Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

For the Collector's Edition

Sins of a Solar Empire comes in two forms:

Standard Edition ($39.95) which is what is available at retail.

and

Collector's Edition ($49.95) which is available direct as well as certain retailers (I think Fry's is one).

So what's the difference?

The Collector's Edition box includes the following bonus items:

  • a foldout tech-tree poster
  • artwork posters
  • a hotkey card
  • a music CD

For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release).  Since there's less physical materials, it's $5 less than the actual boxed version.

If you decide later you want the boxed unit, you can order that for $5 plus the cost of shipping and handling.

Also Collector's Edition users will receive the Sins of a Solar Empire MyColors theme:

2008-01-31_0059[1]

Users who didn't buy the Collector's Edition will be able to seperately purchase the digital content starting in late February.

If you buy the game directly from us, you are getting the Collector's Edition (pre-order, beta tester, etc.). It is the only version of the game we sell digitally or box.

If you have any questions, ask them here.

Sins will be published under Auran in Australia.

Incidentally, I recently read that Auran was in a bad way, having downsized a whole lot of employees, and may indeed be dissolved. Does anyone have any information on this?
Wait, it's actually being published down here? I called up EB and they don't even have Sins listed in their computers.

Is there an ETA on the Australia release date by Auran?

As for Auran in Australia, I am only aware of their development side being dropped/layed off. As for their distribution side I am unsure. The only Aussie retailer that I have seen with a release date is Games Warehouse. They have it listed as the 18th April. WWW Link

I pre-ordered my copy (Download and Box Copy) through Stardock so I could avoid that painful wait.. and also to get the Collectors Edition. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a shiny box and extra goodies.
How much did shipping end up costing you?

I think they said the extra content would be made available 'some time' after release?

I just bought the collectors edition digital only. How do I download the extra content?

It'll be posted tomorrow.

None have been said to have it aside from Fry's so far.

Hi fellow Sinners, I'm somewhat confused. I bought the beta 2 at Stardock's some months ago for 5 tokens. Can I now download the extra Collector's Edition-materials?

Great!

Where exactly is the download link?

Click Download Updates from the main menu ingame. That will take you to a page with 3 download links. The first (the Bonus Pack) is included in the download, so no need to download that one. The other 2 are the Collectors Edition content.

One Question to the SD/IC Devs, the MyColors theme included in the DVD collectors edition, will that also be made available for digital download, or is that only for the boxed edition.

Hoping for a reply on the MyColors theme as well. I saw a screenshot of it, and must have it. Must. Must...

Thanks!

Click download updates from the ingame main menu. :) that will take you to the download location. The bonus pack isn't required (its included in the download already) the other 2 items are CE content.

@Judas: There are two beautiful advertisment posters in the CE content zipfiles aswell. :)

I'm wondering if I stumbled onto a glitch or something:

I bought Sins via Stardock Central and joined one of the more recent Beta (2 or 3?). Played for awhile, drifted to other games, and fast foward to last weekend when I learned that the game was released. So I uninstalled my Beta copy and downloaded and installed 1.02 via Stardock Central.

When I went to play multiplayer via Ironclad Online. I logged in using my Beta information, and when it asked me for a serial, I had Stardock Central email me my info. It showed me the serial from Beta, so I used it, and it worked. No problems.

Today, I got a copy of Sins Collector's Edition in the mail. Wasn't expecting it, so awesome surprise. The serial in the box is different from what I have. Does that mean I have two serials now? Or was I not supposed to use the serial I got from Beta?

If I gave the serial that came with the box to a friend, could he use it?

No. You'll always get a different number when you tell Stardock to email you your serials, but they're all tied to the same account.

I just did the "Look up Serial Number" thing again and the serials match the email from last weekend.

What can I say. It's up to you with what you want to try with the one copy you purchased.

I'm just wondering if I made a mistake by using the serial I got during Beta. I just looked through my statements and wasn't double billed or anything.
