This game is completely unplayable. Everytime I try to build any ship, it says "no resources". I downloaded the latest patch. I tried about 20 different games. I haven't seen this bug yet here and the chances of this only happening to me is hard to beleive unless I must be missing a setting or somthing. Any suggestions or do I need to wait for over 100 turns (the amount of turns I give up)?

Here are some thoughts on the mini-map as possible bugs or gameplay adjustments

last game i played the lobster monster would fight and
seem to vanish and then pop up again nearbye.

I couldn't keep track of it as it keeps phasing in and out of visibility in the last game.

ok, I know this seems totaly obvious, kinda like asking if your computer is plugged in... but are you contributing any resources to military production? on your economy screen where it shows the breakdown of social, military, and research spending, is there money being put into military?

I know it's been mentioned, but the thing where other races build trade goods that I'm supposed to have a monopoly on is really starting to irk me.

One another issue, does anyone else have problem submitting to the metaverse? I submitted my first game but since then it crashes every time I try (haven't tried with the latest patch yet though).

I'm sure I've seen this mentioned before...

I dunno if I'd call this a bug, but it sure is annoying. It's annoying to give some AI power a bunch (say 10 or so) techs to go to war with someone...and then see them go back to peace 1-2 turns later. Similarly, it's annoying to give a bunch of techs/trade goods/cash to an AI power to get a peace treaty - just to have them demanding tribute and going back to war 1-2 turns later. I think the AI should respect the agreements they make a little better (for more than 1-3 turns at least). One can't expect an agreement to last forever, but having it broken almost immediately isn't good diplomacy!

I had a HARD crash. Tried to invade a planet, I hit the space bar as soon as the combat window started to
draw. I got good odds 11:2 (this was very early in the game) but sadly, the losses on both sides were listed
as 0 and my computer was *locked* - even control alt delete would no longer work. I had to power down ...

NB. this was playing a huge galaxy and I noticed quite a bit of slowdown on my system compared to the
large and smaller maps I have previously playing. Where usually things happen pretty instantaneous I may
have managed to trigger a bad problem with thread synchronisation here.

cheers, -Peter

Howdy,

Found one today. I'd call it an "honor" bug. Basically if you complete any planetary task (creating a ship, or social improvement) and then give that system to a computer controlled character, you can double click a completed item on the "Completed tasks menu" at the bottom right hand corner of the screen and the planetary menu pops up allowing me to destroy the colony, change what their producing, or deleted social improvements.

Nothing big, but one could exploit this to improve their meta scores. That is, if they're dishonorable little puss sacks deserving of a pop. :d YUM YUM

Random event - an ambasedor was having dinner with Yor and offended their leaders mistress and they decided to attack me to teach me manners, something else about I should have had more spys to avoid this.

Do Yor eat dinner?
Do Yor have 'mistresses'?

I imagine it's just a random thing, but maybe some kind of check could be added to modify the text a little if the dice land on Yor.... Love the game, keep it up.

1.02.40 -- Now seeing frequent crashes while using the diplomacy screen.

Since installing the latest update, I'm getting a lot of crashes when in the diplomacy screen. Sometimes galciv just quits and exits back to windows, and sometimes the screen freezes. During the screen freeze the mouse pointer continues to work, but the keyboard and mouse buttons no longer respond, forcing a hard reboot.

Again, don't know if this has been reported, but anyway. If you have a planet reported as being culturally unhappy and about to defect and then later they actually do defect BUT on the turn they defect social production is completed then they appear in your list of systems to then do something with, for example choose another social project. But they belong to the oposition culture! You can do anything until you actually exit that system's screen, swap to other planets in the system, and even destroy the colony!! LOL

If you put all 3 of your Income Distribution sliders to the top, they are reset 1/3 of the way up when you load a saved game.

This is a test coz I am fed up with typing out huge emails in these fora (ums?) submitting them and never seeing them again.

I'm still playing on a huge galaxy, normal difficulty.

The Arceans wiped out the I-League fairly late in the game. A few turns later, the Fundamentalists show up. Ever since their appearance, I get either the Arcean or Drengin image in place of the minor race's logo in the minor race screen.

A few turns after *that*, a new I-League formed up. Unfortunately, I can't use the minor race screen to contact them, I have to click on one of their planets and select "speak to."

For reference, this is the same game in which the resources vanished, leaving starbases with nothing to mine - and lines of constructors *still* loitering around trying to get to the now-resourceless spot. I think this actually kept the AI from mining several resources (which I've since found and exploited).

A few minor points - generally I am most content with this game so far. Well done people and thanks.

1) In some places an annoying relationship with the idea of "NEXT" and "ZERO". If I tell my kids its Christmas next month, and when next month rolls around I tell them only another zero months to go so they've got to wait for another four weeks I would expect a little trouble.

Similarly when the game tells me there is one turn to go for something to happen, it is silly for it to tell me a turn later that there are zero turns to go, and make me wait another turn.

This needs tidying up.

2) Foundry spelt wrong.

3) Only one crash to desktop in about ten games and several weeks of play. The Drengin lost that game when their last planet defected to one of the other AI players. In the same game turn I went into diplomacy and saw the drengin were still there - and assuming they would be removed after I next hit the turn button I thought I would have one last look at their stats from my spies. Immediate crash to desktop. I suppose the data tables for the drengin were wiped but the button was still trying to access them. The AI race should have had its picture taken out of diplomacy as soon as it was eliminated.

