One of the things that I would like to see is the ability to design your own ships. In many great games(Gal Civ 2) players were able to customize or build in game ships. This easy to use interactive window allowed everybody who wasn't in to modding the code of the ships. I think that this would be a great addition to an already amazing game. You could include the shipyard feature as an extra program since this is a rts game.

Anyone else like the idea?

The devs have considered the possibility of an out-of-game graphics editor, but due to the nature of the game it may or may not happen.

an out of game is wat i was talking about, they did the same thing with the starcraft(that was a long time ago) with map editors, a shipyard would be a great addition!

The devs have pretty much said no to the idea AFAIK, but i'm sure that with all this demand, somebody will make one. They have said that the Iron Engine is perfect and will make you waffles (an official quote btw... (nr)) so i'm expecting it to be 'relatively easy.'

We won't be including the ability to make your own ships in-game, as it's not practical for an RTS. However, you will be able to add in new ships via mods using the Forge Tools.

Will these added ships be available to all players of the appropriate faction or only one player? Or is that only a single player feature? I can see a potential balance issue here.....

thats how it will be? Could the ships be used in ranked combat?

Will forge tools be released with the game or will there be an extra charge?

Forge tools will be out once the full game is out.

I doubt modded anything will be allowed to be used in ranked games.

RANKED games...

apparently the multiplayer thingy will be 'something like battle.net' so im guessing there will be a custom maps tab that all the cool ppl play

you can show it off all you want, just not in ranked games!

so play LAN or non ranked games with friends and or whomever and show off you new stuff to everyone.

Forge Tools will be made available either just before or sometime after release (not sure exactly when as it'll depend on how things go in the home stretch). They will be free to registered owners of the game.
