in some of the screenshots: http://www.hyperdesk.com/images/products/SEFullview16.jpg that's one of a few. So your fake gripes are flawed. Anyway i have work to do.

Yeah, because you were the first to use dots in an interface Jeff..

Well, goin back to work on my GUIC conceptually flawed lesser theme, full of lesser ideas.

Don't let extremely postive comments go to my head, Don't let extremely postive comments go to my head, Don't let extremely postive comments go to my head, Don't let extremely postive comments go to my head, Don't let extremely postive comments go to my head, Don't let extremely postive comments go to my head, Don't let extremely postive comments go to my head....

I like the color. That's where Jeff and I differ - he prefers primaries, but I really dig these muted off colors... we argue this point often. Regardless, a layout like this only makes sense to skin-savvy users. I think our previews are much more exciting and will appeal to the majority of visitors. Their goal is to show the suite, not satisfy the anal demands of a demented few.

That's why noodle is the first mate on the failboat. He's not just the village idiot, he's OUR idiot.

Whether it makes sense to them or not they are still getting the opportunity to see all of the elements.

I think our previews are much more exciting and will appeal to the majority of visitors.

That's how it works when you only show the best parts of something isn't it?

I'd have to say after reading that whole long diatribe about

I'd like to think of this as a greater community. One where fellow enthusiasts and professionals should be free to pursue their passion for interface design without being shit on by their peers.

and

Like I said, we're all brothers and sisters...

you've then proceeded to make quite a few comments that basically amount to

"We think the vast majority of people are to stupid to know what they should be getting and so it doesn't matter whether or not we show them the stuff that isn't up to par."

;p

Certainly seems that way. Never a good business stance to think your customers are too dumb to know any better and thus don't deserve to see everything since "they don't know what all this is anyway."

No, what I'm saying is that these alleged 'deceptions' that keep being alluded to won't register as such to 99.99% of the people we'd like to reach, skin-enthusiasts and new users alike.
99.9% eh.. thats pretty assumptive..

..then again...I always was in the top percentile.. no wonder I noticed. Bebi.. u must be a wonderchild too. :CONGRAT:

Nope - it just never occurred to us that this kind of thing would be an issue. I still assert that it is simply a non-issue to the vast majority. We just created the previews with the same criteria we ever have. There was never any intention to deceive.
