Range +1 special bonus ability (setup abilites) does not appear to work on large maps. Is that because you already have it to start with (bonus for playing on large maps), or because it doesn't work?

After wiping out a minor civ I encountered a bug allowing the Yor to start a war with me without cause and without a notification window from them. It seems that the Yor were at war with this minor civ as well, and one of their battle cruisers was already on its way to attack the final world of the minor civ when I captured it. A few turns after this capture the Yor cruiser attacked the planet and some battle axes I had in orbit. This did not cause the “We're going to war with you” notification window to appear. I only discovered that I was at war with the Yor after hearing and seeing an explosion briefly, then going to the foreign policy screen for confirmation. I had saved the game one turn previously, and decided to do some testing to see if I couldn't get around the bug (the Yor were the most powerful civ as well as my largest trading partner, so this was a big deal). By moving my battle axes out of orbit of the planet I could avoid the Yor attack and thus war. The battle cruiser stayed by the undefended planet for about ten turns, then seemed to lose interest and moved away. I moved the battle axes back and haven't had any more problems since. The Yor were on the Intelligent setting.

i'm using 1.02.049 and i'm having a problem where late game the autopilot stops working. i can set destinations for things, but they don't move in between turns. i can fix it by restarting the client, but it comes back in that save game after a couple turns. i have a ton of things on autopilot, so it may be overloaded in some way. i'm playing on a large map.

here's the savegame i'm using (yeah i should start a new game when i'm dominating this hard. i just wanted to see the later techs, OK?)

http://www.cs.ucr.edu/~gnick/galciv/

i included the .sav file and the directory with the same name. i'm hoping that's all that is needed to replicate my bug.

I've had the same problem as Volsung. In fact, when it happened, it pretty much cost me the game.

I seem to be missing the graphics for the Ranger ships. I build some and they worked fine my last game. Since the patch, I build a ranger - but I just get a "ghost ship" the graphics are missing both in the build queue and the galaxy map. By the point I had ranger tech I was in the good skin if that makes any difference. I wouldn;t care so much, but it's impossible for me to select the "ghost rangers" I have to pick them up with the find button. Damage graphic dows display on them, but nothing else. What gives?

Already reported in http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=42311 But it still exists in new version:

[ps this might not be a bug, but it is strange the least]

In my last game (version 1.01) I had a huge tech advantage and decided to totally halt my research and start spending my money on military items. The next turns I saw the research graph take a deep dive to almost 0, while I am sure I still had all the best techs. I think the research graph shows how much each empire is spending, while it (imho) should show the technology levels of the various empires.

I am not sure if the other graphs are effective representations of the current game status.

I just experienced a pretty dramatic bug with the latest version (downloaded this morning -- 4/18): I just won a cultural victory, and as the cinematic started, I hit escape. It brought me immediately to the desription of the culture victory, but superimposed on it was the continuing game screen (namely, the research acquired screen).

Every time I hit escape to get to the main menu, I could go back to the game, and for a moment, I was back into the game, and not at the victory screen. It lasted about half a second, and then the victory screen was once again superimposed over the game screen. During that time period, I was able to slowly click out of everything that happens at the beginning of the turn (build orders, research orders, news, etc), until I was to the ship-move phase. Once there, I was finally able to click Done on the victory screen, and move to the Metaverse screen. The metaverse screen was fine -- so superimposition.

However, when I got back to the opening menu screen (with the starbase and cinematic), it was also superimposed over my continuing game. I had to quit out of the game, and restart my computer, in order to get the superimposition to turn off.

With the latest level (1.02.049) my constructors de-orbit from planets that defected to me on top of the ships that were de-orbited from that planet when the planet defected. This makes it very difficult to find and select a specific ship if it is in the "foreign" stack. This is also a changed behavior from previous levels.
Re: deorbiting ships onto tiles with foreign ships, I just had this happen with a ship from a planet that I colonized. All of these de-orbits onto tiles occupied by foreign ships so far have been autolaunches.

At the end of the game, after the final video has played, when I'm looking through the statistics, when I click the "Social" tab I get a crash to desktop. The final lines of debug.err are:

Debug Message: Destroying ship BattleAxe 266. Orbiting: 0
Debug Message: Destroying ship BattleAxe 165. Orbiting: 0
Debug Message: Preparing to change display settings.

Game was played with Altarians and Drengi, both at the beginner level, happened after playing small universe and medium universe, I was Federalist in both cases, victory was conquest, achieved through influence rather than invasion.

OS is Win2K SP3, with with all patches from MS Update as of 4/16 installed. Hardware is Athlon Thunderbird, KT266 Soyo Dragon Plus motherboard, using onboard sound, video is ATI Radeon 8500DV All-In-Wonder with Catalyst 3.2 drivers.

This problem was not observed playing Galciv with just the Expansion Pack and associated patches, but was observed with version 1.02.049.

When working with the military governor, if I specify that planets producing "nothing" instead produce a ship of some type, nothing happens. This happens out of the box with the expansion installed and with 1.02.049.

I pick +1 range in start of game in my stat's and see no differents in the ships range to the basic stat's of the ship's. :p

I declared peace with the Dengin empire (excuse spelling) but their ships continued attacking immediately after hitting the turn button i.e. next turn. Thought I read there was a fix that fixed this problem? I lost a starbase and a colony ship. Plays taps on keyboard ;)

Just letting you know ... I love/hate this game... Love playing it but hate loosing to it.

