star bases

but we know that there won't be personlized ships in the game

and i am assuming that there aren't any plans for starbases

so what i am asking is it possible to put starbases in and personlize them making them as big and as powerful as you want to of course taking as much time to build them depending on what you put on them and how many

the only real use for said art. grav. well is to increase income and resource accumulation

if you take the time and resources to build said grav wells and lanes to the enemy cap you are using up resources that could be used to build more combat ships

this is my assumption but the small grav well of a starbase would not be able to power a lane as long as from planet to planet thus you would need 5 or more of them to get to the nearest planet.

and i would also assume that the only way to get a lane between grav. wells is either to own both or have an ally that owns the other one. yes i know that alliances can be broken on a whim.

this is true but it takes you long 20 minutes to get the construction ship out to where you want to build your base and depending on how big you want to make it

and then you have to do it again at least 4 more times

so yes you can use it to build an area to attack behind enemy lines but it will take 20 minutes give or take for your fleet to get to the planet to attack it or brake the alliance after you connect with your ally

which would mean that the next ai won't ally with you as fast or at least shouldn't

daniel, assumptions that you created after the fact
you made what would have been gamebreakingly viable, unviable. so now (although I still think the concept isn't that great, how do you destroy them?) it works.

the same way you destroy any other structure it just has more hitpoints

ie if you put a trade and resource dock on it just add the hitpoints something like that of course in the case of this structure it might be able to shoot back

the ships in the gravity well are stuck there unless they are able to jump

the ships in the lanes would continue to where they are going since said lane isn't really a lane but the effect of a gate/catipult what ever throwing them to where they are going

something like that

and if the base is destroyed your construction ships would go back to the base area and rebuild it

Anyways, I think that you should be able to build a starbase inside a travel lane, that way, anything that is on it's way to the base will just keep going to the next planet if the base is destroyed. I also don't think it should create an artificial gravity well, it just has an area around it where ships can jump to and act inside (game function would be the same, but it wouldn't be called a gravity well).

I think more stations and station types would be pretty cool. They could divide into three major types:

Space City, pretty much a extension of the planet. Each planet can only build one except Dead Asteroid Planets (would no longer be only annoying speed bumps) which can build two. They could add tax revenue and spawn, say, half the number of Trade Ships that a Trade Station uses, and 1/4 of the Refinery Ships Orbital Refineries spawn.

Military Posts would only allow themselves to be built once per planet. They would provide fighters, possibly four squadrons? They would also have the abilities of Repair Facilities (half efficient though), and have good fire power.

The last type would be Economic Stations, which would research at half the efficiency of Research Stations, but provide twice the number of trade ships vs Trade Stations and 3/2 the number of Refinery Ships as Refineries. Only one per system.

All three should apply efficiency increase to similar structures, units, and the planet (ie Military Post gives a accuracy boast to all military vessels in the gravity well) All planets can build only ONE station, but Dead Asteroids can build two, be it two Cities or a City and another type.

huh... sounds expensive though.

I was thinking core planet and terrestrian/high developed planets only.
