Wife Getting Tattoo Part II

Please submit thoughts

Ok, Mari is pretty stoked about the yin-yang concept, and I think maybe my crude drawing didn't explain what she and I talked about well enough, so I took a little more time to try to show the concept we had in mind. Would this one (or variations of any overlapping between yin-yang and the flies) change your thoughts any? Thanks for comments.

Here's another attempt.

It's like a sore tooth...I can't quit fiddling with it!

I rather like the second one over all from both posts. Any other thoughts?

Ew, bugs.

If she's into the yin-yang thing, fine, the overwhelming majority are not interested either way, and even less impressed by it. So I hope her passion for it is a genuine personal thing, that really will stand the test of time - else she will be kicking herself for many many years longer than the years she alone was impressed by it.

i really like the design. i like that it is different.

lw is completely correct. talk to your artist about it. don't let just anyone do it.
pay attention, and see if the artists you talk to are interested, or just trying to get your money. look at their work!

i would suggest that you use hard lines for the bugs, and a blue or gray wash for the yin yang part. it would have to be a medium to dark wash so you will always be able to see it.

once you pick your artist, let him or her go, make sure you get across what you want out of it, but try to trust them. if you do a good job hiring the right artist, you will love the outcome.

i like that its not round.

get it done, and post photos.

She's a buddhist, Zydor. I didn't ask for your opinion on tattoos or yin-yangs. I was asking a design question. When I asked for comments, it wasn't intended to be a carte-blanche excuse to open your ass and pour shit out of it. If you're not inclined to answer what was clearly a question regarding aestheticism, why don't you just keep your mouth shut.

And by the way, the "overwhelming majority" that "aren't impressed with it" are a bunch of vacant eyed, shallow, mouth breathing fuck wits without a shred of originality or creativity. They're the last people she'd care to please were she to try and please anyone but herself in the first place.

Have a great day, and thanks for your insightful input.

Pbbbltltltlt. Not.

and they also lend themselves well to bright, beautiful coloring.

Color is definitely a part of the plan - this is just a pencil sketch. It in no way represents the totality of the idea.

Yes, she is in no rush. This is an idea long forming. Thanks for both of your constructive comments!

The design is very interesting, especially with the yin-yang being two-sided, with three dragonflies.

Also, as to the depth of everything, I prefer the dragonfly on top of everything. Having one of the wings be dotted with the yin-yang dotty thing would be cool, too, but I don't know if that would ruin it.

For what it's worth, I like it with the yin yang. My fave is the last one.

I had a similar issue where I wanted to incorporate a peace sign into my tat and it's pretty subtle, but I like it, even though not everyone would think it really "belongs".

I think what she's wanting to do could work and look really nice. I also think it's cool that you (her husband) are helping to design it.

I hope these images come through. I really love this lotus flower yin yang.

Here was a different style dragonfly yin yang. I think it would definately be too busy for a tattoo but it's always interesting to see other variations.

I agree with the idea to take your design to an tattoo artist and get their input on the design.

yeh I second or is it third the though, that it matters where it is going to be placed that will have an effect on how well it 'shows' again I agree bring it to an artist that also happens to tattoo. if he can 'see' the beauty of it, you have a done deal, avoid someone that just shines you on, you will have the sense of who is 'feeling ' it and who is not. I have lived with one tat longer than most people here on joeuser have been alive the black leopard on my right arm with a scrolled "angel" {the name not the picture} over the top I payed a whopping 8 bucks for the leopard and 2 bucks for the name. I still love it 46 years later and the colors have stood the test of time, you can still see the red claw marks quite plainly.

You've jumped to the wrong conclusion - the above was no "attack", just fact. Most people are not into tatoos, nor yin-yang - if she is thats fine, I have no problem with it. It is also fact that many do regret a tatoo in later life. As long as she considered that, great.

Not every comment on JU is an attack just because it might be an alternate view that you disagree with. Particularly when in this case the person making it has a tatoo - like me....

PS - And this off-topic...

I have a specific tattoo I want to get. Oh, I want to get it so badly. So very badly.

Adrian won't let me until he gets his first tattoo first. Apparently we have to take turns getting tattoos. It wouldn't be "fair" for me to have 2 and him have 0.

Umm, why do you think most people are not interested in tattoos?

In my experience, most people ARE interested in tattoos, even those who might not have or plan to get one themselves.

You were rude and Ock put you in your place. That's a fact.

LW:
You go, Ock!

I will. Until people realize you're not the only one that bites

Subtle is kind of what we're after, but as I stated, I'm lousy with graphic arts...you have no idea how long I struggled with photoshop to put those rudimentary ideas together I'm sure there's a way to make that yin-yang so that you only see it if you take a second look, and that is certainly something we would convey to the artist.

I think what she's wanting to do could work and look really nice. I also think it's cool that you (her husband) are helping to design it.

