Newbie Help

Yeah, I'm lost

Alright, I picked up SoSE , did the tutorials, etc...and I have a few questions.

a) Why is it that it seems like my capital is the only planet that ever shores out a decent amount of resources? I can't seem to get any other planets to give somewhat close to the amount of credits...even if I upgrade my other planets, they're giving like maybe +1 or +2 credits/second compared to +12 or so on my capital. Hell, even the metal/crystal mines seem to be more lucrative.

b) how important are static defenses? Can pirates raid your inner systems, or just the outer ones?

c) So I'm focusing mainly on Advent right now. Anything specific I should know about them?

d) How important are refineries/trade? By the time I get access to those, most of my logistics slots are taken up by research buildings, even if I upgrade

e) Where do I put downloaded replays? More specifically, can anyone link me to some good replays to check out?

Thank ya.

Hi Demonic, giving Company of Heroes a Rest?  ;)

Planet income depends on type of planet. You usually start on a Terran planet which is the best, the other types of planets do not support as large a population as a Terran one. Upgrading infrastructure will increse population and in turn increase income. Also if you are TEC you can upgrade the max population Terran, Desert and Ice planets can support. I am not too sure about the other two races/

Pirates always raid the closest target usually and rarely bypass a system. Static as in 'shooting' turrets are bad their 'denial' area is relatively small and can be bypassed. Hanger defences are always the best as they can send their fighters/bombers throughout the whole planet.

Advent? Fights and Bombers, nuff said    Also, use abilities of umm, i think they are called Iconus Guardians very useful for fleet survival. The ability of the Progenitor Mothership is nasty as well, can't think of the name of the ability off the top of my head though.

Advent are very much the 'culture' race, using it to decrease income of the holdings of other players and causing planets to even go neautral. The advent building is special, it can switch between being a refinary or a trading post, so use it to bolster either metal/crystal income or to increase credit income. Only use them if the game passes or will pass the 1 hour mark, earlier than that, resources would be better spent elsewhere.

Don't know about replays sorry.

Have fun!

Alright...

So the Advent fighters/bombers are better than the other races? That's good, Ilove using them.

How does culture work? Do you just build it in one system and watch it expand? What if there are nothing but uncolonizable nebulas and stuff between your and his planets?

Cultural beacons build loyalty and hence output. The stronger your culture(loyalty) the higher your income and mining rates. Build the cutural beacons and trade posts especially in medium maps on up. Don't know how to make use of replays either. Anyone know?

I haven't tried a replay, but I'd recommend saving one of your own, finding the folder it's in, and then downloading the replay into that folder.

Isn't that your Allegiance stat?

Isn't that your Allegiance stat?

Ya, that's it. The maximum it goes to depends on the distance from your home world. However, other players who use these can cause the allegiance on your planet to fall. Rates vary by map also. The Gaia map is horrible for this and I don't play it.

I put up two broadcast centers and it was only raised 10%.. I thought it was 10% each?

And how do you use culture if he doesn't have any planets adjacent to you?

The trick with Advent is you /need/ to boost up the fleet's OP shield tech to the max, while also getting the metal upgrades. The TEC are awesome at getting credits/metal, the Advent Crystal, but endgame on bigger maps with credits as well. I've not fiddled with Vasari very much though, meh.

Your maximum allegiance is capped at 35% until you get the two ups that cap it at 45% for Advent.

Static defenses mean the difference between a pirate raid being contained until a backup fleet arrives, or the buccaneers flattening that hard won planet easily. Cover all possible entries and overlap where you see trade ships arrive at. Also, build repair stations to keep the turrets alive longer. Another thing is always always always build 2 hangers as advent, 3 fighters, 3 bombers will defeat or stave off most attacks long enough for backup to arrive.

Explore all your planets and exploit the riches found there, if you find something that gives you a 20% bonus to trade income, then the only logistical building is going to be trade outposts. if you get the high security protocol, then don't build any there really, build other needed buildings to keep the empire fueled.

As Advent I like to rely on a combination of static defenses and Drone Cruisers to guard systems that are at risk.

For static defenses, I usually go for two Repair Stations and then see how many Hangers I can fit around them. Advent have a couple upgrades for their Hangers to increase the number of ships in each squadron that can increase their potency. After I fill up on Hangers I just put in however many Turrets I can fit before I run out of slots. Sometimes later in game I'll sometimes throw in an Anti-Matter recharger to help things, but it isn't all that necessary.

But for mobile defenses, Advent Drone Cruisers are very cheap in Crystal compared to the other two factions, literally basically half the Crystal cost. They're still more expensive than Hangers since they only hold one Fighter/Bomber wing, three Drone Cruisers cost something like 150% the cost of a single Hanger, but they're very flexible. You can keep a group hanging around the edge of the gravity well and Phase Jump if things go bad, or just have them hanging around between the two Repair Stations (which together make any units inside very hard to kill). For a system under heavy raids by Pirates having a good half a dozen Drone Frigates can really help, I also usually put a Capital Ship wherever the Pirates like to attack, Pirate raids really help Capital Ships level up and many get very potent once they get to level 5 or 6.
