Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

For the Collector's Edition

Sins of a Solar Empire comes in two forms:

Standard Edition ($39.95) which is what is available at retail.

and

Collector's Edition ($49.95) which is available direct as well as certain retailers (I think Fry's is one).

So what's the difference?

The Collector's Edition box includes the following bonus items:

  • a foldout tech-tree poster
  • artwork posters
  • a hotkey card
  • a music CD

For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release).  Since there's less physical materials, it's $5 less than the actual boxed version.

If you decide later you want the boxed unit, you can order that for $5 plus the cost of shipping and handling.

Also Collector's Edition users will receive the Sins of a Solar Empire MyColors theme:

Users who didn't buy the Collector's Edition will be able to seperately purchase the digital content starting in late February.

If you buy the game directly from us, you are getting the Collector's Edition (pre-order, beta tester, etc.). It is the only version of the game we sell digitally or box.

If you have any questions, ask them here.

I bought it at the store a few weeks ago, without knowing that I could've had the music for 10 dollars more. Is there a way to get the music after the fact?

In the Dowload Updates i see MP3 files and artwork (other than the 1.3 update ) but not the techtree nor the hotkey card. Any help?

Thanks, Gerry

Hello,

After the positive review from Max pc I might purchase the game. One of the benefits of purchaseing the downloaded version is that I don't need to have the game disk in the drive to play. The benefit of the boxed version is that I get paper directions instead of having to ctrl alt of the game to read directions. The question I have is if I purchase the box version will I need to have the cd in the computer to play?

I know it says you only sell the collectors edition directly, but will that always be the case? I'd like to buy the game direct, but I dont really care about the bonus collectors edition content. I'm a student (with basically 0 income), so $40 vs. $45 is enough of a difference to make me want to buy retail.

Seeing as how you must surely make way less than $40 from retail copies, is there any plan to offer the standard edition direct (even at the same $40 price)? Seems like a lost revenue opportunity, when people like me are pushed to go buy retail to save a few bucks.

If i want to buy a retail normal edition,is there anyway for me to get the soundtrack?

Just a thought, is it possible to get the Sins theme on it's own through wincustomize or whatever?

Also can anyone tell me what the Vista icon for Sins looks like cause the demo has a ugly gamebox picture for an icon. I hope the full version has a good looking one for the Games Explorer.

Mine has the game box shot too.Is that ugly?

With the boxed version you don't need the DVD in the drive to play. It's no different than buying it online.

As of now there's no way if you buy the standard box that one can upgrade to the CE (and get the Sins theme keycard, tech tree, soundtrack, etc.). You'd have to buy the CE box, which was (and may still be) available at Fry's and Amazon (as well as directly from Stardock).

For those who didn't get the CE, the MyColors Sins theme can be purchased here:

Will the physical collector's edition material ever be available for purchase separately? As in, I pay money and have the posters, cd, etc mailed to me.

Well.. The MyColors theme is extremely unstable, at least on my system. But that's no big suprise, I've had the same troubles before with Stardock products.

As soon as I installed the Sins theme IE7 and Explorer froze multiple times then WMP11 disappeared and I had to end the processes in Task Manager. Pretty much made Windows unusable even immediately after reboots.

Worst of all when I try to get rid of the Sins theme by applying Vista Desktop it leaves behind corrupted windows files (imageres.dll) so I cannot get rid of the Sins icons. My Hard Drive and Live Folder icons are broken and I don't know how to fix them.

I suppose I should have realised that the theme included icons and stuff and wasn't just a simple WindowBlind skin that might have worked properly by itself.

I tried using IconPackager but it still can't replace the default Vista icons properly, now my only recourse is a Windows reinstall and probably to give Microsoft a call if I want my icons back... Thanks alot.

Good for applying a new theme but always fails at getting back defaults.

Just got my Collectors edition and it's really nicely made with a good box and all and I really like the posters. Definitely one of the best presented special edition box sets I've seen.

Haven't tried any of the extra content except the soundtrack CD.

Overall I'm really pleased I bought it. Well I don't even have a choice really, being in the UK means theres no other box version!

I want the CD, how can I just buy that?

Go to the store. Buy from Amazon.

You can also request a retail box if you buy on-line from Stardock. You can wait for it to show up in the mail. No one says you have to use the downloadable option (but you can).

"Click Download Updates from the main menu ingame. That will take you to a page with 3 download links. The first (the Bonus Pack) is included in the download, so no need to download that one. The other 2 are the Collectors Edition content."

if i do that.. it opens impulse.. thats all...

i see nowhere to download the content(music, fold out tree)

the only thing i received already is the my colors skin(over impulse)

any ideas?

(i bought Sins of a Solar Empire (Digital Download)

couldn't figure it out
Bonuspack is the Stardock codeword for patch :P
Reply #146 Top
They call it a Bonus Pack because they usually implement new features that aren't in the original release. Marketing for teh win!

I purchased the regular retail version several months ago. Will I be able to download the PDF Techtree and Hotkey Card, with or without costs?
The CE extras are not currently available to owners of the standard retail version.
Thanks...
Is it possible to purchase items as paid downloads? Or do I have to buy the CE package?
I've been told by Stardock support that only the CE editions at Walmart have the MyColors Theme. Since I bought my copy of CE at EB Games, I'm not entitled and I'll have to purchase it.

So the initial post needs to be modified.
