Failed Unity

The Terrans' own strategy for unity ends up being its downfall....

DRENGIN HISTRORICAL DATABANKS ENTRY 367 Alpha: Terran Alliance.

NOTE: HIGHLY IMPOPRTANT DOCUMENT! DO NOT DELETE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANSES!

The Terran Alliance was a race known as "Humans" that dwelled on a small planet called "Earth". They were inventors of Hyperdrive, the divice that gave the Empire hegemoney over the entire galaxy. When the first HD engine was completed, it was placed on a coloney ship called the T.A.S Mayflower. But before it was sent to the nearest habitable planet in their system, Mars, a group of humans thought that the different nations would get caught up in a struggle to build better ships and to colonise planets further out in the galaxy, tempers would flare and an all-consumng war would insue. They set forward a plan to unify humanity. This was the first break in the chain... OK, I'll just post this for now, since I'm making this up as I go, I need to stop before I run out of ideas. tell me what you think so far!

alright, here goes nothing! The group called themselves The Allience For Human Unifacation. For the first step, they looked to something that divided humans for generations: language. They set up several schools all over the world, teaching English to anyone they could find. Unfortunately, this didn't bode well with the native popilations, since some of the more radical memebers of the group killed or threatened to kill any one that refused to to come to the classes. However, through expelling these radicals, (actually, it's questionable if this happened, since many "new" members' names were simply anagrams of the radicls' names) the controversey died down and, amazingly, by 2213, 87% of all humans spoke English.
(Although it was kept from the public, some people spoke the languge better than others). Next, they looked to a very sensitive topic: religion. Because they feraed that radicals in the group would inadvertanly ruin this step, they convinced several churches following a faith known as "Methodest Christianity" to send out missionaries around the United States, were they were based, and around the world to "spread the Word." Although there were many converts, many of the missionaries were killed by wildlife or natives fearing that thier way of life was under attack. This angered many people, mainly the families of the missionaries, and made some think that the A.F.H.U was group of political and religious fanatics that, in the immortal words of one human, "Cause the war they are suppodedly trying to stop, and make Earth a very boring place." Dispite this, annother to-good-to-be-true sucsess story hit thier desks: 79% of all humans were Methodest Christians. The second break was when the group's leader Allan Bradley, suggested thay cultural diversity be tackeled next. there's part 2, how did you like THAT?

This would be the most daunting phase, partly be cause of the deadline set for the launch of the Mayflower: 2225. They aggressively observed and stuidied other cultures, and adapted the culture of the "U.S" to those cultures. Predictably, this was extremly difficult, even driving some members insane, to leave thr group, or most drasticly, scuicide. Dispite these set-backs, they somehow sucsessfully submissed many of Earth's nations into thier culture. It seemed that the A.F.H.U had achieved thjier goal: uniting humanity. They did, to a certain exten0t,but that unity came at a price: monotony and boredom. The humans lost thir sence of induviduality, and were despartly searching for different cultutres to embrace. That day would come on on September 26,2225, the day the Mayflower launced to Mars, fufilling the dream of many humans: the colonazation of another world. As the humans slowly consturucted thier interplanetary empire, they encountered our sworn enimies, The Arcean Empire and Alterian Republic. Unfortunatly, we did not know of the humans, or thier allience with our enimies, until in 2231,when the three powers declared war on us. The fighting quickly reached a stalemate because both sides were using the same offensinve and defesive thechnologies: lasers and shields. Whenever one side produced a more powerful and potent laser, the other made a more advanced shield, resulting in heavy casualties on both sides: 200,000 total ships lost and 350 billion soldiers lost in failed or spoilesss invasions in the first two years alone. The four nations were ready to discus peace terms when the humans invented a new weapon technology: Mass drivers. Although the early versions of this weapon were primitive, they devestated our ships. Coupled with the advanced sheilds they were using, they obliterated star-bases and sometimes frightened entire planets or fleeets into surrender. When the Alterians and Arceans developed railgun and missile technologies of thier own, it looked that the Empire would be completely ahnialated. However, accusations of torture of Drengin prisoners of war against Alterian prison guards gave Lord Kona just enough time to develop a peace treaty. And on march 26,2240, the Treaty of Vizzard was sigined. It was a one-sided treaty that achieved peace, but also gave Lord Kona a new strategy for conquering the galaxy. After the war, Lord Kona saw that the humans were ebracing the cultural ideas of the Arceans and Alterians. Polittical, religieous, any thing that was different. In response to this Allan Bradly, repeatedly elected as Ambossodor and Chanclor, set up the Institute For Traditional Ideas. They put sactions on trade and limited tourism, wich sparked protests. The Empire started building relations with the humans and trading with them.
To keep from arousing any suspicion, we decided to construct starbases were beings could socialise instaead of broadcasting our ideals to the humans. The fall of the Terran Allience was about to begin...

