no!! BAD HALO, BAD!!!!

Honestly, if VIDEO GAME music is the best violin music you ever heard, get out of you cave!! I have a cattle prod, I will herd you out to an acutally music concert that is NOT heavily edited by some fat guys sitting in front of keyboards.

I'd say best violin music in a video game is the Bioshock soundtrack... that is AMAZING!!! Overall, its final fantasies, I love Nobuo Uematsu. He writes the best themes, and the spirit of the music transfers over even in it's limited digital format.

The problem with the music you just cited... while technically more sophisticated it doesn't really move most people. While many musicians don't like the idea of "thematic" music (mostly academic musicians that write for the art... and no one really listens to them but other academic musicians) it does tend to speak to people more effectively. This is why Opera remains the most popular form of classical music because it's by it's very nature thematic... to say nothing of the very technical singing required.

grrr... stupid link thing made me lose my written post...

but this is probably a better example, last movement of the same piece, different player I think it's a bit muddier

all music as a theme, what I showed had a specific theme, this has two themes as well. What you should have said is that most people don't want to bother about thinking about the music. I've probably heard that group already (don't remember and the link was down). do you know the group? I heard a group before that probably did roughly the same thing.

no, not all music is thematic. there wouldn't be thematic music if all music were thematic.

an example of thematic music is basically all movie or opera music. Where as typical classical music is NOT thematic. I can cite the other types if you like... but anyone can tell the difference between the sound of a movie score and an abstract classical work.

Basically, you like elictric guitar, not violin, and you like Yass Violin as well... Each to his own.

I believe that classical music/instruments and modern rock/pop/rap music should be left separate.

The violin can only show its true colors through works like Bach, Beethovan, Sibelius and Paganini.

I wonder if you consider Edvard Grieg's work "classical", because I do, and In the Hall of the Mountain King sounds right at home in Apocalyptica's album Cult.

Fight Fire With Fire (Metallica cover)

In the Hall of the Mountain King (Composed by Edvard Grieg)

And yes, I know the movie for In the Hall of the Mountain King has nothing to do with the song, but the audio's great.

Granted, Apocalyptica plays cellos, but if those two songs can be rationally played by the same band, it means that modern music and classical instruments can go together just fine.

For me that would be in very bad taste. However, that's only because I grew up with classical music.

Keep in mind that I have no problem with rock (i even have some metallica in my Zen (ipod competitor).

For me, if classical would be remixed with rock, there's no way in hell that you'll convince me that the remix is better then the original. Whether they can go together is entirely based on taste.
