Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

For the Collector's Edition

Sins of a Solar Empire comes in two forms:

Standard Edition ($39.95) which is what is available at retail.

and

Collector's Edition ($49.95) which is available direct as well as certain retailers (I think Fry's is one).

So what's the difference?

The Collector's Edition box includes the following bonus items:

  • a foldout tech-tree poster
  • artwork posters
  • a hotkey card
  • a music CD

For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release).  Since there's less physical materials, it's $5 less than the actual boxed version.

If you decide later you want the boxed unit, you can order that for $5 plus the cost of shipping and handling.

Also Collector's Edition users will receive the Sins of a Solar Empire MyColors theme:

2008-01-31_0059[1]

Users who didn't buy the Collector's Edition will be able to seperately purchase the digital content starting in late February.

If you buy the game directly from us, you are getting the Collector's Edition (pre-order, beta tester, etc.). It is the only version of the game we sell digitally or box.

If you have any questions, ask them here.

https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/upgrade.aspx

When I goto the page and login I see a download for:

Sins of a Solar Empire Bonuspack (v1.05)
Released: May 21, 2008     Size: 16.6 MB

When I click to download it says the file is no longer there.  Has the download been moved?  Is this even the correct file?

I have the Sins MyColors Download in Impulse, so I'm assuming I have the CE.  Is the download from Stardock.

Same problem.  Except I am at https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/update (not .../upgrade). I know the CE physical box is out of stock, but that's no reason to stop the downloads surely?

The bonuspack was just a patch. If you have the game via Impiulse, you have version 1.16 and no need for the bonus pack.

I have the Kalypso edition (I live in Denmark) where I got both the hotkeys and the tech tree poster, you said that the mycolors theme would only be available from you or walmart, but I got that anyway too (dunno how, it just showed up inmy content). Would there be any way at all for me to get the music without buying the full priced collectors edition?

Great game by the way, and I LOVE the music.

Try going to https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/update.aspx and log in on the right hand side with your account that has the Sins registration. If you can download the music cd, it'll be other.

Otherwise, most of what's on the disk is in .ogg format in your Sins install path, there are a bunch of players that can play those.

That was just an old relic patch. Any CE content shows up there as well, so that must mean your serial # isn't a CE.

Unfortunately, they've also sold out of CE boxes back in March or April (April I think).

You still have the music from the install :) That's most of it!

Will it be cheaper to get collector's after i already got the regular sins + regular entrenchment?

Regarding the music CD.  I would really like to get it.  I purchased retail SINS and purchased and downloaded Entrenchment, can I at some point download this CD?  I think this should be available to anyone who has purchased the game.  Especially since the music CD is just an extra, and not a retail product by itself.  Thanks.

I'd be willing to buy the soundtrack and the artwork, for say $5 USD.  I ended up grabbing the game at retail after missing the impulse sale a couple weeks ago ($20 at retail).

I have seen in addition to the standard SINS a Game Of The Year Edition (specifically at Best Buy); what difference is there from the standard and Collectors' Editions at retail?  The reason I am asking is because it's the same price as the standard edition and if the GOTY also includes additional features, I'd certainly recommend it over the *standard edition.

The original Sins box is slowly being discontinued and replaced with the GotY box.  The GotY SKU basically has many of the same goodies that the original Collector's Edition box had, with the major difference being that it's just a newer version of Sins on the game DVD (v1.16).

Will there be a disc-based expansion pack?  Though Impulse works fine for updates, I'm not sure that the absence of detrimental copy protection features is as much of an advantage, if the full version of the game is download-only.

If the expansions are to be released on disc, when?  As the expansion plans seem to have been finalised, would it be possible to have a disc-based game version that also entitles the owner to both micro-expansions via Impulse?  If this isn't possible, I'd still buy a second copy of the game if Entrenchment was included, as it could easily be another six months before the second expansion.  This might help to unify multiplayer- wasn't the original scheme to have all three expansions completed and on a disc by summer 2009?

The box for the Amazon uk 'Expansion Pack' release has been revealed and it seems to be the GOTY copy.  Though the text suggests that an expansion is included, this 2009 GOTY edition is just v1.16 of the original game?

As the 18-month old original game is on offer at £11, the GOTY version at £26 would seem to be a tad overpriced without having any additional content?  I had hoped that the GOTY version would have Entrenchment, and I'd have paid what would still have been a premium rate.  It seems this is to be a wasted opportunity?  I'd be happier that there was no GOTY version at all if it is just v1.16... I have to say that the marketing side and the splitting of multiplayer is a hindrance to the game.  Why not include Entrenchment, its no longer in a roughened form?