As LW once said, I'm not nearly as curmudegonly as the guy I play on JU. I just act that way to scare away those that can't form their own opinions because...well...because I hate them and think they're destroying the progress of the human race. Another day, another blog.

I'm all showers of rose petals in person *chuckle* No, really!

Thanks for your OWN opinion, TW

To Locomama: I can't wait to show those to Mari. Thanks!

It's not off topic! Tell us

Dr. Guy:
Where is she looking at putting it?

Haha...well that's also a topic of discussion. She was thinking right about at her bikini line...between her navel and....lower than her navel Other thoughts were back of a shoulder, and a brief thought of lower back, but I don't think it's really lower back tat style. Ultimately, I'll leave it up to her...unless she says "forehead" or something

MM:

A very good point, and fortunately, since she wasn't able to get it in San Diego due to time constraints, it might happen while we're vacationing in northern Italy in a few days. In that case, I'll be with her, and I know the sense of which you speak.

Thanks all

LOL. If you're hanging about with Sabrina, I'm pretty sure you're bad news.

I'm sure there's a way to make that yin-yang so that you only see it if you take a second look, and that is certainly something we would convey to the artist.

That's kind of how I pictured it, even from the first one you posted on the other thread. I like it.

because I hate them and think they're destroying the progress of the human race

I'm pretty sure I'm one of those destroying the progress of the human race, but I can't help it. Haha.

Ok, so here is what I want. I lifted it from a pic of Izzy's onesie, so it's not the best quality. It would have crisper lines as a tat.

I don't know if I want more with it or just as is. It is so me, though. It took a lot of self discipline to NOT go get it done while I was in Texas.

Oh yes...quite evil. *smirk* I loved her phrase in that recent rant:

Don't fuck with my friends. Don't fuck with my family. Don't fuck with my animals. Ever. I'll hurt you if you do. I'll find a way and I can wait for years if necessary, but in the end, I'm gonna fuck you up.

So Saggitarian (whether she is or not) I was grinning from ear to ear - I totally agree. I AM Saggitarian. We wait patiently for a clear shot. Happily patiently.

I'm pretty sure I'm one of those destroying the progress of the human race, but I can't help it. Haha.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like you if that were true, TW. But I find that I definitely do. You have two major facets (among however many) that come out from what I've seen. One is this sweet and very sincere heartwarming mother - something of an endangered species these days...and the other thinks the same thing that rant said - that just below the surface there is an imminent threat to anyone who threatens what you value - particularly your friends, home, and your family. Oh yeah...it's called true courage.

It's those without courage to think or act, those whose concept of "home" is just where they eat, excrete, and pretend to procreate at, that I refer to. Sorry, ...you're not among them unless my read is way off My wife is a military spouse, a reservist, and recently completed 21 months as an active duty reservist, and though I'm not nearly in as much danger as your husband, I know what kind of carnage would occur if someone were to cast the slightest aspersion in my direction (or the direction of any military member.) Hell...*I* would duck for cover. Sorry...I'm rambling now - but it's a complimentary ramble. A lesson to the wise - if you're going to insult a military member, don't do it in front of their spouses unless you have a death wish.

Ok, so here is what I want. I lifted it from a pic of Izzy's onesie, so it's not the best quality. It would have crisper lines as a tat.

Onesie? Not sure what that is, but I love the crossed safety pins. Classic. Get it as soon as possible, and as toothache said earlier - show us pics when you do

Good description, LW. I was trying to think of a way to describe one, but... I definitely don't have your way with words. Thingy and crotch in the same sentence? I wouldn't even dream of it.

Hey, LW. Cool tats, where'd you get them? I want to get a tat of Paris Hilton's dog on my left arm. It's going to be stellar.
"Cool tats...where'd ya get 'em?'" followed by some retarded description of the tattoos they want to get, as if I give a shit what some random stranger wants.l

Reminds me of a Peanuts cartoon I've always remembered (though not as clearly as I'd like as you'll see)

Charlie Brown and Linus are laying on a hill looking up at the clouds, and Charlie Brown remarks at the interesting things you can see in formations of clouds to which Linus replies that he sees a huge slew of very detailed scenes from history, biblical stories, and whatnot. Extremely detailed. Then he asks Charlie Brown what HE sees, and Charlie Brown says "Well, I was going to say I saw a duckie, and a horsie, but forget it."

Thanks, I think... can't see the smiley.

I thought a tat of Jamie Farr's face on my right arm would be going a bit far with the joke...
The smiley is there. And there's only one place to put a tat of Jamie Farr's face. On your butt. Why? Because he's Klinger, of course. *ba doomp boomp ching*

Preemptive: No groaning on my blog

The drummer in my band just got two tats of "screws" (ship's propellers) on his butt. Yes, one on each side, which he'll kindly show anyone with even a minor interest (and perfect strangers, too, on occasion, given the correct application of beer.) Says he wants to get a better time on the bi-annual swim test. Hahaha.
