Research Tree

Is there a way in Sins to see what research will give you what ships and what structures. Maybe I'm not reading the tree right, but how do you research directly to cap ships and the like? Anyone figure that out.

As for my intital observations. Great game, excellent, just a couple things. The zoom function when you double click on a planet and try to zoom in, the zoom takes you all over the place, sometimes to the planet sometimes off to space somewhere else. And is anyone else finding they are spending most of their time in the sensors view, of their empire than actually watching pretty space battles?

You can hover the mouse over the research icons to read up what each does, the requirements needed to complete the research and figure out if they are what you need.

Items with yellow backgrounds in the TEC tech tree give new construction options.

Quickest way to capital ships is (IIRC) Two levels of the hull/repair improvement tech, two levels of something else (to unlock Tier 2), one more level of hull/repair tech and capital ship tech.

->Kryo: But doesn't a 2nd level of something cost more than the first? Better to research 1 level of 2 things + 3 levels of hull repair (with interlude for extra research station) followed by the cap shipyard. And then you'll have to have 3k credits to do anything with it...

omicron, in the case of the hull techs, harvesting techs and colony techs, you specifically NEED level 2 of the first tier to get to level 1 of the second tier. Otherwise you're totally correct, if you're rushing for caps.

but seeing how you "need" those techs anyway, might as well grab them early, when they provide the biggest bonus.

ps. I like how you now need more research stations to get to the higher tiers.
