There won't be a boxed version of the expansion pack this year.

Weird since the Purchase page clearly has a option for Digital download + CD (with S/H costs). Ah the stupidity No box but just a plain cd sent to you. I get it now

How lame.

A single player game that requires a broadband connection to purchase? Sheesh, I'd rather have copy protection...

Guys, you can get it on CD-ROM direct from Stardock. We're just not making a retail box for it since it's not going to be at retail. Boxes cost a LOT of money to produce. It will come in a DVD slipcover sized case, however.

i like this idea it save's stardock money they can use to make further improvements on the game

Exactly

I collect PC boxes too, but if I'm forced to put it in a jewel case, I hope at least someone creates/provide some artwork printable for the slipcover section.

You can use PayPal after it's released, or pre-order it through TotalGaming.net immediately. You can probably use a check also, but will need to email [email protected] for that.

Unless I'm mistaken, PayPal also requires a credit or debit card... :-/ Not sure a check would be an option, since I live in Europe. Thank you for your reply nevertheless.

You can dl this over 56k. Might take you 2 nights, but your using 56k so you should get punished.

So all those without a credit or debit card won't be able to buy the expansion? Great...

your parents have one...
you can get a debit/credit card at any age. Just go to a bank and ask to set up an account.

nope, you can do it with just a checking account.

Not everyone who has dial-up has it by choice.

Furthermore, most companies who offer these things force you to use crap downloader programs with no resume feature.

If Stardock enables me to download a single .exe or .zip file from a regular server using the download manager of my choice, I won't complain...

That's not as simple as you might think. (no, not age-related, but anyway...)

I'll look into that. Thanks.

what did you do? Rob a few banks?
lol, no. Some banks like to make it a real pain to set up/apply for such things (believe it or not). In any case, it seems like I'll be able to use PayPal, so hopefully that'll work out.

Apologies for hijacking this thread.

I have one question with the new ship components will there be left and right style pieces for those parts that don't look right when placed on both sides. Example: S0_Structure0 only looks correct when placed on one side of a ship, if one looks at a ship with it on both sides aka like wings one side will look correct while the other side will be off by a bit. Its not a major thing but it does force me to design ships with out that piece since it looks goofy. Also will the hard points on the new jewlery pieces be identical in degrees on both sides of a ship. Way to many of the hulls are off by a few degrees and makes it hard to build ships that don't have one side slightly off from its mirror. Last but not least will this be the only expansion Stardock is planning to put out for Gal Civ II or can we all look forward to at least another major expansion if Avatar does well. After all GC2 has become the favorite game for me and MY RPG gaming group. (They all bought copies after seeing it played on my comp)

You'll need to use Stardock Central, which supports resuming file downloads.

Yarlen, is stardock interested in any Beta Testers for the expansion? Or is all that jazz lined up already? I'd be happy to provide my qualifications if you are still interested in beta testers.

I understand going to digital distribution. Looks like I will need to set up a paypal account now that I know I don't need a credit card for it.

Assumably they'll use the same method as with the game itself--open beta to preorders, with a closed select beta just prior to release covering the campaign and final polish.

How about I pay $100 for a copy and it comes in a awesome collector's box and has tech tree break outs, new features, etc.

Get off your judgmental high horse already. It happens that I desperately want DSL, but my neighborhood does not have the upgraded phone lines it requires, so I'm stuck. And no, I should NOT be punished for my phone companies lack of service.
