Browse Wallpapers by size

Idea for possible WC feature...

Recently I got a new monitor and its big... making it not a typical wallpaper size. I had the idea that maybe a new feature could be added or created for browsing the wallpaper section. this could make it easier to browse the now 9000+ (and growing wildly) wallpapers here. Knowing it might be alot of work to set this idea up, I'm just 'throwing this out there' for possible feedback and so 'the powers that be' might see it and consider it... so here goes...

When someone uploads a wallpaper or pack of wallpapers to WC a new section can be added so that a list of say something like 10 (or whatever #) of the most popular sizes are available as check boxes that the uploader can 'mark' as being included in the submission. Maybe 7 sizes with a check box for 'Larger', one for 'Smaller' and and 'Other'. If left totally unchecked it can go into the 'Other' category.

Each member (or maybe this could be a subscriber feature) can set thier own personal 'size preference' in thier profile settings. Then in the wallpaper section there can be an option to 'Sort by Your Size Preference' much like the 'Sort by Last Updated' and so forth.

Thats it.. would make sorting through a crazy number of wallpapers much faster for people.

Great idea....were it not for the realization we're 9000 walls too late.  It'd be a job and a half to catch up...

I for one don't worry about sizes.....if the wall is any good and it doesn't include my size I simply mod it to suit...

yeah but stretching a 800 pixel wallpaper to 1900 doesn't look so go no matter what you do

as for the 'old' walls, they can always be edited to suit if the submitter wanted and/or placed into the 'other' category in the mean time...

Shawn, check out the HDTV/Widescreen section at dA and interfacelift has a lot of widescreen stuff. I know how you feel...just got a 24" widescreen myself. <3

Yeah but I always get my wallpapers from dA (mostly) and some from interfacelift. Honestly I don't know how many truly hi-res widescreen wallpapers are on here (guessing not that many that would interest me), which is why something like this would be nice (I made a similar recommendation in one of Brad's posts about it).

I've found that 75% I can mod to fit my screen res.  Ive got a 23 in widescreen running at 1280x768.  Sorry for the odd size but this fits my bad eye sight.

When users upload content, they can specify "Tags" for their work.  It would be very easy for folks to enter "1280x1024" or something similar when uploading.

But in general, I agree that size sorting is something that would make the wallpaper gallery, going forward, a heck of a lot easier to shift through.

It's not the size that matters anyway. It's how you use it on your .... desktop...

Yeah, but how many people know about tags (authors and users alike), let alone how to use utilize them? I know I don't.

It would be a lot easier if there was some way to filter which resolution you want (similar to the categories filtering). And this would be done by having checkboxes for the popular resolutions when uploading the wallpaper.