The first of these starbases, construucted near the Vizzard system and called
The Emporor's Pride, was a bold move, since the system was near Arcean terrritory, but it was necsisary because Vizzard was a historic planet. It was a massive sturucture, even by today's standards. The Pride was 3,000 meters in diameter, 2,000 meters tall, and could house 170 ships in its docking bay. Visitors were few at first, mainly because of lingering hostilites toword the Empire and suspisions that we were trying to pull a coup de'tat, but we assured everyone that our intensions were good and hired beings of all species to work on the Pride, and visitation dramaticly increased. of course, if we were to submiss the humans into our culture, we had to make it attractive to them. So, just like the humans did, we studied thier culture (and the cultures they nearly destroyed) and adapted it to ours. Eventually, many humans (and a few other beings) embraced "our" culture. Next, we consturucted a second satrbase, The Valient Knight near the human colony of Sander IV, much to the dismay of many, but to the delight of others. Of course, the I.F.T.I didn't like it at all, and organised protests, picketed outside the homes of people that vivsited the starbase, and pressured senators to take action "before it was to late". When Allan Bradley heard of this, he passed a law reqiring that all starbase owners had to bay a tax of 1 billlion credits a month, hoping that we would have less money to upgrade our satrbases, but it barely put a dent in our plan. As ore and more people cam to the Knight, our influence spread throughout the planet. The events on Sander IV reached thier climax when on September 1st, 2040, the planet rebelled and joined the Empire. This sent shockwanves through out the galaxy and shocked mmany, even Lord Kona, who didn't think anything like that would happen that soon. Allan Bradley was the most shocked, and he declared war on the Empire the very next day. However, he would discover the hard way that we were expecting this, and the cictizens of Sander IV liked our culture very much... (if you think these constant s cliffhangers are annoying, why are you this far into the story?)

Although the Empire's militay wasn't as strong as the humans',our ships had some conciderable advantages, one of them being speed. Of course new engine technologies had been developed, but they were expensive, large, and dangerous. Instead of developing new technologies from the ground up, we took Hyperdrive and retooled and upgraded it. We knew the humans were using highly advanced railguns, so we countered with extremly strong armor and used lasers as our weapons, wich were our second and third advantages: superior defence and weponry. our fourth advantage, or the Terrans' first disadvantage, was an anti-war sentiment among the humans. There was some support for the war, but some (fooloishly) didn't see war as a solution and favored a traety of some sort. In countless skirmishes, we bested the humans. If we had casulaties, they were negligable. The Terrans even tried to get Sander IV back, but they were foiled by our supreme planetetary defence and highly-trained civiliain defence force. As we marched across the galaxy, conquering planets through invasion, cultural suprmacy or them surrendering out of fear, we saw the Terrans get more and more desparate, ramming thier ships into ours and using strange and terrible secret weapons, the most memeorable of wich was a large cannon that fired sound at our troops on our invasion of Artimis III. It killed 200,000 soldiers, but was destoryed by bombers who heard of the slaughter. By 2249, the Terrans had only their home planet of earth and 2 other coloneys. But thse were soon overtaken by culture, and the Terran Allinence was no more. After we conquered them, we we went after the Arceans and Alterians. They put up better resistence than the humans, but we were using all forms of weponry, and our military was strengthened through resourese gathered after the fall of the Terrans, so they fell quickly. Finnally, by 2255, the galaxy was ours. It remains so to thid day, despoite the efforts of terrorists hoping to re-create the Terran Allience, Alterian Republic, and Arcean Empire. END OF LINE.
