and yours too, if you want.
just lets try and get mine done first
some advice from my forumites, awesome advice btw:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115003

nice, will do
thats 50 bucks...
why is the DVD drive beige? And the case black?

I found a black one half a fricking year ago, but I guess it got sold out

I would appreciate a combo drive thats black (preferably at equal speed or faster) writing DVDs is not my concern, running them and CDs is. although from what I hear they all write now . I'm not really concerned with vanity, I Just want the thing to work.
Yes, the E6600 is a great buy. It can pretty much chug through anything SupCom throws at it (unless you try playing against 7 Supreme AIs on one machine...the game slowed down to about a tenth its normal speed before crashing... ). For me, the only real cap on the game is my graphics card (GeForce 7900 GS), but I can run it on high fidelity settings and get awesome results, though it does tend to slow every now and then...hopefully as the patches continue, the game will be further optimized (a big patch released not too long ago tinkered with more sensitive stuffs pertaining to unit pathfinding, with positive results), and the stand-alone title will help this situation even more, even if it's for a price...

well then, its settled isnt it!

ok, now here are the problems I have and why, I'm not a computer person so just try to stick to layman speak pls.
1) Combo drive
a) biggest concern is that it might be a bit slow, would appreciate a faster one for a comparable price
b) its beige... its vain but I would like a black one
2) Hard Drive
a) its quick, but its capacity is small, would like a similar but larger one. (I'm talking about the 74 gig one, not the 150 gig I found)
b) I would prefer a quiet one, but its not my main concern.
3) video card
a) sounds like its enough, but I'm not tech savvy
4) motherboard
a) dunno really... compared to the quality of the rest of my parts it doesnt really stand up, from what I hear it hardly affects performance, but its the central unit so I want to make sure
b) give me all the dewhickies that you can find (for not too much more expensive)
5) comp in general
a) I want all the parts to fit, I think that makes sense
b) I hope it wont overheat too much, this is an expensive computer.

and out of curiousity, just how powerful can a processor get? do they come in gradations of .8GHz?

and as always, thanks for the advice guys

would be nice if I showed you the parts, wouldnt it?

my god...... in integrated video is incase your video card dies.... otherwise disable it as it is useless in gaming. anyway it doesn't matter now, you changed your mind...

and this is a better motherboard....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131043

no need for a sound card if you get that one, as it should support 5.1 surround. (it says 8 channel)

kosc, do you really think any game would run with a mobo integrated vid card?

Why do you think you have to pay 300+ for your Video card instead of getting one for free with your motherboard. Sure you can play, but enough to say you will be better of with a 3 years old dedicated card (the type that you can get for 30$) then a brand new Onboard Card.

As for sound, the one that comes with motherboard I gave you should be good enough as long as you get a good speaker. For the speaker itself it would recommend this one:

Probably the best bang for the buck and rock solid performance, even if you can pay more for a better system I still think it's the best deal on the market right now.

i have to agree with satthukaraoke on this one. Never had one, but of what i have read, its nothing but trouble.
Also adding that to the mobo, removes other furthers that could be of better use.

But i also like the way you think about it lordkosc if there should happen something to your graphic card, you have the onboard for the time being.

well is it possible to upgrade the mobo you gave me to have a sound card? just in case I want to expand it later?
yeah in the past , the onboard video has come in VERY handy... and never had an issue, then again I am a certified A+ tech with 12 years of PC/network experience, not much I can't handle...

frankly I happen to agree that its largely about the speakers, but I'm a big big big immersion fan, and sound is an integral part of it for me (just today I got to play sins with the music, if only for a short while... oh the orchestral bliss!!!) so having a sound card isnt a huge compromise.

if I have an issue I'm not going to sit around on my... hands while thinking "should I get this fixed or not", so the point is moot really.

Oh absolutely, that's what those extra PCI slots are for.

The speakers I show up have a matrix sound system to emulate 5.1 surrounded sound from a 2.1 system so usually it's good enough. But of course, a dedicated card is always better.

Can't beat dedicated 5.1...

ok, finally the last thing to be concerned about is the thermaltake power supply:
I think this is going to be the final build, so dont hold back any more advice. give me the poison straight out.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153052

and if you can find me a decent sound card to consider, I'll look at it.
I recommend this Power Supply, my brother has it and its works really well. Plus its modular cabling is a nice touch. While it is about 50 dollars more then the other one, you always want to get a Power Supply that will last you.

Can i ask why your getting PC5400 RAM instead of PC6400? the PC6400 too expensiv?
Since theres alot of difference in speed on those two.

Remember from last time? the numbers means Mb per second transfer

PC5400
5400mb/s
runs at 667Mhz

PC6400
6400mb/s
runs at 800Mhz
ok, I'll consider it. but I would prefer not to push my price much farther

ok, I lied, one more question:
karaoke, does the motherboard you supplied me with work a wireless network or a wired one? currently I run a wireless network and while I'm sure I could tear the reciever out of my other computer, its non-ideal.
Do you mean like Wireless G? Or N?
I feel like an idiot...
what does each mean?
I'm looking for a wireless adapter so that I can access the wireless internet network already in my house connected by modem to another computer
to do this I would prefer not ripping out the reciever out of my older computer, as that would be more work for me. I'm wondering if this motherboard, which already has a network reciever built in, works wireless or not.

Wait wasnt there a thread on this like 3 months ago, a thread that I failed to crash and was forced to not interfere with....

the god machine

on a budget that is!
even god has a budget.

seriously, any critique for my power source?
Well, most MO has the Wire (LAN/Ethernet) port on it by default (including the one that I gave you).

Pretty sure most don't have a built in wifi though so you'll have to buy a separate wireless card.
blurg.
ok, I'll just use the one from my other comp.

so, does this mean my powersource is good? or just that you have no idea?

Heh, depend on how you're going to use it. The MO that I gave you support SLI, that means in the future if you want to do SLI (dual Video Cards), you can. However that Power Source of yours does not support SLI. By itself it's a decent Power Supply, but SLI is something to be considered. Not saying you will have to.

Like I said, the core component should have as much room for upgrade as possible in case you need it, if you do it saves you from an overhaul. The MO I recommended is for that purpose, I don't see myself doing SLI or Quad in the near future, but the MO can support that if one day I decide I want to.
that power source will not burn down your house, so you should be ok...
ooh, is not burning down my house an added feature?

I can handle a 100 dollar blow later if I plan on doubling my graph card (that'll be 300 USD anyhow) so I'm sticking as is.

I think this is it guys, I'm getting this puppy ordered tomorrow. if all goes well I'll start building it saturday!

god, my week is beautiful: get together with friends, duke out on starcraft, dayhike and a god-computer!

Just a question: but how well would my "future computer" be able to play supcom?
