Mega Event List *Spoiler*

You know you wanna look :-)

Hello.

Since there are a lot of Posts concerning Mega Events (what are they?, is this one?, what's going on?, where am I?), I figured this would be a good place to consolidate the basic MEGA event info and share our thoughts on the new Mega Events.

So here is the MEGA event data that I have found in the Data Files. This is a SPOILER, so if you want to be surprised, go read something else.

Data has been taken from the English.str and TechTree.xml. If you happen to find more info lying around, let me know, I'll confirm it in my data files and add it in! Also if everyone seems to be having the same general experience concerning an event, I'll add that in too.

TA UPDATE:
The Twilight version of the English.str File has the same list as the DA version. No new Mega Events have been added and no old Mega Events have been removed.

Side note. Oddly, I can only find the Plague and Disease cure ID's in the Yor Techtree. I just got the game and have only played usung the Yor tree as a custom race. It could be possible that the game appends the ID's to the tree while "in game". So, If you are playing a different race and find their correspnding cures, let me know the names and prereqs and I'll make a list and add them in! Thanks in advance !!

MEGA EVENTS:

[Alliance] During a secret meeting, it was decided that the %s menace has grown too great. They have concluded that the only way to stop them is to work together both openly and covertly. The war has expanded.

[Plague] A terrible plague has swept across the galaxy affecting all civilizations. The population on planets has begun to decline rapidly. Only with a cure can each civilization save themselves. The cure is called 'plague cure' technology. We must research this technology before we are destroyed.

-To get the Cure you'll need to research Xeno Biology, Xeno Medicine, and Plauge Cure.
TA: Different Races have different Names for their cures. For Exmaple, the Yor call this "Antivirus Software"
Some ppl have noted that the AI is fairly slow to get the cure, if at all:
WWW Link
-In the 1.50X patch the AI vaule for the cure has been raised to 100, They AI ought to research it pronto.

[CultureShock] The populations of the galaxy have become enamored with the obscure culture of the %s. People everywhere are taking up the habits, dress, and philosophies of their culture. As a result, their influence upon the galaxy has become immense.

[UltimateDoom] The %s have uncovered a Precursor artifact from the Arnor. Upon being touched, their species has been greatly enhanced. Moreover, the effect continues to grow. Eventually, this race will become godlike. It is up to you to decide how this should be handled. Right now, they are weak, but eventually they will rule the universe.

-There is a normal event (in Galciv1 and DL) that essentially has the same message. The difference is that the normal event only effects only 1 ability (enhances every turn). With the mega event all of the abilities are enhanced every turn. (Courtesy of K R Y O)

[Dreadlords] Woe to all. The Dread Lords have arrived and they mean to retake this galaxy.

-Remember MOO2? Remember the Antarans? Yeah same thing.

[NoRangeLimit] An over-eager archeologist intern participating in the dig on planet %s in sector %lu-%lu uncovered a mysterious PreCursor device and started fiddling with the controls before the other archeologists could stop him. The device emitted some kind of energy beam, setting off a chain reaction that spread from planet to planet, triggering other hidden devices on each planet. At first, the beam seemed to have no result, but reports have been coming in from all over the galaxy: it seems that the energy beam has increased the efficiency of all life support systems of all ships. In effect, all ship ranges are now unlimited.

-Some ppl have noted that the AI will still research and Trade Life Support Tech's.

[Corruption] The commitee on Corruption and Graft in Government would like to report that tax revenue is down by 25%. Interestingly, trade revenue has trippled. While the cause of the decreased tax revenue is invesigated, it would behoove us to invest in more trade routes.

[Tourism] Today's people are on the go, and where they go, they spend money. Whether they're touring Precursor ruins or simply relaxing on beaches, the tourists are bringing in a lot of money. Analysts are projecting an increase in revenue from tourism up to 5 times previous amounts.

[SuperTourism] The tourism business is booming. Revenue from Tourism is up by a factor of 10X. Unfortunately, the people are growing increasingly resentful of taxes.

[Disease] A rare but virulent disease is sweeping across the galaxy. The disease leaves no visible mark on its victims, but it leaves them apathetic, greatly reducing their abilities. To cure it, we must research Xeno Medicine and then research a cure for the disease.

--To get the Cure you'll need to research Xeno Biology, Xeno Medicine, and Disease Cure
TA: Different Races have different Names for their cures. For Exmaple, the Yor call this "Firewalls"
Some ppl have noted that the AI is fairly slow to get the cure, if at all:
WWW Link
- As of the 1.50X patch, the Cure has been given an AI value of 100. The AI ought to research it.

