Babylon 5 Mod Ideas

So since it should be inevitable for a B5 mod to get made, i figure it couldn't hurt to talk some about it, and perhaps maybe plan and get a team going for it.

Major Major Questions...

1. How many playable races to attempt, and which ones?

2. How many ships per faction, should ship roles/designs and numbers be based off the existing Sins races or not care?

3. Which general era of ships to use for the Earth Alliance?

4. Should capital ship mechanics remain the same? IE should the current game mechanics be kept in more or less the same condition?

My personal ideas is that the general game should play about the same, but that many ships should be condensed into one for some races, or expanded for others, notably I am in favor of maintaining only 3 Capital ship choices, as I think finding 5 for each major race would be quickly silly.

I would say for the beggining 3 balanced major races would be best, in general I view the technical/qualitative tiers being as such

Lowest: League Worlds, Early EA, Dilgar
Medium: EA, Centauri, Narn
High: Minbari, Drahk
Godish: Shadows, Vorlons, Additional Ancients

The mod would preferably come with several maps, one of which would represent the B5 universe just before the shadow war, it would be nice if a timer was included so that perhaps 3 hours into the game 2 special pirate worlds (the Shadows and the Vorlons) launch massive and mean pirate strikes... regular Raider Pirates would otherwise conduct themselves normally.

Other special maps/scenarios: Dilgar EA war... Earth Minbari War, and Narn Centauri War (The Shadows should/could be present here as well.)

While some races would be playable in these scenarios, for example in the Earth-Dilgar war you could play these or the League worlds, as the Early EA faction would be balanced with them; but the Earth Minbari War should be a 2V1, with the Minbari being powerful enough to take on two players.

This means that in the generic game, the balanced races would be EA, Narn and Centauri. The Minbari, Drahk and League worlds would all be special militia or pirate forces, we could easily design new planets that corresponded to these races and would spawn with special militia units, thus you wouldn't have Minbar being guarded by Raiders or Drazi.

Ship wise, the most important is obviously the Capitals- My personal choices for the 3 main powers are as such, with the TEC similar ship noted.

EA: Omega Destroyer (Kol) Posideon Super Carrier (Sova) Nova Dreadnought (Marza)

Narn: Bin`Tak Dreadnought (Kol) G`Quan Heavy Cruiser (Dunov) (Third????)

Centauri: Primus BattleCruiser (Dunov?) Octurion Battlship (Kol) Balvarin Carrier (Akkan?)



Additional Scenarios: Psi Corp Rebellion, EA Civil War, Mars Rebellion, The Centauri-League War (with Drahk as Pirates?) The list goes on and on.

Oh and for the EA, I would use Hyperions as the basic combat unit, to give fans an iconic mainstay for their fleets, as opposed to the too awesome for Frigate Omega, and the lesser known Olympus, Tethys, Saggitarius, or Oracle... (or the others   )

I just started watching B5 on Hulu, and I must say that I am impressed. Impressed enough to spend 3 hours downloading a B5 mod for Freespace 2 and playing that for longer than I should.

I may do a B5 mod, once I get some more cash from the government’s stimulus package. I plan to hire a team of young game developers from the local gaming/computer animation training college. All working hard, full time for money, I think it could be done in a month or two. Like many things in life it only gets done if you throw money at it.

Excellent idea, I fully encourage you to go for it and look forward to seeing your results.

I'd love to see a babylon 5 mod, if there is a team forming I'd be happy to join in, I can help in most aspects except the modelling.

ok first off, sins only holds up to 4 races at a time soon to be 6, second yes i would like to see this mod go far but on other hand the idea is nerve recking. reason being is that Bablyon 5 has been done already for sins and failed cause it crashed so much that the mod was taken off moddb. Also theres about 300 to 400 ships. The mods for babylon 5 that i saw that i thought was probably the best was for Homeworld and Homeworld 2.  on some note the rts mod was really great for Star Trek Armada 2, not saying you cant do it, but just most of the Bablyon 5 mods that has been discussed for Sins i think is a waste of time. 3 of the greatest games is where this mod fits well.

if you plan on going ahead and making the mod please add the minbari,EA, and Vorlon cause think of it this way Minbari is more like the advent, Ea is more like TEC and Vorlon is more like Vasari And the pirates you can pretty much add anything. Of course when i start making my mod ill help out with scripting and AI works. if you want a good idea for this mod you might want to change out the control panel screens and the tech reasearch.

i like the idea you have for this mod but think alittle more on it....add some more details on what you plan on doing for era and timeline. cause i think if we but heads together we can come up with an idea for that since ive watch the series 17 times over and movies like 5 times over. and oh the Crusades era you might want to add for this to

The Dilgar War was before the Earth minbari War, and notably we know a good bit about it; for one the Dilgar used biological weapons to decimate or anhilate whole populations, also they were driven to war by their foreknowledge of the fate of their sun. Once the war failed and dragged a bit, the sun went nova destroying the Dilgar. What few troops or ships are or were lefts probablly turned to piracy and by the time of B5 (maybe 30-50 years later?) they were probablly hunted to extinction. ROFL

ok heres the backstory for the dilgar war that people probably dont know. The Dilgar war was started cause as usual Earth is all about peace, but the only reason Earth Alliance went to war with the dilgar was to impress the minbari to get them to open comunications, Earth Alliance had already made contact with  the minbari but open communication was limited since Earth Alliance Colonies were far away. on the other side of the story the dilgar were working with the vorlons hence hence "you are not ready for the future" Kosh Said  the last dilgar was killed in that episode by the vorlons. you must already know also the minbari warrior cast had made dealings with the dilgar also, however the grey council remained unaware of the warrior casts intentions and seized communications with the dilgar

Im not going to argue canon on a forum because theres no point, but I was amazed at how confidently you told a story that is 75% wrong. But no one cares so have fun makeing crap up.

There is another mod in progress for B5:

Current general release has:

"Jumpgatemodel and effects (when loading a safegame, to reactivate the jumpgateeffect turn jumpgate off and on)
Beam colors and graphics modified
Stats and names for all EA and Minbari ships
Stats for Military outposts (EA and Minbari)"(1st release)
