Hosting issues, kinda different then normal

When I host a game, the game starts, and then everyone drops. I have read the guide on NAT stuff and unlocking ports on your router. However, I am in college and playing at my dorm, I don't have a router. I can host other RTS just fine. I don't think its a firewall issue because i turned mine completely off when i was hosting. At any rate, I have no clue whats going on. I'm kinda computer-savy, but i'm not an expert, and a lot of what I have read has just confused me. As far as i can tell, most of the steps people are supposed to take to be able to host aren't applicable to me. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on a university connection and in the same boat as you. My ping is stable in the lobby, hovering around 70 or so, but as soon as the game finishes loading it locks up and my ping jumps to 1000+ms.

I've read through Monk's connectivity posts, but you're right...they don't apply to us. I think this might end up being a developer issue.

I find that I actually have a better connection here at the dorm than I do at home, and I can host just fine. I have noticed that when hosting, sometimes one player will jump up to 1000+ ping and freeze the game, but after a minute or two(if he didn't just quit) it'll drop back down and the game will go on. So maybe you just need to wait a minute or two? That might be SMS-Andro's problem. As for everyone dropping, never had that happen to me.

The biggest problem I'm having right now, is people who quit when you kill their cap ship. I try to say at the begining of the game "No quitting if just your cap ship dies" but the one game that I forget to say it, the other teams guy quits making the 2v2 a 2v1 which is not as much fun at all.

I can't play with just anyone online either, it has to be someone else on campus. So, that is one way to get around it. You can still host and play on the Sins multiplayer system, but you have to limit it to someone you know. Comp stop ftw. ;)