[OrganizedCrime] Reports are coming in from all over the galaxy that factories are shutting down, banks are no longer able to function, and crops are lying untended in farm fields. This seems to be an organized effort to sabotage the great empires of the galaxy from within. Enemy agents have been discovered on all of our planets, and our sources indicate that the other major empires are having similar difficulties. Unfortunately, the agents are well-entrenched, and it will take a lot of money to extricate them from our worlds.

-This event places enemy agents in all of your worlds and all of the worlds of the other races.

[PeaceKeepers] A group of scientists on planet %s found a hidden control panel thought to be Arnorian in design. After translating the instructions on the control panel, the scientists were certain that they had discovered the means to achieve galactic peace! They activated the panel, which opened a wormhole in space, revealing giant robotic ships. Before the scientists could do anything else, the ships dispersed across the galaxy and began to attack all combat ships that are outside of the space their empire controls.

-Some ppl have noted that these things seem to not only attack ships outside of borders, but attack everything:
WWW Link
Also, there appears to be a normal Peacekeepers event with a similar message. One would assume that is smaller in scale.

[Somber] Psychologists across the galaxy are reporting that people are not half as happy as they used to be, but they can't give us any specific reasons. We could take measures to alleviate their depression by building improvements and such, but that will only be treating the symptom, not the cause.

[SubSpaceTear] The commitee on Regulating Potentially Dangerous Technology has actually presented us with hard evidence of a serious problem: sub space tears are starting to form across the galaxy, caused by high speed engine techologies. The only solution is to limit all ships to moving no faster than %lu parsecs per week. The alternative does not bear thinking about.

-A Galactic speed limit. The AI will still trade for and research engine tech that is above the "speed limit" though.

[PirateWar] Swarms of pirate ships have appeared out of nowhere, all over the galaxy! We don't know how they managed to evade our sensors, but they appear to be attacking anything in sight!

Well there you go! If you have more to add, let me know. My goal is to try to keep the info as general as possible. To be honest, I"m kinda surprised that the "PQ explosion" wasn't a Mega event. That totally destabilizes my game more than any of the mega events That I've had happen in my game.

I've noticed that the AI will continue to research life support and install it on their ships after this event.

EDIT: I thought you missed the "tons of spies in every empire one", but looks like you got it.

UndeadOmelt:
Yes I've noticed that too. Actually the AI will trade for it too, Essentially giving you free tech.

Caprion:
Got it! I hate that one as I usually never have many spies.

To be honest a lot of the events don't seem that "Mega" A Lot of them seem like temporary hurdles (Plague and organized crime come to mind). I guess the Mega part is how you respond to the Event vs. how the AI handles it

Hmmm, Temporary Hurdles   . I got one, which is not listed above. It was something like:
" A group of thieves have taken over 107 planets in the galaxy, 7 of which are ours!"

I had 19 Planets, and had just taken the Drengins best factory planet and had built about 20 Neutrality Research Centers. I was starting to get the feeling I could seriously wage a good land-grab war.
I lost my manfacturing, Tech, and Economic capitals, about 3 galactic wonders...WOW.

Ouch, Skyjack. That event hurts. Bummer dude.
To clarify my "temporary hurdles" comment, I meant that about the Mega events, especially when compared to the normal events in the game.

Your event is a normal event, believe it or not. I found it in the Event screen section of the English.str file. Here's the text from the file (The Mega events are in a separate section of the file):

[Event_NewMenance_PlayerLostPlanets] An organization known as The Jagged Knife has seized control of %ld planets owned by various civilizations, %ld of them belonging to us! The organization appears to be made up of criminals, thugs, and outcasts of the civilizations whose planets have been overtaken. We shall have to be extremely wary of this organization, as they possess or control all of the technologies and native abilities of the people they have subjugated.

That's what gets me, Some of the events, like the Jagged knife and I-leauge events (similar to the Jagged knife one you experienced - hell there appears to be a normal peackeepeers event too!), are very destabilizing all on their own. They are pretty much Mega in thier own right. In one of my recent games, I had the PQ explosion. I was playing a large galaxy with uncommon planets. Suddenly 1/3 of the galaxy is PQ 12. Not a single one of those planets were within my borders. I went from 6 planets (the largest empire at the time) to 22. The majority of my empire was now, infact, in the middle of the AI's holdings! It went from land grab to culture war in an instant.

One the plus side, Skyjack, this might acutally be in your favor. I've had the event before in a DA game and the Jagged knife is pretty much an evil minor civ. I Counter attacked quickly, and got planets back. Plus you get a chance to get some free captured tech!

