The Olympian Gods

Beware Their Wrath

Welcome mortal to Mount Olympus, home of the gods. I, Zeus, have allowed you to journey here to prove your worth and to see if you shall be allowed to join us in the control of the universe.

If you manage to show that you are worthy by achieving 25 victorious battles or 100,000 cumulative points than we have decreed that we will bestow upon you the Glorious Title of Senator.

Let all those that are in our presence tremble and despair. We threw down the mighty Titans and will Prevail in All our Doings.

Some Important Things to Know About This Empire

One doesn't need to be one of the Olympian gods, any character is fine!

This is an Open empire, so anyone can join. I will try to keep up with who is joining so I can send a friendly hello.

Hard work and perseverance pay off. I will award those that accomplish such tasks with a Senator position.

I think it is important and my duty to help new players and learn from veteran players. I promise that this empire is here for the player!

A Little About Your Emperor

SILVERBEACHER (Main Character: Zeus)

Born and raised in Michigan, Silverbeacher, or Silver as he is commonly called, is a college student at Purdue University in Indiana where he is majoring in Political Science and Pre-Law.

He first came into contact with the Galactic Civilization Universe in the summer of 2003, with the first game in the series. He found the game very enjoyable but never did partake in the original Metaverse. A few years later he came across the sequel, Dread Lords, at a local Best Buy, and began trying out the new and improved game.

At first, he never visited the website or the Metaverse, but one day, while seeking answers, he hopped onto the GalCiv2 website and the rest as they say is history.

Almost immediately interested in the Metaverse, he began looking for an empire to join, originally checking out both the Galactic Diplomats and the High Command Hegemony. It was in the threads of the HCH that he came across Neilo and MarshallONeil. Neilo had only recently left the HCH-which had become a very quiet remnant of its former glory-and had formed the Tyranny of Evil.

In the summer of 2007, Silver joined the Tyranny-or ToE as it is often referred to as. Meanwhile, Neilo, had also been appointed the "leader" of a new way of competing against other MV players, the Metaverse League. Silver originally sat out of the MVL, fearing that he was not a good enough player to compete alongside such game greats as MottiKhan and Mumblefratz, but eventually did decide to join in the middle of the third round, where he even managed to get a speed bonus point for his team.

Due to the rapid growth of the MVL, a new team was needed for Round 4, and Silver gladly submitted his name to be the new captain of this team. With this, Team E-or more properly, The Eternal Villainy-, was founded.

Silver had captained the Villainy for three rounds when Commissioner, and fellow Villainy teammate, Neilo, decided to step down from his position as Commissioner of the MVL. At the request of Neilo and others, Silver accepted the nomination to be the new Commissioner of the MVL. After a close, but friendly, election, Silver was named the new "Commish" and Round 7 of the MVL was his first round under his 'leadership'.

It was also at this time that Silver decided to form his own empire, which he named the Olympian Gods. For a while, Silver remained a member of both the ToE and the Olympian Gods but eventually, decided that he wanted to focus all his attention on the MVL and Olympian Gods and so said goodbye to his Tyranny brothers to venture out on his own.

And that is how we say, is that.

Those that have visited the Tyrannyofevil.com may have already seen this but here anyhow for your viewing pleasure...

So the last few days I've been working on a custom race just for a fun 'normal' game now and then.  Using the Iconians as a base, I've created the Edhilhin {(Eh-Thil-hEen)Elvish for 'Children of the Stars'}.

The Edhilhin Starting Statistics

Seen above are the Inherent Abilities of the Edhilhin; obviously one can see that a MAJOR limiting factor is their extremely weak population growth.  The tech tree has some cost increases due to some technologies now having new or stronger passive abilities.  Also, the Industrial Replicators have been tweaked slightly (minor changes in maintenance and/or production)

What follows is a comparison between the Edhilhin and the Terran Alliance once all techs have been researched

Terrans VS Edhilhin

Economy: 35 v 55
Notes: Terrans get GSEs while the Edhilhin get MCs which are only 1/2 as strong

Defense: 25 v 30
Notes: Comparable but the Edhilhin get the "Good-Aligned" defenses available to them regardless of ethical alignment, giving them a slight edge.

Speed: 40 v 70
Notes: A spot where the Edhilhin really shine. Since Hyperdrive is given a passive +20 speed ability, it makes them the fastest starting ships of any race.

Morale: 45 v 35
Note: Comparable but the Edhilhin don't get spammable morale buildings. However, the unique projects are moderately strong so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Pop. Growth: 25 vs -15
Note: The real limiting factor to the Edhilhin, even adding Aphrodisiac will just barely make them grow faster than the other races.

Social Prod: 40 v 40
Identical, but the research costs for the Edhilhin to get those levels are much higher than the Terran counterparts.

Mil. Prod: 25 v 55
The Edhilhin obv. have the advantage here, but again the bonuses are later in the tech tree and are expensive.

Research: 10 v 0
Slight bonus to the Terrans, but the Edhilhin start with the unique projects which give them a slight early advantage. However, the limiting factor is first, they can only build one per planet (vs terran spammables) and the higher maintenance costs.

