First Great Skin

can you remember?

Can you remember the first skin that really blew you away and got you hooked on customization?

Mine was Thredz by Dangeruss and Thredz. That skin made it impossible to have vanilla Win ever again. When I look at it now, I am amazed at what a fine piece of work it was and still is!

How about you?

Nope, didn't have 1 favorite skin.  It was the whole enchilada.  Once I saw this stuff, I was hooked.

Same here @ Thredz. He was the one. Also I got in contact with him ripping his website off for my own 1st website. From then on I knew what a "rip" was. After me apologizing for the whole mess he gave me permission to use his stuff further on. Did that for 2 years...

Ahh yes Flooter! Actually, I am making sure that I have all the great skins of the past eras having just redone my hard drive. It is so hard to remember exact names of skins. 20002 seems like a long time ago in many ways.

oops, no edit here either. Meant 2002, 2003, etc.

I wasn't here in '03, (only been here a year) but somehow came across it early on. I was struck by the WB & icons, both

and

LightBlue https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=2588&LibID=1 by Alexandrie

There were so many that I liked, but I think those two pretty much convinced me to stick around.

Yep, both Nikos,(adni18), and pixtudio belong in any proper collection. Great idea providing the links as well!

Thug-Life   Feb '99 was a Litestep theme that had me go 'wow'.....certainly memorable....and different....

I don't remember which skin I downloaded first...I know I was surfing cnet, and there was this program called windowblinds, which sounded really cool!! I think that was in 2002...I do remember one that reminded me of a Tonka truck..it was yellow and black, kind of a heavy machinery wb...I think I loved all of them, especially the holiday ones, they just did wonders for my desktop...and still do!!!

There wasn't just "one" for me.  After exploring this site for a few hours I was hooked.

I'd had many skins on before, but this one stayed on my desktop for months.

I remember now...

on my grandparents old pc I put objectbar on it to get the xp look, then I found GT2 by tiggz and loved that. but I could only have OB back then (Windows ME) and I didn't have the money for OD

I'd used a lot of styles and blinds, but it was Hellfire Link
by Hippy Link that totally turned me on and got me interested. Although I've never actually made a Windowblind, Hellfire was just so cool I had to look closer.

I've only been in the WC community a short while, so bare with me...

I was looking for something to go with litestep, and I stumbled on Avenger. This brought me to the sysmetrix skin and finally WB. Once I found WB, litestep has been on the back burner. No one really comes up with eye-popping coolness with Litestep, save for Obsidian here of late. And Litestep won't skin all the aspects of Windows.

I would have to say Avenger did it for me. Still is quite cool to use. Thanks Mike https://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin.aspx?SID=1&SkinID=3337&LibID=1

Cool, I remember my first time here at this site. like a kid in a toy store. Since the first visit It has become an addiction and all cool ways of customizing windows. The first skin that caught my eye I've downloaded just a few minutes ago due to this new laptop I have. Seti green by DavidK. It would be really cool to see some of these great skins get an update.

Far too many to mention all of them....once I'd discovered WC, I was like a kid in a candy store with a $1000 note.

CopperDeck, I think, was the first that stayed on my desktop for quite a while....after playing with Desktop Architect, those shiny orange buttons and textures really grabbed me. However, with so many talented artists here, it was and is impossible to ever remain with just one skin/theme. I return to many of them regularly, but the one that gets put up more frequently is DMN-Tweak by Jay....I love dark skins and that one is right up there for me.
