No on online?

I signed on to ICO for my first MP game today, and it told me there were only 72 players online and no games to be seen. I don't know if that's normal and people just aren't playing online or what, but it seems very low.

The join list only shows games that are available to join--those that have already begun are not shown.

That, and it's morning still in the US. Most people are probably at work/school right now.

I doubt Sins has the same player base as BF2 or COD4. I would like to see some sale figures though, just out of curiosity.

That really should be changed so it lists all games, full/started or not. It is not unreasonable to state that a player who sees 100 full servers is going to think a game is more popular (and thus could be worth trying again) than if he only sees 20 full servers, and doesn't even know about the 80 other ones which were full...

It used to list all games, but we had too many complaints so we took active games out :)

I haven't played the game yet, but I am planning on getting it today.

I'm assuming this is more of a "geek game" which means the player base will be smaller. By "geek game" I mean a game that requires more brain power than a traditional FPS multiplayer game.

Sure, it's just that only 70 people online seemed rather...small. I am hoping to play this mostly with my friends (I have already gotten 2 of them addicted :p), but can't always do that. From the amount of forum traffic it seemed like it would be bigger.

There have been 300-400 on most evenings. Like I said, it's early in the day and people are at work.

In the evening (Eastern USA/Canada time), I have never seen less than 300 people listed in the lobbies.

The problem, for me, was more that a lot of them seemed too shy to host new games -- especially games explicitly for newbies.

My guess is that since the game has been released less than 2 weeks ago, most people are newbies -- especially when it comes to on-line MP (which is my case).

One type of solution is to try to connect with (apparently) trustworthy forum users to plan newbie games from this forum, instead of wasting time in the ICO lobby (negotiating with total strangers). That approach has worked for me.

maybe thats why my i keep getting newbies in my intermediate games. the room is labeled with Intermediate yet people with anywhere from there first game online to only 3 games online keep trying to join, even though i warn them I'm starting to feel bad beating up newbies =(
