Round 8 Details

This is an ALL VICTORY Round!!!

This Round will take place on a SMALL map with FIVE Opponents.





Since this is an ALL VICTORIES Round its setup is different than previous rounds. A Team is required to get a Victory of Each Type (Conquest, Alliance, Technological, and Influence) to receive the Base 8 points. Also, unlike 'normal' rounds, All Victory Rounds only allow for a Bonus Point for fastest game and highest scoring game in each category (so still only 8 individual bonus points available). 

At the end of this round, which will end at 11:59:59pm FORUM TIME ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30TH, 2008 we plan on holding a Draft. Setup for the Draft will be the same as before. More details will be given once Round 8 is over.

I am leaning toward randomly choosing the order of the First Round, and then proceeding in Reverse Order for the Second Round (ie 1,10; 2,9; 3,8; 4,7; 5,6). How does that sound?

How's your situation with your team. Saw your reminder/call out for Rex, thanks for that.Season Three Draft: Based on the earlier discussion in this round...Each team gets two draft picks; the rest will be randomly assigned. That way no one will know until the Draft what order they will actually be in.I know Dystopic said he was most likely sitting out next round, who else do I need to plan on not being here?

Still nothing from RexDaddy from my PMs/shout-out either here or at the Core. Lethrin did check in, and CraigHB had said he is likely sitting out next round. I've been in contact with everyone except Rex, so I think we should be allright.

Either method for the draft seems fair to me.

Apologies to all for taking so long to complete and post. My home computer has been fried and under repair for over two weeks, and I can't even get to the forum from work. This was a hasty game, and unfortunately no time to do over. Well, there's always next round...

As it stands I have commitment only from 18 players for the next round; I have 4 maybes; 4 that want to sit out; and 4 most likely no-shows/drop outs. That means 2/5 (40%) of the entire current MVL base either wants a break or is already gone; a really high percentage if you ask me.

So...on that.

I make the following proposal:

Draft proceeds as planned when the Round completes.

Once that is over, we take a short break; maybe three weeks? up to a full month; before starting back up with Season 3.

In this time frame; I would like to work with Mumble and Kryo on AltMeta.

Twilight will be out, and I would like to familiarize myself so I can include that in the MVL. And hopefully, more players too.

And we try to make sure any remaining "kinks" are worked out.

Do we risk more attrition through inactivity via a month hiatus than we'd suffer because of not taking a break? Personally, my initial instinct would be that like a shark, if the MVL stops moving it starts drowning. I'd guess those that would like a month off would be at least equally likely to return to the league for round 10 as they would for a round 9 starting at the same time, and it also seems like there is probably benefit to maintaining forum activity. My initial instict is usually wrong however. :) And if this is something the collective MVL founders agree on, that would change my opinion instantly. Does not make sense to question those that managed to bring this about in the first place!

How about a bouns round - same random setup as usual, but the round is optional, and players who do post a score add that score to their team's round 8 total?

@JustinSane4: Tech. I'm inclined to agree with you; but with only 18 players we are going to face some major shortages on teams; but thankfully that brings to my next point...

@defcon13: i like this; deserves attn. I may open up it a little; make it "special"... MVL Bonus Round; make it so you have to play as the Arceans, maybe set it up more like a Tourney. I unno, I'll mess it with a lil. I like it though.

You know I had been thinking the same thing that a break would be nice.

However I echo Justinsane's concern about getting out of the routine and then having issues starting up again.

Between the two concerns I think I would lean towards a short break as well. I would say a month break would be a good thing but make sure to schedule the restart so people know when to start checking back in.

Is there a definite date for the release of TA? If there is such an announced date then is there any chance it may be delayed? IIRC there has already been some delay in the release of TA and there's no gaurantee that there won't be more. If history is any guide further delay is likely.

I believe the concern about further attrition can only be greater if we have some vague, poorly defined date for starting back up. I feel that a very specific time for the break and for the beginning of the next round is the best. I think we should go with a month or whatever is decided but at the same time have a defined time for the beginning of next round.

Hi!
My submission for round 8. Took me awhile to finish this one. In first attempt I've missed cultural victory by about 6 weeks. In second I didn't wait for the "ultimate" warship to kick AIs' butts, but rather went with only level-3 point-defenses and advanced miniaturization. When game neared to decisive weeks, I simply spammed about 8 inluence starbases to push korx's influence back. 've again counted weeks wrong, but this time I was too cautious. Pitty, I could "milk" scores for 4 more turns...

How about a break of 2 weeks then? It gives us a bit of time, but maybe not enough for more people to want to drop out.

Upcoming Draft and Bonus Round

Once this rounds ends, we will then proceed into the Draft with all current MVL players included, even if they are going on "sabbatical" next round. The First Round order of Teams will be decided randomly and the Second Round will proceed in Reverse Order. All remaining players will then be randomly assigned to teams.

Once the Draft is completed the MVL Bonus Round will commence. It is a voluntary round. It will be similar to a normal round except that No Base Points will be counted. This means a team could have even only one player and still be able to participate. Only Bonus Points will be available. Bonus Points earned by a Team or Individual will then be counted toward the Season 3 total. As an added bonus/incentive each player that chooses to play in the Bonus Round will automatically earn 1pt to the total season score.

The Bonus Round will proceed with a time limit like that of a normal Round (one month). Round 9 will then begin.

Yea, If the bonus round is to count towards the current season it would make sense to have people contribute it to the same team they have been playing for.
