Trouble playing Multiplayer Game Online

Whenever I join a game it starts up fine, but then the network info in the menu pops up saying that everyone is disconnected except me. How do I stop this? It prevents me from playing online.

Also another issue occured in a 1v1 map online where everything stopped. I could still select things and control the camera but my economy completely stopped. My ships stopped fighting and moving. This happened to my opponent as well. It was as if the game was paused.

How do I solve these problems? It would be much appreciated because I want to play with people online? Please help!!

For the first problem:

Please download, read and follow all of my instructions in the guide I wrote Feb 14th/08 "Networking and SINS" (not the older more generic one on NAT). You can find this guide linked-to from the bottom of the "Technical FAQ".

For your second problem:

That is caused by CPU lag on the side of one or both of you. Please remember the HOST doesn't really "host" anything in a P2P-game like SINS. The host simply syncs the data between the simulations run on each and every client. So you are at the mercy of the slowest computer in the mix, and in late games with plenty of ships and econ calculations to do per second those kinds of intermittent freezes are bound to happen. I sometimes don't even watch the largest of large fleet battles (at least not very closely) because it chews-up the CPU so much. :)

Will using Windows Defender cause games to crash? It is mentioned in your guide but I am curious about what it does that causes the crashes? Thanks!

I contacted MS with my test conclusions shortly after SINS release-day, and it appears they've updated their "exceptions" to include whatever it was about SINS that Defender didn't like. I've had reports that Defender is now behaving with SINS. :) I have not however verified this, so until I do I'll leave the Defender warning in my guide.
