Best NON-Open Maps?

I'm deciding to abandon my current "open map game" for now. below is image of it. it is called "Systems Of War".

Maybe I should have gone with a more novice map for my first game. But Systems Of War looked cool, so I went with it.

Anyone have suggestions for maps with less access for the AI? I want some privacy in my system until I decide to attack THEM.

use the map creation tool.Forgot its name...
The one from inside the game, the random creation one, it can make it so that you have very little phase lanes and as a result its less open.

the custom map generator is fun, once you realize how to fiddle with the sliders.

ive made myself a 6 player 2 star system map which has about 90 planets =P.

lol, i tried using the random map generator to make a custom 4 player map, i dont know what slider i accidently messed up but we all started out with 2 planets all connected to a central sun...problem was the phase lane to the sun was so long it took about 15 minutes for a fleet to traverse it. Suffice to say i surrendered pretty quick  :p

I just got done with a game on System of War...it is pretty private. Each AI starts in another solar system, and there is a massive one in the center your supposed to fight over.

I got mauled. Hard map.

I believe the slider at the very top (galaxy size) determines just how big each system is. if not, play around with the other slides.

try systems of war 2v2. A lot easier. I've been playign since about 6 hours and I think we got it locked up. They JUST started doing piddly raids into my home system and I caught 3 of their caps in the grav well and just blew one up when I caught it as they destroyed one of the asteroids...which was no big deal. Had 2 colony ships there. They deployed 15 seconds after it got knocked off.

Fun stuff. Pretty sure we got the middle locked down. Key is win all the pirate bids no matter what it costs, and lots of carriers in your home grav well. 6 + sova kept them out till about an hour ago. Just added 15 more and 4 caps to home defense.

I like Kronac's Cross.

cool, will do. thx.

The thing to remember with it, is that if you get arctic colonization quickly you can more or less secure a little area of 4 planets for yourself. There are three entrances to your little empire, but the pirates always use the same one, and you can more or less guess which enemy is going to use which side of the other two.

Game works best 2v2 as an ally is in the direction of one of your flanks, so you just have two planets to watch out for. Set a nifty capital combo at the pirate-entrance, and your main fleet towards the other enemy, and you are set for turtling and research and whatever.

Lacks metal though.

Only downside is that the map can be over quickly if you try to do it. I said i use it for testing things, i usually test against the pirates because everyone else is dead=P
