Antimatter and Phase Jumping

Antimatter and Phase Jumping

How does it work?

Antimatter and Phase Jumping:
Phase jumping does not cost antimatter. The act of jumping has a negative effect on antimatter that renders portions of it unuseable effectively consuming it. Thus, a ship without any antimatter reserves can still make a jump.

So far as I know, that is all the information we have available on the subject.

My take on it is that it is a defense against being unable to jump due to low AM but still preventing you from jumping around like a kangaroo all hopped up on speed.

On your way IN the effect would be pretty much the same as if it was just consumed: there is a portion of the AM that you cannot use for a period of time. The rate at which it become usable again is unknown. It could be the same as normal recharge or it could be slower or even faster for all we know. I seriously doubt that that it is permanent because that would encourage camping strategies.

On the way OUT, however, it makes a huge difference because now no matter how depleted your AM is from a battle you can still make a jump. That could be the difference between losing your entire fleet in a lost battle and making a successful retreat and live to fight another day.

I think that it will be represented as a grayed-out (or some equivalent) area at the beginning or end of your antimatter bar that recharges/become available again at a different rate than antimatter that has been used in the conventional sense.

Anyone else feel like taking a crack at reverse-engineering the whole system from 3 short sentences?

Few weeks? Damn, I really hope that is the case. Still, I think it is more likely that the August release date turns into September turns into October tuns into November and finally turns into December. Isn't that how it always goes?

Still, I would rather wait a few extra months and get a game that is stable, balanced and 100% done.

Well I was referring to the beta which (knock on wood) is supposed to come out at the end of this month. And I to really hope (knock on wood) that the release date is firm, and that it also doesn't make them rush things. I've witnessed the mystical jumping release date before, and it's not fun.

It was said before that Antimatter has something to do with the Suns of each system, so when ships are in phase space they lose antimatter because they are away from the sun.

so when ships are in phase space they lose antimatter because they are away from the sun.

doesn't explain the "freeze" problem.
also doesn't make much sense. like saying you get hungry because you're away from food, not that you haven't eaten food in days.

what freeze problem? did I miss something?

and it makes perfect sense, if you charge your cell phone, and then you leave it alone for 4-5 days and don't use it , the battery will still slowly drain, no charge last forever

no, you're example is like saying that a cellphone that you charged 3 minutes ago (for 2000 hours) will die because you drove a few miles away from the charger.

saying something drains because it's not recharging is like saying something lives because its not dead.

If you charge your cell phone for 2000 hours it will have less energy the instant you take it away from the charger, as the battery is not efficient to hold 100% of the charge over any period of time...

but you see, you're current example still deals with the time component, when you're previous explanation dealt with a space component

the two are not interchangable (unless they are on opposite sides of a black hole. which I won't regale you with now)

you aggravate me sometimes...

It has been stated by the devs that jumping no longer requires AM, that it just renders it useless for a bit after the jump.

Dont remember what thread it was in.

I might be compeletly wrong.

And lordkosc, dont try to use logical examples with Schem. Its like trying to teach me not to be arrogant and generally annoying.

logical examples work fine!
its the illogical ones you have to be careful of.

Really now, you dont have to be hypocrytical. It is really getting annoying.

Surely now, you must be joking.

True logic would deny even truth, so in the end I would rather dodge it. Wouldnt you?
and whats the fun in that?
I dont know, knowing the truth. Plus, its quite a stress reliever to annoy you by being dislogical.

Hehe, you two crack me up.

Logic is a fun exercise in itself, especially when it affords you the opportunity to flaunt your knowledge, be it theoretical physics or whatever. So, I get what you are saying Schem and would even say most of the time I am right there with you. In fact, the quality of your posts have already convinced me that you will be a worthy opponent/ally in SoaSE multiplayer.

Still, gameplay is the priority goal for the developers in this game and so sometimes logic will be stretched (or even broken). Keep that in mind Schem, sometimes focused logic will hinder a bigger picture view.

In fact, our Great Emperor seems to be suggesting that you often lack a grasp of the bigger picture. Better be careful of this one Schem, his mind is as sharp as yours, but his diplomatic skills may serve to isolate you (thinking multiplayer here). Hehe.

The thing is I think Schem takes things a little to seriously, I look at everything as though it is a game.

Everyones a winner in my head.

And yes, I do quite look forward to the day we all meat each other on the stellar plains of the great Galaxy. Naturally I will win, but I will give you all a chance to beg and grovel
Reply #45 Top
Dude, I don't really want to meat you...I don't swing that way. Also, all this talk of begging makes me nervous. Hehe

I think you meant 'meet' in your post, not 'meat'.

Hmmm, is this joke in poor taste? Bah, I'll post it anyway.

quick answer: yes.

Hehe, thanks Schem. I like that we can always count on your blunt honesty.

As for you Great Emperor, we will see just how good you are soon enough. It would be a shame to carry the title of The Great Emperor and only be an average player.

Extraordinary, is just being extra ordinary. I prefer to just be ordinary. "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet", so my name is just a name(that can be easily remembered )

your blunt honesty.

If Schem will ever be honest, then I am a japanese umbrella