" A group of thieves have taken over 107 planets in the galaxy, 7 of which are ours!"

Dang...!!! That that would both suck, and be really awesome, all at the same. Ona side note, when that event happened to me, for some reason the thieves had an ethical allignment of "good". They must have been led by Robin Hood or something, but I found it strange.

Don't get me wrong...I like it! This kind of thing makes a game GOOD, even if I lose.

I had them seize 33 planets from me a few games ago. I ****ing hate that event. I hate it so much.

Ah, the jagged Knife have only helped me in the past. I was preparing to invade a neighbour when they appeared so I just turned my attentions on them instead. Got all my planets back, and then some.

As for the organised crime one, that popped up during a brutal war in which I was barely holding my own. As soon as I got my major factory planets cleaned up though I was the only galactic power with the power to expediently build capital ships...

Maybe I'm just lucky :HOT: .

The Jagged knife and the I league sucks but there not impossible. I try to station at least one 1 troop ship on each planet. It makes taking them back much easier I usally focus on the ones with wonders and such. I pretty much play only Gigantic galaxies so the speed limit of 5 really screws those games up (and it seems to come up in every one just the time I am putting out speed 11 ships). I cant rely on JIT (just in time) builds but have to have a long tail of troops and ships following my intial fleet. I cant seem to be able to sustain such a production drive for longer than 10 to 25 turns. Its sorta sad that the ships that can handle anything the bad guys have only show up at the end of the war and arent really set up right for the next enemy.

I only play gigantic galaxies and I've never had the speed limit. You must be getting all mine. Again, it's time for the smiley: :HOT:
I hate you. Just imagaine going from speed 7 to 11 to speed 5 period. all ships have to be rediesigned. There needs to be some type of tech to research to repair the rips

Duh.
I'd love an option to just disobey the speed limit. I mean what could possibly happen. The UP giving you a speeding ticket?
I think it should be allowed...with a 1% chance per turn per 100 production-on-planet for one of your planets to get swallowed by the rips in the space-time continuum.

Scoff-law. ;-)

I second that notion. What's not to like about colourful rips in the fabric of space spreading doom and destruction? Sure, they might eat your colonies, but they could eat your rivals ones too.

I think cutting the speed limit event, should you loath it, is pretty easy with a mod. At least it should be... I can't actualy find any Mega Event XML...

Research to repair the rips or design safe drives would be good though.

or better yet take your fast fast ships to another part of the galaxy where the nasty people live and tear space up.

I have had several instances of a couple of somewhat similar events. There is a "ultradrive" that either doubles your engines base speed, or increases by only 50%. The other is ultrasensors, it increases sensor range "dramatically" usually doubling or tripling.

Yes, they do. I admit to exploiting that, too, in a game I was playing where this occurred. I on the other hand started creating "monitor class ships" with no life support on the ships at all. It gave me an edge.
Not fair. I always play with mega events on. How is that I never get any?
Theres also the Plague that takes away all abilities. The route to a cure is the same as the population killing plague

I believe you left out the one where people have less morale due to taxes. I guess its similar to the other one where your people are less happy. Or is this the same one?

Theres the economic boom one.

The one where a minor has stollen all the techs from another race and will trdae then for star systms. I have never gottn the minior to trade me them.

Emory: Ya … you know, we have time. Do you really need us to go to warp speed?

Oglethorpe: Yes, I want everyone to know. I'm fast and I will tear ass all over their galaxy, and totally trench their galaxy.

Hehe those badass plutonians :HOT:

Oh has anyone besides me ever got Peacekeepers when you have only laser and stinger techs? That sucked. all my star bases and ships went boom

Duh
Never got Peacekeepers. Got nailed by Pirates quite a few times. Oh, and it seems that in nearly every game I've got a disgruntled former worker shooting Lord Vega. Sometimes the disgruntled former worker (or perhaps it's a different one every time) shoots Lord Vega again later. Bizarre.

Never encountered the Peacekeepers neither and oh how I'd love to kick their tree-hugging asses... My style of gaming doesn't seem to trigger certain events, I only got the Pirates once and it was a blast ridding the galaxy of this scourge. I would certainly be happy if I, as a player, had more influence on which mega events to happen in my games.

What about an event that is designed like a galactic-wide invasion from a superior xenos race, which automatically has all surviving GalCiv-races including the player form an alliance against the alien threat? The invasion would start at a random edge of the galaxy, with the alien race conquering all inhabitetd planets along a predefined route (say diagonally across the galaxy).

in my gmae it said "woe to all the dread lords have arrived" and so far nothing has happened lol.