Influence: 50 v 50
The same but the Edhilhin get a bonus early (+20 with Xeno Persuasion) while the Terrans get it later.

Diplo: 200 v 90
Obv the Terrans have the advantage here, and this is JUST the passive tech abilities, not inc DTs or the SA. Most of the other races will have a comparable level (at least 120). So the Edhilhin obv get the short end here no matter who they are dealing with.

HP: 60 v 180
The Edhilhin just plain kick ass on HP ability but its late game and costly. For basis it will take a 90HP Huge to a 252HP behemoth.

Soldiering: 70 v 70
The same but the Edhilhin only have three techs to research vs the entire line for the Terrans. However, the Terrans get more invasion tactics, adv. troops mods, planetary defense, and the such. The Edhilhin only get PI, Planetary Bombardment, and Stellar Marines. This limits the effectiveness of their battles. The soldiering bonus is best used Defensively instead of Offensively.

Logistics: 52 v 55
The Edhilhin have a better starting logistical ability (10) but don't majorly outshine any other race, as can be seen here vs the Terrans.

Miniaturization: 100 v 120
Slight advantage to the Edhilhin, but less so than the Yor and Thalans.

Ethical Alignment Advantages/Disadvantages

Good: +15 research, +5 Diplomacy, -8 Planet Quality, +15 Influence Ability

Neutral: +40 Reduction in Buy Now (total reduction with Inherent, Neutral Alignment, and Balanced Vision Tech= 75%)

Evil: -10 morale, -10 Planet Quality, +3 War Profiteering

Usage Note: Be patient, and play nice. USE trade! You get enough profit now to make it worthwhile, and it will keep the AI off you long enough to build up your empire. If you can make it long-term you'll have more than enough power to take on the other races.

As you can see the Edhilhin do get some strong starting abilities (speed, research, and early PI ability) but can't match middle game (lackluster pop growth, diplo, research costs, weak economy).  However, with patience, they do come out on top at the end.

I hope to make a completely unique ship set once 2.0 is out.  I'd also like a unique Icon and Avatar but I don't know how to do that stuff.

My fellow Olympians,

After a lot of thinking and pondering over the weekend, I have since decided to disband the Olympian Gods.  You may have noticed that your characters are now "free".

I have enjoyed my time running this empire, but there were a few reasons I came to the conclusion that I have.  First, I am dismayed by the seemingly near overrunning of the MV by fake characters and empires.  Secondly, I don't foresee much more long-term growth potential in new MV players.

I have hopes for a possible Metaverse in GCIII (or some multiplayer functionality at least) and at that time I will revisit the idea of having some kind of empire/clan.

In any case, thank you to all of you that played a good game and allowed the Olympian Gods to reach 8th place and a spot on the Galactic Map.

May you all fare well,

Silverbeacher

The fake characters and cheaters are indeed dismaying.  Thank you for the opportunity of being a member of your empire.  Your thoughtfulness and enthusiasm for the game served the Olympian Gods well, and if there is a Metaverse for GC3 perhaps the GalCiv universe will feel the might of the Klingon Empire.  Qa'pla!  ;)

GreatCthulhu and Hyperion disolve into supernatural energy, and begin to search for new existences to manifest their power in...

BTW,

if any Olympians are wondering where *I* moved my characters, and possibly as to affect their decisions...

I moved my primary into the Colonial Fleet.  I'm a huge BSG fan, and I don't feel like being untrue to my "principles" really.   I moved one character into the Kzinti out of respect for KzintiPatriarch.  And moved Boilermaker back to the Tyranny- where I got my start.

So SB, have you finished the OGs' ship style and tech tree yet?

Who among the beings known as the Olympian Gods have the courage to become a Hero?  If the juices of conquest flow through your liver, and you want to join us at the top of the galactic food-chain, then the Kzinti will welcome you.  Those without honor or courage will be hunted down like sthondats and fed to the carrion eaters!

haha good luck KP, about half the OG were also Tyranny members ;P

Actually I think Red Claw, Ferrel, and JustinSane were my only singularly-aligned members

I thought it was more like 80%...doesnt hurt to leave the offer open though.  I individually invited JustinSane to join with one of his unalligned characters, but I asked Neilo first if he would object.  As Neilo commented, he is glad we both adhere to the conventions of the comunity. :)

Yeah, JustinSane is very helpful. I invited his  3rd character to join the Geckodons.

Hmm, Sorry to see the OG go. Thanks Silver, for the good times :) .Wonder what I'll do with MetaLeaguer now.

I'm sorry to see the Olympian Gods go.  Silverbeacher, you've been an excellent emperor, and fellow Olympians:  It has been a pleasure.

KzintiPatriarch and Emperor_Seth, thank you very much for your invitations (and the kind words).  However, at heart I still consider myself loyal to the Galactic Diplomats, who taught me most of what I know.  The Diplomat diaspora has landed primarily within the ToE (Mumblefratz, DethAdder, Magnumaniac...), which is the reason I transferred my primary character there a while back.  For the same reason, I'm transferring my un-aligned characters there now with the disolution of the OGs.  Again, thank you very much :).

Even though the OG has been disbanded I still want to include them in my MV Empires mod.
