Roleplay MOD!!! ^.^

I've loved playing Roleplaying maps on games such as Starcraft, where epic RP was possible but not savable. Wouldnt it be amazing to make a mod for Roleplayers? Or even just a D&D like game modding the levels and thier effects on the ships. Heres some of my ideas.

Open Roleplay mode: Evryone is able to create things at will to represent what they want in the RP. Of course a ban option would be avaliable to the host or by a majority vote.

Structured Roleplay mode: The host or a person voted into the position is able to spawn things for players, and take things away. If you've played God's Land, it could be sort of like this.

D&D Style: There is one or two Dungeon Masters, and they create the story for the plays who either control a single modded ship or a small fleet, and work together to complete the missions set out by the DM's.

With the moddability of this game, I think its a distinct possiblity, I guess we'll see and if modders are able to back it to the point of existence.

A roleplaying mod would be very interresting for me too. But I woul'd not be sure, that it's possible to set one player as a "god" who can do anything he wants, like putting ships enywhere, take them away and so on. And that would request you to play multiplayer and find others who want to play exactly this mod at this time... so a singleplayer version would be better, where it's like "storybased" and you get ships for fullfilling tasks and maybe sometimes have just a fleet and no planet and so on.

ya, it would take alot of work, but if u really put the effort in, you could make sins into a game like freelancer...
except with more then just fighters and battleships :P

You could set a "God" player by just adding it as a race, or just add the abilitys to all the races depending on how you want it to be constructed.

Even right now you have to find people in IRC to get a game going, becuase the games last a LONG time and usually you want to be able to continue those longer games which is what Roleplaying will be to the extreme. Roleplayers tend to play with the same group of people for a long time at intervals even more so than normal Sin games. Thank god for the save feature, its even easier.

I was hoping that, when you said roleplaying, you meant actually roleplaying the races. For instance not just going to war for no reason, but because they sent their ships into something you regard as 'sacred ground' or something.

That would be roleplying you won't need any mods for. ^^

You kinda need a 'DM client' to do all that..

Maybe a starting base thats invisible and indestructible, no fog of war, and the ability to create/destroy anything, send messages from any source (assume the role of a ship and send msgs to players from it so it's as if the ships captain is saying something to the player?).. tons of stuff you need to be able to do.

not sure any game is THAT moddable.

This sort of thing has killed a couple titles I've played in the past (Jedi Academy, anyone?). I don't think it's a good idea or possible.

I doubt this game could be rp'ed very well, it is in space after all, and although role playing a ship..... maybe a Pimp My Peon mod, AWESOME for this.

Don't say this game can't be rp'ed unless you've played Stacraft O.O, and all that even needed was a map that was customizable to an insane degree thanks to the map editor. If the modding ability is present than it will work as long as the player base who would utilize it is there.

Except there aren't any trigger-based maps, and no way to make them.

You know. This just makes me think of having an RPG game within the Sins game.

Think about it. The AI empires already provide a perfect platform for a dynamic universe setting that go on about their daily business.

Something like Space Rangers 2! Imagine that in Sins skin. Mmm!

If the game were modded right, a Mount & Blade-ish game where the player owns and runs a personal fleet in the middle of the big galactic war could be pretty fun. It'd take a lot of work, including the creation of NPCs for all sides, the ability to build and maintain ships, etc. But on some of the bigger, multi-system maps, an RPG mod for Sins could be a truly grand thing.

If anyone is seriously considering doing this, I wouldn't mind writing for it.

and then after about a half year of modding u find out ur making kind of a remake of eve

or whats that procedural generating game where u can actualy enter the planets atmosphere and stuff that'll be released in like a year called again?

Following that logic, there's no point in making a Star Wars mod for Sins, because Empire at War is already out, or any other mod since a real company will make a similar game some day.

I'm actually sort of wondering the point of making a Star Wars mod for Sins in the first place anyway for that exact reason. If it's going to be a franchise-fest, I'd rather see the ones underrepresented as existing games be modded in. Also note that you're going to need at least a mod team of 8 to get a mod active and running, with all the proposed mods out there, I certainly doubt that will be the case and most will simply fade into obscurity like EaW's did.

It can be worth it to make a Star Wars mod if the engine you're modding with is better than the existing games dedicated to that franchise.
