Serious lag in MP

I have a huge problem when I try to play a MP game, I lag a LOT and I don't have a clue where it's coming from. Even when there's running nothing else on my computer except the game, I still gat a latency of over 3k.

Anyone an idea where this might be coming from?

Haha nop, I'm using a 20k Mbit/s broadband connection :p I usualy have a latency of 30ms... So really don't know where this is coming from.

I have a similar issue. It's not as bad as yours, but I'd say my lag is around 500ms to 1 second. The problem is, this doesn't occur just on internet games, but also on LAN play. I can't think of any reason why the latency would be so high when we're all plugged into the same router.

It can't be CPU-based latency because our host is on an extremely fast dual core system with 3 GB of ram. Anybody else having LAN latency problems?

@ Iantis

The HOST does nothing but "synchronize" the data between the clients. Every client runs the entire simulation on their own machine, therefore the slowest machine in the mix will cause slowdown for everyone.

Yes, on the movie I find that it skips when I click the mouse button to dismiss it. I am sure this is common, but my lag is maybe 1.5 secs or less... more of a skip in the audio and video. I have a fast system, dual-core 2 duo 3.0ghz and a 10K raptor, Nvidia 8800GTS 2.0 526mb, etc...

I have seen this before in a few other games... anybody else confirm this issue?

Yeah the movie does weird things for me also, now and then it freezes and I have to ctrl alt delete the game and restart it.

Well the issue seems to have been resolved by itself, kinda weird. Ahh well, I can't complain, now I can finally start kicking online. :)

Thanks for the tips though!

@the_Monk : you're right, I had read that somewhere and forgot about it. Must be a problem with my computer then, since while the host is super fast, I'm on a laptop pentium-M. Sort of annoying that my computer being somewhat slower causes latency for me. Fortunately, there's no latency for the host, just on my machine.
