Dipping a Toe into Multiplayer

I started SINS in Beta 3.

When it comes to gaming, I play a lot, but I spread my time around. A game like SINS takes me a long time to get comfortable playing. I have to be honest, I have not even tried Multiplayer. Here's Why:

I am afraid that I'll be working real hard at it, finally sending my first colony ship to that asteroid over there when a MONSTER fleet of 500 ships sent by Ron Lugge, Lord Kosk, or Multianna crushes me under heel.

Does anyone else struggle with multiplayer inferiority issues, or is it just me? Is there support for this problem?

I'm a new player, but I'm VERY intimidated by multiplayer, and don't see myself trying it for a while. I'm intimidated by two main factors; the amount of knowledge and experience people have on these forums and the amount of time it takes to play a game. It seems like you need to set a day aside to play a good full multiplayer game (without saving and returning, of course).

I can speak only for myself, but if you're in a game with me and you let me know you're just starting out, I'd be more than happy to work with you a bit and not just overrun you ;)

Sadists all of you, feigning mercy before the vicious kill. :p

DoctorJ, it might be more beneficial to you if it ends quickly that way you can get the replay watch it and learn rather than get some half-arsed experience. You know you're new and you know you're scared, go conquer it! :p

Play on set teams where you have allies to depend on, that will help a lot. Also, now is the time to be playing multiplayer, as everyone is new. After 5 matches I have run into a lot of players who are worse then me, and I absolutely suck at strategy games, not to mention I have only played one single player game prior to multi.

In a few weeks, peoples strategy's will be set, and you will have a much harder time in multiplayer then you would now