4) Distribution of stars in galaxy creation is a bit flaky - perhaps deliberately so(?). In one 5x5 galaxy my little 3x3 corner turned out after much exploration and rushing around to only have my home system of two planets with the next best system containing only a class 14 planet. An AI immediately below me had at least 4 systems with some stars having more than one planet. I was going for a research victory with sub-normal AI in a galaxy with COMMON!! habitable stars and can't remember clustering. It was an interesting game, defending my frontiers was easy, and after about 8 hours towards the end of the game I did colonize that class 14 planet.

5) Both in the game, for instance when submitting stats to the metaverse, and within Stardock Central there is an annoying lack of feelgood confirmation messages - like "Your score has been successfully recorded". There is usually no confirmation because either the process has worked as expected, or it hasn't. As a user this leaves me feeling uncomfortable.

6) During the calculations after pressing the turn button, sometimes the processing seems to stop with the little target on the turn button. In my experience so far this is because the game has found a ship which has movement points left requiring player intervention. The mechanics of resolving these stoppages in the game is a little messy and the game does not inform the player about why it has stopped. An information screen may be covering the galaxy map at this point so it is not obvious what is going on.

7) A really annoying thing with scout ships auto sweeping a sector is that they get stuck on anomalies and inform me that only surveyor ships (is that right - I only saw the error mesage about 500 times ) ships can enter anomalies. Why doesn't the stupid scout just go around the anomaly. I tend to leave one scout permanently sweeping each sector in the little galaxies I play in. I probably misunderstand the use of autosweep - I treat it like autoscout mentally.

8) Lack of context sensitive help throughout the game. I really want to right click on anything to get very detailed information - not just a two line potted summary if i'm lucky. This is particularly true in the trading screens where I simply do not understand the value of what I am trading. Especially with respect to technology. It is also pertinent in the screens where build queues are set up - I end up guessing what things are and how long they take to build.

9) A few "are you sure" type messages would be nice before, say, a colony ship merges with a star system when I erroneaously try to put it back in orbit.

10) It adds nothing to game play to do a manual binary chop during EVERY trade deal to find the highest number between 0 and 100 which my trading partner will accept. It might as well be automated.

11) I sometimes wonder if all those numbers and stats and improvements percentages are all working quite properly. No good reason for this. Just a gut feeling.

12) Some filters in the ship list are needed to remove entries, for instance, for all the scouts. Currently it just sorts I think.

13) ....and finally a real irritant for me at least, when I select a ship with a mouse click I expect it to be selected and stay selected. I do not want it to go shooting off somewhere as it finishes its game turn. I do not not expect to be automatically moved to another ship. The number of times I have sent completely the wrong ship to someplace!

Sorry - turned out to be loads of suggestions in there too.
Thanks again Brad and all for the game.
:D

I've had the scout-autosweep-anomaly problem too. I *hate* having to manually move them so they can keep running around.

I don't put scouts on autosurvey anymore, though. Once I've scouted, I just give them to any AI player for improved relations. If I need to scout again, I can always build more dirt cheap.

Problem solved, New bug found: That took care of it. I had no funding for military and didn't know you had to have it funded in order to build ships. New Bug; The battleship graphic is missing. It shows up as a void.

Running the windowed GalCiv, 1.01a.011, if the Setup\Menu_Open.bik movie is not present you cannot click on any of the opening menu buttons.

The I-League random event does nothing if there are no minor races. :)

Here's a couple I found... dunno if they've been brought up before.

First, ships that have just left orbit don't get the speed bonus from starbases in that sector. I started a thread here with more info. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=41484

Second, one of the crash to desktop bugs in the diplomacy screen has to do with how much cash the other civ has on hand. If they have under 100bc and you try to use the slider to adjust... instant crash. However, you can type in the amount and go from there and I believe even use the months slider just fine. So far, 100% reproducable.

If you have ships on autopilot, you lose movement if they reach their destination and have movement points remaining. It just goes to the next autopilot ship and so forth.

Have a game where the I-League blurb refers to them as the Kilawasians or something like that.

Uggg Alot of Messages here, Instead of being a good "citizen" and reading it all to see if my bugs are here I'll just say em:

1) If you buy two social projects in a turn, only one will show up on the Planet stats (Is it there and not listed?) But you can't build another (I did this with Fusion plant and Manufacturing Center, only got the center)

2) If you set it on imperial build list it will build EVERYTHING not already on the planet, wonders, trade goods and accomplishments. Even if another Civ already has one. Even if YOU already have them. I had 5 Manufacturing capitals and 2 Resurants of Eternity.

Jeff George: There's an option to turn that off on the menu. End Turn Skips Moves Left. Disable it and you'll have the moves left.

No multi star bases PLZZZZZ :( Also if you capture another capital and you have a capital of that kind already it should be destroyed, how can you have two manufacturing capitals lets say?

Dave Richardson:

I agree, the "1 more turn" and "Next turn" thing is annoying, and took me a little bit to figure out. Hopefully it would be easy for them to just remove "1 more turn" from the sequence.
Astax: You can have two capitals because you captured one.