This afternoon I completed a game: I won by alliance victory but the summary text that came up was for cultural victory. I assume this was because the game would have been a cultural victory except for the fact there had been a 3-way alliance against the Tor and Drengin keeping me at war permanently. This prevented cultural victory but allowed immediate alliance victory as soon as the final Drengin planet surrendered.

Second observation, which I don't know if someone else has already noted: the cutscene for a system conquest now shows the wrong movie. It is now showing the same cutscene as when a faction is eliminated. It used to show the neat movie of you moving in a bunch of ships against an alien city.

GC .049 crashes on Winning summary screen when I click on Social. I have the game saves the very turn before the win if anyone wants it emailed.

Major Class B bug that i just noticed and don't know if it's been reported yet.

Shipyards/Advanced Damage Control/etc do nothing! Well, almost, if you build them on a planet, any ships that are newly created will get the bonus (to attack at least, they don't get anything for HP and i forgot to check defense) but if you save the game and then load it they lose the bonus!

So shipyards and other starship improving social projects are only usefull if you use the ships you build before the next time you quit and load the game again.

The Drengin demanded 930 bc for 0 months for me as payment for not stomping me. I accepted. Now things are screwy.

Under my domestic policy screen in the economic section it shows me paying 10bc per month in tribute, even though the Drengin's demand was the first I had recieved in the game (it was for 0 months). My income says I am recieving 0 bc in tribute from other civs, which is correct. But in the stats screen for my civ, in the economy section, it says I am recieving 128bc per turn in tribute, even though I am not. That number also just happens to be identical to my total income (128). In the expenses section right above it, my tribute payment is listed as 4294967280 bc. :notsure:

Saved game available if needed.

Hello,

This is halfway between a bug and a suggestion so I thought I would post in both threads. Anyway, I noticed that when you conquer the final planet of another race it plays a nice cut scene, but if you also did other things that create popup windows like inherit a tech from the colony you just conquered then it puts the popup over the cut scene and plays the popup’s music mixed in with the cut scene’s music. This most likely occurs since this cut scene was added later. I remember one time when I used Mass Drivers on one colony I had the Tech notice and the Planet Damage notice popup over the cut scene. Even after closing the popups their music was still playing until I got out of the cut scene. I suggest changing it so that the cut scene plays on its own without mixing with any popups and only after it is closed having the popups occur. If this already has been addressed in the latest patch I apologize.

Thank you.

I'm not sure if this has been reported or not I've not gone through all the bug reports here.

In my most recent game I was being butchered by the Drengin. They were at war with every other civilization and were winning them all, There military graph line was a 50 degree angle straight up dispite the large amounts of damage I'm sure all the civilizations were dealing to them. Before I was finally distroyed I happened to check my espionage reports on them and discovered that they were spending huge amounts of cash in an extensive deficit spending program - It added up to 35,000+ BC per turn on research, military, and Social production, which isn't a huge deal, except their treasury was at -274,000 BC. Considering my production stops when I hit a debt of 500 BC, I thought it might be a bug.

Its the first time that its happened, and I've been patched for a while now, so I've no clue how it happened, just thought I'd mention it.

Is this the only thread that has SE reports? I have looked through what I could find in this thread for one similar to the one I just got and did not find one. May I suggest a separate thread just for crashes?

This one happened rather abruptly, and I wasn't exactly paying attention to what was going on at the time. What I remember is pressing the "turn" key (autoturn = off) and the start of the research completion GNN. Then it crashed. I hadn't even had time to get the pointer over the "done" button and I can't remember what researh project was completed.

I am sending a note to Cari with the SE report and the debug file (I didn't see anything in the debug file that looked unusual).

Altered suggestion on the trade slider....

I've figured out how it works, and why it confuses me.

The movement of the slider is linear. That means that it's hard to zero in on the necessary number if that number is, say, 9, while the empire I'm trading with has 2398 credits, because 9 is wayyy over on the left and the last jump goes from 23 to 0.

Suggestion:

Make the slider progression a bell curve, such that the "acceptable" solution is near the middle of the sider bar. Have the rate of change be smallest when nearest to the acceptable solution and larger as the slier approaches the ends of the bell curve.

Moving the solution point near the middle ensures the player can always click on either side of it. Scaling the shift as the slider's button moves enables the player to click to the left and right and get shifts of 1 point when near the solution.

Bug when using the info warfare invasion option, version 1.02.049:

I invaded a Drengin world with 5B marines; there were about 20B people on it. My attack ratio was something like 22:7 and I had the cash, so I paid (2200?) for the info warfare option and got 2B people to rise up and fight their oppressors with the marines. I won with roughly 1.1B people left.

BUT... when I left the invasion screen, the system showed some kind of overflow for the population - several thousand billion people. The next turn, error checking cut in and the world reverted to 100B people (and slowly dropped from there, plus I used it to build a bunch of combat transports).

For some reason, I am able to build any trade good/galactic achievement over and over again in any star system. I can have a political, economic and manufacturing capital on every planet I own. I go to the details screen for a planet, click on the governor(always at the top, the name of my government), then I go to the priority list, put it at the top, press back, and I can build whatever I chose. I think this should be taken out, but I also think that your best planet should be able to build all of the goods and galactic achievements later in the game.
