I figured since it is inevitable, I will start a thread to get ideas out on a star wars mod. Who will the sides be? What will the map look like? Units? Tech? etc.

I'm in the same boat. I want to learn 3D modeling but a lack of time and artistic talent are my major roadblocks.

I hate how Sins has carrier vessels that only carry fighter craft and don't have any weaponry of their own to defend themselves. Just seems silly to build a ship with no defenses other than strike craft.

Ideally for a Star Wars mod I would expect to see the Mon Calimari Cruisers, the Nebulon-B Frigates, etc. It would be nice if the x-wings, tie fighters, etc. could be a little larger and easier to see on the screen, and obviously larger squadron sizes or more squadrons available on various ships.

I used to play the real-time strategy game Star Wars Rebellion and it had a ton of ships and data on them available.

Grandgnu, I think this should be 100% to scale. No bigger ships just so you can see them. Zoom in if you want to see them! Do you have the beta? You can zoom in really far to see the current fighters/bombers, and they are a decent size on screen.

WHERE IS EVILJEDI? I WANT THIS OUT SOON AFTER RELEASE!!! lol (btw I might be able to help with the coding the sins files, but I'm sure you can do that yourself, but if you don't want to waste time doing that and instead work on the models/skins, I'd do it. Assuming he ever reads this lol  :NOTSURE:) . Hopefully he will just add the factions, not replace the three existing ones. If he does replace them, what do you think he will make the third faction?

Me want the Sith. Okay seriously the Sith as in Darth Bane sith would ROCK! If i remember them correctly they have the standard line up of ships except that when a Sith Master is in battle all of their opponents would gain a slight de-buff and all the allies would gain a slight buff. The Sith masters could also infiltrate capital ships and sabotage the power cores so that they would explode. Also in one of the Star Wars novels a Sith by the name of Exar Cun or some such built huge temples that focused the force. When he was betrayed and murdered he sealed his soul inside the temples for 4,000 years. I was thinking that the current Sins storyline would be set 15,000 years after the remnants of the Empire, Republic so on and so forth, fought themselves into barbarism. The advent found a Sith holocron and married its teachings with their own genetic siences. The Vasari are the decendents of the Ssi-Rukk sent ahead to conquer the galaxy for their masters. The Vasari broke away and now the Ssi-Rukk are back and pissed. The Yuushan-Vong were devistated by a massive force weapon that was located on Korriban. Some dark Jedi found it and annilated the Yuushan-Vong. Only they missed an outpost and now the Yuushan-Vong are back after sensing the Advent's force using ways. They are terrified that the same force weapon will be used on them again. Only they don't realize that the current incarnation of humanity/aliens dosn't remember/has no intention of using it on them. The Advent found Korriban and the tombs of the Sith and part of them think the Sith ghosts are Gods and serve them slavishly. These Advent are assentially the Sith reincarnated and would be played as such; i.e. their ships would have powerful shields but next to no armor. They would be highly focused on Force/Psi powers. The whichever of Leias children arnt homocidal maniacs discovered that the force weapon was going to be used. They commandeered a colony ship and the schematics for experimental ships and fled. The after shocks of the force weapon burned the abiltity to use the force out of them. Same basic story for the empire. Anyway they're all back and want he force weapon. Unfortunatly the Vasari, Advent, and TEC don't now this and are currently screaming WWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYY!!!!!!!
We were just peacefully trying to kill each other. Anyway I am a freak for lore and a storyline. I just thought it would be strange to have all the Star Wars people just show up and go like, "Yo, were hear now"

I never said darth bane would time travel into the future or that the Sith order survived, i said that the Advent found Korriban and old Sith holocrons and split between those who use force/Psi powers almost exclusivly and those who balance sience with force/Psi powers. Also the rule of two means to Sith n00b, not only two soldiers. I noticed that you had nothing to say about the rest of my idea. I know that I am no Shakespear but I really do like to have at least some amount of lore in a game. I dont pretend that it is that inventive it gives a reason for all of those SSDs to be there dosnt it?

What SSDS? Can we PLEASE just keep the two lores out of each other? I'm sure that there will be some more lore in the game (they need to set it up for the expansion!).

Have no fear my acolytes, I have returned to restore this thread back to its full glory.

I can understand why this thread is going a bit off topic. For starters, we still don't know if we will need to make our own models/textures or if EvileJedi plans on making a mod of his own. And IF he has no such plans, it may be possible that he will let us use his own models if we ask kindly (we would still need to make updated textures and effects). This uncertainty makes it kind of hard to stay focused or make plans.

Of course, there are quite a few things we are certain about. We all know that the SoaSE engine/mechanics have the makings of a great Star Wars mod. Ship abilities also work well with a Star Wars mod (a couple of examples, phase space inhibitor for Interdictors, or 'colonize' representing ground forces for capital ships). We even have a map concept for the Star Wars Galaxy planned out.

The problem with the Homeworld 2 Warlords (Star Wars) mod was that the game was too limited in scope. HW2 was limited to a single 'gravity well' where opponents could fight it out. There was no higher strategic scope to the game.

Sins has no such problem since it is primarily a Strategic game dealing with Empires on a galactic scale. Additionally, Sins offers the potential for tactical depth that comes fairly close to HW2.

Notice I say tactically Sins only comes close to HW2. Unlike Sins, HW2 did have the advantage of having stealth/fog of war within the tactical maps. Still, Sins offers that on the strategic level.

One good thing about Sins is that you can make larger gravity wells than HW2 could make tactica maps. So, if we use much larger gravity wells, we would easily be able to make use of properly scaled SSDs. Hell, there is no reason why we wouldn't be able to make Death Stars as well....although actually destroying planets seems to be out so far.

Bah, I am really only rehashing old stuff again here.

On another note, this holiday family stuff is really keeping me away from the threads. So if you don't see me around for the next couple of days, be sure to not kill each other.
