.X format questions

Hi. I have been exploring converters that export in the .x format because my models are currently in .obj format. Anyway apparently there are 3 types:
.x binary mesh
.x ASCII mesh
.x ASCII frame
One converter also offers a ton of sub oprions which I do not understand. Anyway I was wondering A) which of these are the correct format, B)What exporter plugins are you using for Maya and 3dsMax and C) If you are just exporting textures as you said previously, does that mean that you include no color information and it defaults to white? I know I said I would wait for the Mod guide (I am!I am!) but I was concearned that this info might not be in there. BTW: status of the mod guide? ETA? Thanks if you can answer!

I haven't heard about a single guide, but there is a modding forum. CaretFarmer has been reveailing things one project at a time.

I'm not a graphics man (yet) but have been delving into the xml files.

YES the DXSDK will come with the appropriate exporters for, 3ds, maya, and I believe XSI...
HOWEVER, I've used it professionaly for maya for the past two years, and lemme tell you, the DX exporter can be quite tricky... if there is a 3rd party one, I advise you to use it!
Also, at least for maya, it will export everythign in the scene, including cameras, and hidden meshes, so be sure you have a VERY clean scene when you export... NO ERRONEOUS MATERIALS!

But I gotta say, it's super cool that the DEV team chose such a widley accesable format! That way EVERYONE can mod, not just the Smaxers, or just the Mayans... Good call...
Hmm.. maybe my next demo reel will be sent to YOU guys
