No sound... except intro movies

I have a creative E-MU 1212M sound card with windows XP. Sound works fine in the intro movies, but all is silent once the menu screen appears. No music, no effects, no UI sounds, nothing. Sound works fine in other games and applications. If I run dxdiag and set my soundcard to "no acceleration," the sound works fine. Any other setting and I get the above problem.

ye, having sound problems too.
i have them at the ingame sound effects, but the music keeps playing.
kind of sucks, cuz now space looks so empty and quiet:)
