capitol ships...

capitol ships...

Hey I was just wondering how people use there capitol ships and what ones they like best so feel free to share anything about capitol ships here.

Does anyone attack a planet without having a capitol ship in there fleet?

Can frigs/cruisers/caps attack bombers/fighters?

Some capitals have anti-strikecraft abilities, but generally there are specific frigates for anti-strikecraft work. Of course, fighters are meant for anti fighter/bomber work also :)
Can bombers attack other bombers?
Can bombers attack fighters?

Yes, but poorly.
Can figters attack frigs/cruisers/caps?

Yep!

Yes, but poorly.

... what?

Bombers can't attack other strikecraft -- they removed that ability in an attempt to band-aid a bug (and it didn't work well, ./snigger)

Not only can fighters attack larger ships, but some ships (LRM craft in specific) actually take a horrendous amount of damage from them, as they use "very light" armor.

Bombers can't attack other strikecraft

When? I haven't played the beta for a while, but I seem to remember bombers chasing fighters when they had nothing else to do..

That got removed... I haven't tested it in a while, but because bombers were attacking fighters by "mistake", as a band-aide they removed that ability. Bit 'em in the rear later on, but they did.

Huh, okay, I stand corrected then :P

If you have a long game where your opponent has the time and the distance to build up 8 carriers, it looks like your only hope is to build up your own fleet of carriers. I had a game like this the other night and the "Anti-bomber" beam frigs were a joke.

What are other's thoughts on this? It would be sad if the game turned into mass carriers and attack move for the win...

ya carriers are currently a bit overpowered but there will defiantly be changes in the final version so that anti strikecraft ships should work better.

I think they are moving for powerful AoEs for anti-strike, although considering their distances from one another the AoE radius is going to need to be impressive.

You mean the devs, or us online? I've been after it for a while...

I hope your referring to Sova style carriers, not Perchion style carriers... that said, 20 or so Perchions are easy enough to get, and can shred enemies easily. Yes, the bombers die quick, but the alpha strike = nasty!

Don't underestimate the power of the Dark Side... Or the Sova carrier start. Early on bombers are quite deadly with the lack of any flack frigates and fighters, and even if your opponent got fighters you should be able to take them on. The Sova, while not as good as the Kol, can still do decent ship to ship damage especially with laser research. You just need to know when to retreat and when to kite. :CONGRAT:

And don't forget its Embargo ability for rushing :D
