a question on movement

i've been wondering about the ship movement

is it going to be like sots totally in which they all have diffrent movement (loved the human ships but movement was rubbish!) is there going to be slight variations or are they all going to use the same

oh yes you guys better give us unlucky ones here lots of cool screenies!

it is now offical : being a 15 year old gamer - rubbish

I've read somewhere (maybe in this forum, I can't really remember where) that fiber is required for regular movement.

Seriously though, from what I've read it seems like the Vasari have a speed advantage in Phase Space. This means of course they have an edge in strategic movement.

As for tactical movement. We can see in the Trailer that strike craft are far faster than the capital ships (be strange if they weren't). So the different sizes of ships likely have different speed/acceleration ratings/turn rates.

Now, as far one species having faster ships of the same size/purpose than the others, I don't know. I haven't read anything in the forums that would suggest one species would get a tactical speed advantage/disadvantage over the others.

As far as I know they all move in the same ways. The movement interface ought to be the same too. Would be kinda silly to make them all different. Would just make things unnecessarily complicated. The only differences would be, as noted by Paradonxnt, in speed and potentially certain special abilities that are unique to each species.

I was thinking that research might have an effect on tactical ship speed. More research will probably result in faster ships. This is just speculation though. I haven't read anything about research increasing tactical speeds.

However, I am pretty sure that research will be able to increase strategic speeds (ie Phase Space speeds). I have read about this a few times in SoaSE previews...of course, it might only relate to the Vasari tech tree.

The ships also have no max speed, just max acceleration.

Or is the other way arround....

I'm sure they have a maximum acceleration either way, otherwise they could just jump to max speed instantly

Wee! my capital ships are outrunning your bombers

actually, ship "speed" has nothing to do with it. ship "acceleration" is whats important. (at least, unless if it has been changed)

could you say, "splat" anyone?
your crew wouldn't have to!

Some good points were made!

Lol Schem, you've been quoting yourself again. I think someone with the little logo said that the ships had a max acceleration, and the max velocity is probably w/e is enforced by the quality of their shielding and that light speed barrier thingy.

Realistically, if your capital ship had more powerful, more efficient engines then the bombers they could outrun them. In space there is less keeping the dichotomy in speeds between large ships and small then in atmosphere. Just the mass relative to thrust ratios. (Trying to say the mass of the ship compared to the power of the engines in that mass.)

There is two of them!!!

They are still doing the Max Acceleration without Max Speed thing? That is just amazing. I hope they don't change their minds.

i feel the same, this is truly the most scary thing ive seen on this forum

It makes sense actually, in space there would be no friction so once acceleration occurs it would just increase exponentially and only be limited by energy input. Gathering that this is in the future I am sure we have fusion power and therefore limitless energy.

Read "The Wind" by Arthur C. Clark its a pretty cool short story relating to friction in space.

If the game wants to be scientifically correct than there will be no max speed, just max acceleration. An objects velocity in space does not decay unless affected by gravity or friction.

If shields cause some form of friction than this will change and a max speed will come into effect.

If the game wants to sacrifice these real life rules for game play and fun, than I could care less about them. Lets just say they are in a galaxy far far away (cue the rolling text) and the rules apply differently in there universe (or dimension; however you want to explain it). As long as the fictional game is fun, who cares, I’m not looking to learn anything from it

thats like saying;
any one person is made up of billions of cells, and therefore billions of dancing tutu gerbils!
not logical, in any way. but very funny (stargate atlantis lines!)

...How many are there?

Do they multiply?

What the hell is going on? Lol... Has schem met his match, who would then be himself? wait I am confused now...

I think there are 3 of them now, but they might multiply like bunnies... then we are in trouble!

This is truely frightening. Its one of three things.

My experiment gone wrong.
Schems experiment gone wrong.
or the end of the world as we know it.

So far it looks like the end of the world, so Im off to Mexico.

Well, it seems like there are 2 Schems at the moment. I do hope this doesn't become a fad of some sort.

Due to their intellectual quality (and virulent attack on anything displaying less than perfect intelligence), the real Schem's posts are pretty obvious. However, the impostor Schem from a good universe really hasn't said much so far. In fact, his posts are more about flaunting his existence in order to taunt the real Schem.

If we could bring both Schems together in a room, we would be able to tell the real one from the impostor immediately. You see, the real Schem that we know and love would have a goatee.

In a way, this poster stealing Schem's fine forum name is similar to the Church of Scientology forcing the word science into their title in an effort of self-validation.
